Hi CJ, my guess is that the braided cable is to shield the tonearm wires from electrical noise. That is why it was soldered to the ground pad on the board. It is standard to ground only one end of a noise shield. Also, if this is the case it makes sense that the original wires were inside the braid. Just thought I'd offer my 2 cents. BTW, it's great you offer these repair videos to the community. Thanks!

no problem thanks for you input i figured it was some type of ground .. the 1200's don't have that so it threw me off a bit ..

the braid is a shield for electrical noise, a powered driver would have threaded the hole as the screw goes in. "self tapping screws", quite common with aluminum chassis'

Hi, thanks for the video. I bought a plx1000 from someone (mint condition) but when they posted it they didn’t remove the platter or pack it properly so it came loose and smashed the lid but it must have been upside down because the tone arm is bent right down to the unit... The tone arm replacement seems about $400 if you can even get it. Wondering if I can bend it back into shape?! Thoughts?

Did you try to bend it back into place?

@@toru_dj_uk oddly I never considered this option, might just try it. Tonearm bends down just like yours, this was a common issue when the TT was first released. Got nothing to lose by trying, cheers.

Hey, just the exact video I was looking for. Would you mind me asking how much it costs for a tonearm replacement?

it was a while ago but i think it was about $335.00... i believe i ordered it from instrumentalparts.com or PACparts.com . i had to call them and have them special order it for me ... PART NUMBER IS 705-PNTTN-1625

CJ Scratch Torres thanks man! I had a pair of used plx-1000s shipped to me and I’m just noticing now how the tonearm bends down a bit. So I’m not sure if I should just buy another used one because I found one for under $300 or if I should just buy a tonearm.

Hey CJ Do you think the internal ground mod would work on this plx 1000 the same way it works on a technics 1200?

@@CJScratch And yes, the video helped and gave me the guts to just do it. I probably pulled a bit too hard the wires out of the thick safety wire, but it's not going to be a problem.
@bvrulez2 жыл бұрын
@@CJScratch It's great you did the video. I just realized that I did even more than you. I disassembled the tonearm itself. Then I re-bent the bent part into its shape and re-assembled the tonearm. I did it twice already because it sounds okay when playing vinyl, but when moving the tonearm around there happens to be sounds. A bit like plugging a jack in and out. I think I might have broken one of the small wires inside. I mean I know for a fact that I broke some of the insulation, but I fixed it with tape. I can't really understand where the noise is coming from. Guess I have to disassemle it again... And I might just replace the wires. The tricky part is to figure out where they are actually going through the hole in the gambit.

Has anyone tried replacing the Pioneer tonearm with an oem part? Or a partial piece of the entire assembly? $400+ is a lot of money, at least for me.
@upnhere85133 жыл бұрын
huh the gold part is $335 though, which one would assume is the exact same, just gold. Then there's another site selling the PLX500 tonearm for just $200, no idea if its the same. Anyone know?

According to Jay from the JustTechnics channel, the PLX-1000 shares the tonearm design with other Hanpin OEMs like the Reloop RP-7000 Mk2 whose replacement arm can be bought for around 180 bucks.
