We are grateful to hear this vision for American Railroads and particularly Norfolk Southern. It is important to learn lessons from mishaps, after all nobody wants mishaps in the first place, but even the smallest detail into how these things happen just be noted and learned from. It is obvious that the president and CEO of Norfolk Southern is aware of this and this can only be good for those that work with the company and those who have, in the past been effected by mishaps. It is good to go forward with a safe and successful railway company.

Alan you need to listen to your conductor and the engineer and keep chiming on the rail fans., the most important thing to listen to is the mantance away team., the managers are a bunch of yes men., safe rails and happy employees means more trains, on time,. And delivery safe., means happy customer, means more shipments. And at the end of they day everybody’s happy and making money. Stop listening to middle management listen to the little guy., and the costumers. Thank you

With all due respect, stop hiring college grads with NO practical railroading experience into management positions. They do not understand us nor what we do but are supposed to somehow be our superiors. They do not make good leaders. Also, I can’t agree that any one of your sane employees would ever tell you we are a safe railroad. You can’t hire conductors, train them for 2 months or less, and expect them to know Adam from Eve or be able to work safely on territory they barely know. In my own personal experience, these new hires are petrified to be thrown to the wolves in such a short time. Develop a better (longer) more thorough training program for your conductor trainees and promote more from within. A better relationship can be forged between employees and management when there is someone with job competency at the helm.
