I've owned an Aquascaphe for the last couple of years, and my my favorite detail about this watch is the depth of the lume on the bezel and dial. When in the dark, having lume at different layers of the watch makes it look like you're looking at it under water. This character is largely enhanced by the domed crystal. Great artistic touch!

Excellent review, and subbed. Glad to see someone finally reviewing the black & silver model. I have the same model and to anyone thinking about getting it, it's even nicer in the flesh than in pictures/videos. I like all the models but the black and silver is the most overlooked and underrated IMO; it's sporty, classy yet has an understated boldness, and adaptable to any situation or outfit. Forget the faux antique lume on the other models - it's to appeal to people's desire for nostalgia. I'm not knocking it as I love the blue and gilt and almost went for it, but the reality is none of the original owners of these types of watches were buying something with faux patina'd lume. They'd have been buying watches that looked brand new; the white back then was bright white, not artificially aged cream. The black and silver version is truer to the original watches in this style when they were released, and it will of course age naturally as the years go. It's a beautiful watch and this model is perfect for those of us who like a modern look with many nods to a classic aesthetic which doesn't cross into gimmick or costume territory. I've also found this version looks unbelievably good on a huge array of Nato straps - due to the fact it's black and white it works with anything you can throw at it and each strap makes the watch take on a totally different look. Great watch and highly recommend it.

I remember seeing these for first time, was actually a sneak peak from the brand owner under his cuff, at the first Wind-Up in SF.. my god, that was 2018?! Anyways... One of my good friends and fellow watch enthusiast was lucky to have his big bro buy 2 of these, one in the blue Gilt and another in the version you have here gift him one of them. Whichever his bro preferred to keep. My friend ended up getting the blue Gilt version. He still owns it to this very day. I eventually got my first Aquascaphe a few months ago.. I decided to go with the bronze with blue dial. I like the limited edition Carl Brashear Oris 65 in bronze, the first version and the Tudor BB Bronze (witj blue dial) watches. The Baltic in bronze with blue Gilt dial sort of meshes both designs and way more affordable. Great watch(es) and I still think pretty good value microbrand watch(es). I did find the included tropic rubber strap nice quality. But, perhaps a little stiffer than some others I've had before. The one I believe that came with my Helson Sharkmaster is better.

Very nice watch! I love that beads-of-rice bracelet. I appreciate your low-light transitions. I find that with my SARB035, there’s a point in the evening where it’s really hard to read; after it gets a bit darker but before the lume kicks in! White hands on a dark face usually give good contrast in this situation!

Thanks for posting this. All the other reviews I see are years old. One thing I notice is that they made a change to the Beads of Rice bracelet. All the older reviews show this bracelet with a friction clasp, which IMO is a is a very poor choice for a diver watch. I almost didn’t buy it until I saw that the newer version of this bracelet has a push button clasp. Checked the website and do not see any bracelet with a friction clasp so I’m guessing they realized that was a bad idea and corrected it. Just ordered the Blue/Gilt version. I’m really more of a pilot and field watch kinda guy.. in fact, this is the only diver I’ve ever liked enough to buy. Excited to get it in my wrist and go jump in the ocean!

I bought mine in Dec or Jan 21-22 and can confirm they have the new clasp. They sent it with the old one, I contacted them about this, then they sent the new clasp with a leather strap as well.

I was close to choosing the White dial but it didn't have the signature sandwich cutouts and the blue, although very nice, I'm not a fan of the patina lume.

The Baltic website does say they adjust the movement themselves, but I bet they mean that they regulate it themselves. Possibly, something has been lost in translation if the website blurb was originally in French. If they had truly adjusted the movement then they would go on to say the number of positions in which it had been adjusted. Adjustment is difficult and delicate surgery on the movement. Regulation, on the other hand, is a simple operation which (unbelievably) many microbrands don't do - they just take the factory movement and stick it in the watch case. So regulation is very welcome but I'm sceptical about this watch having been adjusted by Baltic.

I have the classic Blue Gilt and it sees amongst the most wrist time in my collection (got it Christmas 2020). I just love the sandwich dial and the overall execution. I was back and forth between the Blue Gilt and the Back & White. Ultimately, I eft it up to my wife as she got it for me as a gift. The amazing thing about the Blue Gilt is that the face changes colors depending on the light. Never gets old. This video makes me want to go buy the black version too! Ha, ha. That textured dial is amazing and no question, the lume is better on the white hands (vs beige hands).

Don't normally comment, but your use of light with the lume is SUPER unappreciated for sure. I'm a lume lover and love seeing crazy bright lumes, but you can't do anything about that. What you cant do is the light transitions you did, giving this watch a realistic view of the watch for prospective buyers and that's what counts. I wish more reviewers would do this.

I've had a couple baltics, they are nice entry level pieces, and the bezel action is fantastic. Both crowns on mine were pretty loose/wobbly which was a turnoff. And they wear significantly bigger than the 39mm

Rolex are adding AR coating to the underside of all their watches....finally. They are even advertising that on their website now. No AR coating on the underside of this piece is a complete dealbreaker for me. Edit: Another website says "It’s also fitted with a domed sapphire crystal that has an anti-reflective coating on its underside". Domed crystals reflect a lot of light, even with AR coatings, as they reflect a lot more of the light sources due to the curvature of the crystal.

I realy like the vintage look and that oval bead of rice band is reminiscent of the Rolex USA JB Champion made band from the 1960's - 70's. Not sure the quick release spring bars were needed as it does have case holes.
