The narrator, not mentioned here, is Philip Franks, Sgt. Craddock of Heartbeat, 80 episodes...Charley in The Darling Buds of May . Impeccable diction, clear as a bell, an asset to any voice-over documentary..... ...a little C-130 incident: in the late 60's, we were flying into RAF Akrotiri. Several Lightning aircraft came out to greet us, flying alongside for a while. With a flourish, they lit their afterburners and zoomed off; simultaneously, all cockpit window panes of the C-130 crazed over from the percussion waves and became opaque. We landed virtually blind. It took two weeks to repair.You can imagine the conversation between the C-130 pilots and the Lightning pilots!, who took the view of the ancient RAF adage , ' If you can't take a joke, why did you join up.'!
