You can tell Paul really dug deep with this one, as he wasn't going to give just any song to his idols. Paul crafted this to be the perfect Everly Brothers song.
@mikestevenson576Ай бұрын
Agree totally. This is better than 80% of the songs he wrote for himself, imo. Don't get me wrong, that other 20% was insane and legendary. But this was a hell of a gem to give away.
@paulsaret4 жыл бұрын
Paul's not just a genius for coming up with this superb little song, but to give it up to one of your musical idols, the Everlys, to record speaks a lot about his big heart.
@idont24503 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I have read comments stating he should have kept the song for himself. I disagree due to my belief he was able to use this as a homage to the huge influence the Everly brothers had on him as a teenager. I truly believe he learned a lot about harmony in songs from them. I like his version better due to the time he takes to sing and play out on the melody.

little song does not do it justice ,he loved the Everly's and doubt if would present them with anything but his best and did and it revitalised their career

I love that Paul wrote this song specifically for the Everly Brothers. They do a cracking job on the song and it sort of brings things full circle that they’re singing one of Paul’s songs. The Everlys had such an influence on so many of the “British Invasion” artists. Lennon-McCartney, Graham Nash, many more. The Everlys laid the groundwork for much of the great music of the 1960s.

Just learned of Don Everly’s passing today and had to revisit this song. Paul’s melody left lots of room for those gorgeous Everly harmonies. A gift that extended their recording career and a gift to all who listen. He even sounds a bit like Don on the Demo. Well done!

It was in my recommends. The song title was mentioned a lot in the obits to Don I had read. Great to hear this,poignant with Linda on harmony. I'm listening to a lot of Paul solo/with Wings. His songs always surprise you,like on this one, there's two middle eights one after the other imo. And is he going into a ska/reggae feel a little? It's not obviously country but clearly Everlys.

Two and a half minutes of epic genius. He makes it seem as breezy and simple like he just came up with it on the spot. You don't even perceive the talent or the work behind it. As beloved and celebrated as Paul is, he still doesn't get his due as an artist. He's a rare bird. I wonder what Phil and Don felt when they first heard this song that was written for them? It couldn't be more perfect.

This is a demo only. Paul did not perform on this song for their album. The demo has a quicker pace than their version and the harmonies at the end of the song are different as well. I actually prefer Paul’s version better with the quicker pace and feel his harmonies at the end of the song were better than the Everlys.

It sounds like Paul double-tracked his voice to show the Everly Brothers what the song would sound like with two people singing it. Buddy Holly did the same thing with the demos of the two songs he wrote for the Everly Brothers in 1958, "Love's Made a Fool of You" and "Wishing."

I’d love to know what Paul did to get the vicals sound on this demo, it's definitely more than just his voice doubled. Sometimes I swear I can hear other voices in there; seems Paul’s done some beatles-style tricks with a multitrack recorder and mixed something really special for “a demo”, seems a labour of love for Phil and Don.

It suited Everly Brothers. However, I do wish McCartney had kept great songs like this for himself. It only got to 41 in the UK charts by the Everly Brothers. This and the other leftovers from Press to Play, you can make up a masterpiece of an album of Macca originals in that time. Yet we have Press to Play that is often criticised
