The Following Video is a continuation of my series on Classical German Philosophy, German Romanticism, German Idealism, & Jewish Philosophy.
For this video, I invited Dr. Joshua Wretzel who is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Pennsylvania State University.
Dr. Wretzel helps navigates our viewers through the complex life and thought of the German Philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (170-1831).
Our discussion begins with the question "why" ... we contemporary students, and scholars should return to the thinking of G. W. F. Hegel. Our main discussion revolves around Hegel's 1807 Phenomenology of Spirit, Science of Logic (1812) and Hegel's Encyclopedia of the Philosophical Science. (1817).
Dr. Josh Wretzel is Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the Pennsylvania State University. He has received fellowships from the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung and the Max Kade German-American Research Institute, which funded stays at the Ruprecht-Karls Universität Heidelberg and Universität Leipzig, respectively. Dr. Wretzel’s work on the German philosophical tradition is published in journals such as the European Journal of Philosophy, Hegel Bulletin, International Journal of Philosophical Studies, and Continental Philosophy Review. Dr. Wretzel is also co editor of Hegel’s Encyclopedia of the Philosophical Sciences: A Critical Guide (Cambridge) and Hegel’s Encyclopedic System (Routledge). Dr. Wretzel is currently coeditor of the Cambridge Elements series on the philosophy of G. W. F. Hegel.

Still don’t get why Hegel is relevant. Monism? So what!? WHY is that a big deal?
