I've added all your A10C related on the range tutorials to my personal playlist. They are really nice to have around when getting stuck on this and that. o7

I especially liked this one, since carrying a pod of wp is in 'My' standard loadout. Not to mention that it's a very useful tool for carrying out FAC(A) roles!

Great video, and series. Excellent reference set for this study sim. Heard some jets in the background, I guess you are close to an airbase ?? Dident sound like A10s

Gerry Abbott Thanks a lot Gerry, I really like your stuff as well! Yeah, those are F-16s. I thought it would be quiet living off base but I picked a house about two miles out right in line with the runway. It is a daily airshow but I don't mind.

Why would you need this if it's heading towards your steer point anyways. It sows where your steerpoint is on the hud anyways. Love the video but idk why this weapon was made. I suppose the advantages you stated were worth thought but I don't think that taking up a spot on you wing is worth it for that pod. BTW you should do a video on how ot release a maverick without getting a lock. Great videos, keep them coming :)

Well, you actually make a good point. As technology gets better and better (ir pointers, helmet mounted displays, datalinks, etc) and it gets easier to pass on target locations using "gadgets", marking targets visually on the ground will become obsolete. It is still a valid technique especially if you are acting as a forward air controller marking targets for aircraft who might not have the same avionics set-up, but its days are numbered.

It's not so much for marking targets for yourself, but for other aircraft or a JTAC. Many strike aircraft do not use the same datalink systems as an A-10C, so passing a SPI may not be the fastest or even possible way to get other aircraft's eyes on target. A single WP augmented with a talk on is usually more effective than talking on solely with a tgp or visual references alone. Better yet, two WP rockets with the distance between the two as a unit of measure....then moving from one of the two marks X units of measure NE, S or whatever direction is excellent. Judging distance with a TGP alone is often tricky. Have you ever had a JTAC mark with WP in DCS and he says "from the mark, NW 500 meters" and you have a yardstick in the TGP but it's still difficult to find the target. Whereas an identifiable unit of measure is much more effective. This is one of the many reasons why A-10s are better suited for CAS than fighters, UAVs and bombers. The TGP has revolutionized CAS but It's not easy to scan large swaths of area with a TGP. And what better aircraft to fly low and potentially take some fire than a survivable A-10.
