On30 Trains in the Backyard - Updated Again

These are some of my On30 trains on a small module the in the backyard. I started videoing a Bachmann 4-4-0 that I was selling on Ebay, but decided to video some other locos. Man, the temps were high that day. Maybe I'll do some better versions in the Fall when it's not so hot.
Most of the equipment is On30 trains from Bachmann, although there are a few freight cars from Chivers, and a bunch of parts from Mount Blue Model Co and Wiseman Model Service. There ia also a 2-8-0 from Broadway Limited, but it has a Bachmann Tender and a Banta cab.
This is an updated version, as I test video compression, trying to get the best quality video.

That is a 2-4-0 that started as a Bachmann Forney 2-4-4. I liked the Forney, but it didn't operate well on tight curves. So I whacked off the coal bunker and added a tender from Wiseman Model Works, and a wood cab from Mount Blue Model Co. I was going to paint the cab, but realized that I could use oil paint to give the wood a varnished look. There is a more detailed description of this process in the 2008 On30 Annual. Check it out - excellent publication.

Yes, the trains don't work well outdoors. Rather like myself. The worst problem outdoors is that the UV rays of the sun cause the ties that connect the rails to disintegrate. I do think that Peco track has UV-resistant plastic bits. This is just a 48x16 inch test layout that was taken outside for the light and background, so it doesn't matter much.

Micro Engineering Code 83 track, just one piece. I actually cut the styrofoam base to the same 36" length as the track.

These engines are not made for out doors use, and the track will rust, I've seen it happen to a friends layout, but granted it takes a wile.

The whole mechanism is Henry too. I did a video where I show how the parts fit together. And Henry's motor has become a problem. He's on the shelf while I figure out how to install a better motor. Nice catch!
