Hi, I enjoyed the video. I also think it was great that you show your support for Bushlore. It is tragic that such companies must now fight for survival. I am also involved in the tourism sector [tour guide] and we hear real horror stories every day. Also remember, the success of your channel does not depend on the car you drive, but the manner you present yourself and your subject. You always portray passion in your presentations and when you do something with passion, you will be successful. You do not have to please everybody, you are not ice cream. Enjoy your journey.

I've got a 2.4 Fortuner and would recommend that if you get the 2.4, get a performance chip installed. When loaded and with 32 inch tyres I always wish that I had that extra power to make cruising and dunes that little bit easier. You'll get the same or a little bit more power than the 2.8 and save a lot of money. The chip doesn't void the warranty as long as you're careful, and it's a Toyota, so you won't have to worry about it breaking anyway.

I will definitely buy a hilux for my next build aswell especially because I can use it as a daily. The Patrol is just to thirsty. December we had a big family trip and also rented a 2.4 double cab. But manual 4x4. Was a pleasure to drive, especially on the gravel roads. And that is from a Patrol on coil springs driver. It also had milage that was about 100 000km. I could feel a vibration when braking hard and one thing that did frustrate me quite a bit was its 4x4 being a button. It does not engage on request. It might be the bakkie we had been abused but I later figured out that if you switch it off and turn the button then turn the key to the On position I could hear the clicking of gears and it went in sometimes. Same with the diff lock. Test that before you buy a second hand one. There is nothing worse that getting to sand or any obstacle and you cannot get 4x4 to work. Other than that the power mode button is really fun and it is a great bakkie. But the 4x4 on a button was not Toyotas brightest moment of thought.

Honestly man a Hilux is like my dream vehicle.. But be careful of approach angles. I've heard from many people that a Hilux is great once you shorten the cab of the Bakkie so that you don't have all that ass sticking out for difficult terrain LOL. And give it some extra lift (if the guys at the rental place didn't do that already) so that you don't get stuck on a hill due to the longer wheel base.. Then you've got yourself the perfect vehicle! I myself am a Manual Boet.. But after hearing and seeing videos on how much Automatic Trabsmissions have improved over the years, especially for 4x4's.. I'm thinking my next car (Hopefully the Hilux) will be an Auto. Currently I've just purchased a Dacia Duster cause it's cheap as HELL for a 4x4 but it does lack Diff-Lockers and Low range.. But maybe I could purchase some kits for it in the future and rough it up a little more. But the great thing about it, other than the price, is the fuel consumption and how comfy it is to drive on the road. I'll only pick it up from the showroom tomorrow morning. CAN'T WAIT!! :D Lastly.. I just discovered your channel and I have to say.. I really enjoyed every single video.. Especially the one where you got stuck in that pan in Bots! haha that Low range drag race x'D Awesome content keep it up Adrian! Same name as my girlfriends brother haha and they're from Germany

So I spoke to you a few weeks back and biting the bullet on starting a KZbin channel. What I want to know is how did you go about getting sponsors and how long did it take till any sponsor would talk with you? How many followers until you started seeing a difference? Lastly what other forms of revenue do you have via KZbin? Thanks
@RoamOverlanding4 жыл бұрын
Hey bud, thats awesome! Dont expect much income from KZbin itself. It also took me months to just get to the point of evening being able to earn a cent. Sponsors is a tricky situation, I was building relationships with them 2 years before I started KZbin, even then its really difficult to get people on board, even now. You constantly need to be proving your worth and value to them. Now I make most of my income from Patreon, where donate towards each video I make. It generates much more money that youtube, and means you dont have to chase getting massive views, and can actually craft more meaningful content for a smaller group of people. Which is both more financially and spiritually rewarding.

@RoamOverlanding4 жыл бұрын
So i did actually ask about it! And Cooper don’t even give them the warranty! In peak season they can spend a million rand a month of tires alone for all the vehicles across SA, Namibia and Botswana. Recalls mean almost nothing in a vehicle comparison. Some vehicles have a minor production problem - this is good because the manufacturer usually sorts ot out better than before. Some manufacturers are really monitoring what's happening with their vehicles in the field and have recalls simply to ensure longevity. A Ford Transit van in the UK many years ago in the UK had a recall because there was a dud batch of plasters in the first aid kits. Really?

