Rich, I believe that the fish that you said was a pollack was a coalfish. Pollack has a curved lateral line and coalfish a straight one. We catch lots of them from our beaches here on Anglesey North Wales. Great videos, I even followed your steps when I was in Nassau during the summer and had similar results as you. Thanks for the content, tightlines, Ceirion.

Hopefully just a little change in the air. When you want to make an extra long cast try this. Long casting is a little math and some easy physics. Eyes up at 45 degrees. If you look at the water when you cast your trajectory is around 25-30 degrees which is well short of the optimum angle. Next is lead with your hips like a good golf drive or a good baseball bat swing. This will cause you to change your feet placement. Just experiment to find the comfortable placement of your feet so by turning your hips and then starting to follow with your shoulders and hands. Imagine the extra energy you get by adding your hips to the cast instead of your cast starting with your shoulders. Easy Physics. I call it HHH. Head up at 45 degrees, hips turn bringing the shoulders and hands.

Nice to see some fishing in my neck of the woods! I am in Ipswich just across the bay from Rockport. Were you fishing Halibut Point? The weather has been horrible and rainy the last few days. May head out tonight or tomorrow and cast a few. Where did you end up eating? Essex has some good seafood spots... Woodman's "eat in the rough" or across the street Shea's for a more refined eating experience... or CK Pearl. Anyway... hope you enjoyed the area!

I have replaced my trebles on any of my casting plugs with single hooks for three reasons one I felt like I was losing fish because they were banging the plugs and hooks into rocks n wood etc and therefore coming off two no danger of hooking myself with a shaking fish and last its so much better for fish mortality. I may miss a couple hits but catch everything I get a hook in. That small Pollock looked like a juvenile Cobia

You should trailer your boat up to AC and take a trip with me. I've been running my 17ft skiff 40 to 50 plus miles offshore. And been slaying. From yellowfin to mako to mahi to wahoo. And I'm only using like 25 gallons of fuel 😂. People think I'm nuts but I think spending 2 grand in gas is nuts. This is recovery and living
@FishAholicTV Жыл бұрын
Hahaha that would be cool! I guess you bring an extra few tanks of fuel. I was thinking of bringing a bladder and making a run to the Bahamas from florida. I have a 75 gallon tank.
@mulletoutdooradventures6286 Жыл бұрын
@@FishAholicTV my main is 12gal then I carry 3 5 gallon cans. On Labor Day I went out to some lumps that are about 4 to 15 miles past the 28 mile wreck and had a wahoo that dwarfed the one in my profile. I got it to the boat after it tore off 300 yards of line and after my 2nd wrap on the leader(mono) it bit through. I cried 😂. How far is the Bahamas? I did that run from Sailfish Marina back in the 90s on a boat I worked that wintered down there. I wasn't exactly sober at the time. I'm planning on trailering down there over Thanksgiving

It there a reason you don't use a loop knot to tie on plugs ?

love the vids!!! silly question but considering there are times you catch bluefish & striped bass in the same waters...in your humble opinion which species of equal would you say puts up more of a battle???

Bluefish probably pound for pound put up a harder fight. If they got as big as Striped Bass normally. We would need some serious tackle to catch them. Like imagine a 50lb bluefish. It would be like catching an Amberjack.

So, if you're concerned about hooking yourself and release mortality, why not remove one of the two trebles entirely. You'll do less harm to the fish that you're going to release, and you won't have that second treble swinging around to hook you.
@FishAholicTV Жыл бұрын
I’ve tried it and you lose a lot more fish. When filming I’m also trying to have a higher hook up ratio so I can catch the fish to show. But I like to crush the barbs to make it easier to unhook and release. I’ve been doing this technique since I was very young since I was like 5 probably. That’s what my dad taught me and it works.

@@FishAholicTV i get it man, you're covering a lot of ground and you're from a different area. no worries. basically that town doubled in population since the 90's. rich people bought up all of the waterfront and built huge homes. there's very little waterfront that hasn't been developed and it pushed out a lot of locals. very little parking / open waterfront, that kind of thing.
