That old Pete that shut down, 37:10 was made to not idle more than a few minutes. You can override them by going to the cruise control, turning it on, and either placing your foot on the fuel pedal and bringing it up to the RPM you want and hit the SET on the cruise. Or Turn on the cruise and hit the SET only and she may idle up and that willl keep the tractor going.

That 855 in the cab over binder was painted the correct color for the truck. IH painted all engines IH red, didn’t matter if it was Cat, Cummins, or Detroit. Up until 84 I believe they were painted red at the factory.

I started doing heavy haul 35+ years ago ! Mostly off highway in south west Alberta . Started with 5x4, 6 x4, 9x 4, 13X4, 18 x2 ! Recently bought a truck with an Allison with a 2spd aux and by far is the best set up I have ever had for heavy off-road use ! So easy on drive line and and diffs ! And live hydraulics for winch work because it runs off the torque converter. And for slippery conditions it’s amazing ! It does take a lot of driver input to make it work properly though ! Just my humble opinion! Thanks for your videos

Hey buddy, the 855 in that international 9600 IS the right color. Back in the early days International painted every engine red. Didn't matter Cat, Cummins, it got painted red from the factory.

Mark, for you general fund of knowledge: Cummins between 1946 and 1960 painted there engines Black, dark gray or yellow. Yellow for the Cummins in Macks. Tan and Red started in 1962. 1977 Transtar brand new had a red 290 cummins. Also CAT engines in Peterbilts were painted white in the 1970's. That engine in the 9370 cabover IH has the correct color paint. When the Cummins NTC 444 came out Cummins painted it black. Not to be confused with the KT's 450 and 600 which were tan. Staying with Pete and white CAT Engines, Pete eventual quit painting the CAT Motors white because CAT was painting all of there Marine spec motors white. To add insult to injury, Detroit painted many of the Silver 92's, the D-DEC motors yellow.

A 9370 international is a conventional hood truck with the stacked headlights. The C/O is more than likely a 9600 or 9670

The Red Cummins engine in the corn binder or old Transtar is what they did in all international trucks even there gas engines are red . I’m a retired driver myself since I was 11 years old l drove trucks my dad had a construction company but when I left the family business in 1974 to 2017 I worked hauling concrete products 15 years till they closed and I then worked for Trimac as a fuel hauler. I just do a little bit of part time work now that’s all for now

I was a truck mechanic in the 80s, Cummins engines that were put in International trucks were always painted Red, it was done at the factory so that engine in the Cab over came red and it's correct!

I've got a Green APU on my HX, it''s a great unit. Easy to maintenance, plenty reliable and is self contained with the power unit outside and hvac equipment in the bunk under the bed. No ugly condenser hanging on the back of the bunk. The only downside is that they are louder outside than other units
@michaelhertwig45286 ай бұрын
Good show, Mark. I agree about no automatics, no plastic trucks, and I add no one-piece windshield trucks. By the way, that black International cabover, I drove the same model for a local fruit hauler around 1980, or so. It was pretty well a fairly new truck. One day, I was driving through Salt Lake City, and there was a little bump in the ashphalt on the interstate, and the whole truck quit running. I managed to use the momentum to steer it up an off-ramp and into a truck stop. I checked everything, and could not understand why there was no power at all on the truck. So I got a mechanic, and he spent a couple of hours going through the electrical. Finally he found it. Somewhere, on the right side, close to the passenger seat, under the dashboard, there was one electrical connector which had come loose, and it killed the power on the whole truck. Shut it down cold. Quite a design flaw, in my opinion. The mechanic could not believe that they built such a micky mouse setup. Imagine if that had happened on some steep downhill.

The reason why that truck only had chrome buttons in certain spots is probably because those are the only buttons that the coating fell off of revealing the metal under the coating. The front air ride on the 389 is probably factory since it became a factory option on later 389 trucks.

ok there ive worked and my trucks still do A LOT of oilfield and offroad The big advantage of the allison automatic is the fact if you get on the governor you can seamlessly upshift it to get a run at things and then downshift it just as well when it bogs . If you have done this work with a stick you have to stay in the gear your in till your out of the muck you try to shift or touch the clutch its game over your stuck not a thing to do with real drivers or trucks .