@Roam Overlanding I hate to see the Jimny go but I understand the Jimny is too small of a vehicle to go on long distance trips as weight and space become more of an issue. Overlanding is your passion and you need a bigger rig to be able to comfortably achieve those goals. I'm assuming you need to sell up to fund the new project? As someone who owns a large offroader trust me with this, having this vehicle as your only vehicle is a HUGE inconvenience. From just general A to B transport, Parking, Poor fuel mileage, and day to day life "especially if you live in a city" having to ONLY use a large offroader is horrendous. I'm personally buying a Jimny to solve all these issues and I have been waiting for ages to even have chance to buy one. If you can afford to have 2 vehicles and can fund the new project without having to sell a rare, lovable and channel favorite vehicle then I personally say do it. Leave the Jimny be a great get around car with good fuel mileage and use it for the short overlanding/camping trips.

Excellent for farm work etc. Great engines but The 2.5 is sluggish so get the 3.0 d4d. They were also used in the fortuner and prado. 2.5 can be chipped and intercooler fitted. But rather go 3liter d4d 2016 hilux came with the new engine gd6( 1gr fe) most people bought the 2.4 (400nm) because the 2.8 was 100k more expensive and you only got 20nm more. 420nm, the auto 2.8 had 450nm. The srx 2.4 varient came with wide body so even more people chose this over the more expensive raider. So the best buy was a 2.4 srx. If you are looking at buying hilux i would say a 2016 2.4 srx. That 20nm extra on the 2.8 doesnt justify the buy. 450 auto will make a difference but they are expensive. The new fortuner hilux coming next year will have 500nm same engine just a new map. My opinion you cant go wrong with a 2016 2.4 srx. The sr is a narrow body i believe so not that one. So srx is what you want or a raider if price is good. If you want older. Then go with a 3l d4d not the 2.5 d4d. If you buy a d4d tell the owner to not start the vehicle when coming for inspection,you want to cold start it yourself. That way you can easily tell if the injectors are shot because it will smoke and the injectors will be very noizy. Sneaky sellers idle their balkies warm to hide this,this is a pro tio for you to watch out for.D4d injectors is r21k for al 4 new. Hope this info helps you.

@@RoamOverlanding nice,i basically predicted it lol cant go wrong with a hilux. And that auto is defnitely better than manual. My brother went from d4d manuals to the new fortuner 2.8 auto. And he was a manual oke,now he wil only buy auto. The great thing about a toyota is that it keeps value. Negotiate that price with bushlore,dont pay market value,those vehicles worked hard and was part of a fleet. Install a 50mm lift kit. I suspect it has it already. You should install a racor secondary filter. You buy them from turboformance. Install after the oem filter. They have a bracket included with the kit for the hilux.The oem is 10 micron i think, and the racor is 1micron. So the oem filters first then the racor filters. You get a 10 micron that they sell to put first before the oem but its pointles to have 2 filters that filter at 10+micron. Thats why you put the racor after the oem to filter down to 1 micron. The racor cartridge lasts much longer that way.. So go for 1micron kit. Racor kit is r3000 i think with a filter and bracket.. The filter replacement is r350 thereafter. I suspect pricing have gone up.

Get the 2.4 and it will leave you wanting for more down the line. Don’t settle for less than the 2.8. You’ll thank yourself later.

Try a Nissan NP300 2.5, great torque and... In narrow spaces it's a little more maneuverable than the Hilux, I mean both are great truck but the Nissan has those advantages.

customers treat rent vehicles like trash, driving the heck out of them, cause they don't own them, would never buy a rental no matter how good it's serviced

You can see the latest video where I picked up the vehicle. I am quite happy with its condition, and its currently getting some body work done at the panelbeaters. But I must say I got a great price for it.

No man, get something else. This channel got me hooked because you took the proverbial under dog and went with it, now your just gonna be another typical offroad channel which there are way too many of already....go for another underdog, heck try a subaru, mahindra, xtrail through Namib desert.... dont conform. 😣

Hey buddy, it only it was that simple :P You have to remember that this is my business, my livelihood, I have to make the best decision for my carrier, at the moment this is it, and it will change in the future to something else. Whats wrong with me learning about why this vehicle is so popular? What if I come out the other end, going " I dont get it". This build is not going to be purely about a passion project like the Jimny, but it is still going to be damn epic, and loads of fun. If you want a bit more perspective on the reasons I am going this route, I have a couple livestreams covering the topic indepth. If you really appreciate the channel and what I do, you might find it interesting.
