@@grits3d here’s a random idea make a cylinder replacement for the USRA 0-6-0 or 2-6-2 chassis what I mean is that I think (personally) that the stock cylinders are a little too modern for a little logging or Shortline engine that’s from the early 20th century
@grits3d4 ай бұрын
@@General1855Mantua - Agreed. It would be nice to have a plan for simplified side rods, too. Of course, it would be ideal to be able to print our own mechanisms, too. Desktop metal printing is being worked on. Still a bit pricey.

Thanks! I've seen that one before - Classic! Although I'm guessing it might sccale better with the Mogul mechanism. Those drivers are pretty big. And Mogul mechanisms are pretty easy to find... Hmm. this is worth looking at.

Very nice technique using the leaves and great stuff. It looks really good.
@bonniehollingsworth19962 жыл бұрын
When I was building my first models in the 1990’s I used Great Stuff to build a large mountain. I first made a paper cone so the mountain could be hollow, as it was 10” tall. After I sprayed the foam over the cone I covered the Great Stuff with a layer of clear plastic wrap. That way I could mold it with my hands without touching the gooey foam. It happened to be a technique that worked well. The shell of the hollow mountain (about 2” of foam) was tough and lightweight. It has withstood the test of time. I gave the mountain a 1/2” coat of Sculptamold to refine the texture. I have not seen anyone else use Great Stuff in this way before. I’m glad to see that you discovered this non traditional use of the spray foam, too.
@grits3d2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bonnie, the plastic wrap is a great idea. Especially if you want to sculpt with your hands while the foam is wet. Really sticky stuff.

What glue do you use on that 3d printed plastic?
@Schmitz32 жыл бұрын
Instead of adding rivets, you could put divots where the rivets go, then your customers could drill out the divots, then sand the body and then glue in tichy rivets, then prime and paint.
@grits3d2 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea, David. The trick is to figure out what size to make the holes, becaue they will close up during printing. In fact, they go a bit elliptical, so you have to drill them out anyway. I did finish a loco print using Archer rivet decals, which work pretty good. But it was a lot of work, and I'm lazy.

Who makes those trucks on the 4 wheel rolling stock?

Hi David, those are actually Thomas HO cars, with new wheelsets and Kadee couplers. And lots of paint. I should probably modify the brake gear so they look less British.

I have been looking for a 0-6-0 Porter style saddle tank switcher. I am also interested in the 2-6-2 kit. Do I need to email you for a quote? I also looked through your Facebook page. I see those pics you posted when things go wrong in the 3d printing process. I have not entered into that part of the hobby. I am curious. What happens to the plastic in the screw ups? Is it waste or are you able to recycle it?

Not just exquisite modelling, but excellent camera work - great depth of field, use of foreground scenery, & best of all, very little shaky camera movement! Far too many (nearly all) videos forget that when shooting miniatures, every camera move is magnified by the scale of the subject. In "real life" a millimeter move is a 48 mm move in O scale, 87mm in HO, etc. Some videos induce motion sickness... Thanks for the lock-down shots. And the truly beautiful & realistic trains & settings...

The trick I find for sanding PLA, PETG and ABS is to do wet and in stages. Dry creating melting friction as does not do the job well. Cool running water starting with 280 Drywall screen, 320 wet, 400 wet, 600 wet, 800 wet, 1000, wet, 1500, wet, 2000 wet and then can polish 3000. if it small pieces a multi surface nail file work great. I have a GP38-2 G scale 1:32 and looks injection molded. It took a while but well worth it.

How interesting that an O locomotive should haul British OO "wagons"!
@garygresham11154 жыл бұрын
Good eye. Yeah, I tried to rationalize that. The best story I could come up with is that the manager of the car shops had been raised in the UK, and moved to the US later in life. So when the railroad needed to fab up some cars for the mine, he built what he knew best. Actually, I found some Thomas cars on sale, and added Kadee couplers and a lot of paint. They still work great!

Very pleased to see such a nicely done layout that is NOT named "Bustead & Korruptud" or "Messie & Nevadone." Those get old so quickly! BTW: Lovely music, but an odd choice for a railroad video! 8-D
@garygresham11154 жыл бұрын
Thanks carmium, it took awhile to come up with. It's actually patterned somewhat after Walt Disney's Carolwood Pacific R.R. logo, which is also C.P.R.R. And Walt came up with the Carolwood Pacific name so he could pattern his logo after the Central Pacific R.R., the original C.P.R.R. You can barely see the logo on the boxcar at 0:19.

Good start. But I would like to suggest that 1. the music needs work and don't go for Hillbilly crap, 2. load up the flatbeds with something, 3. put 'water' in the creek, 4. change the camera angle now and then, 5. don't make the trains and boxcars look too clean. Take a lifetime and have a ball.
