The REAL PROBLEM here - is that all of this is still an Opinion Poll. The whole season needs to be restructured so that when Conference Champions are crowned, they, and they alone, have access to a Playoff. Playoff participation should be settled on the field of play rather than in a conference room somewhere. But this fair and equitable plan will NEVER see the light of day. If you look at end of season rankings to get a more accurate representation, it’s 4 and 4 for both. Look at strength of schedule for both. 14 and 17. So in the end a pretty equal schedule. Then you have Alabama with a head to head win and a better overall best win. South Carolina has better losses. So in the end that’s the entire comparison. For Oregon to go all out, risk injury, and expose their playbook, against Wisconsin, was pointless, when Lanning knew that the following week, they had a bye week, they had already secured their place in the title game, and could afford to lose a game, maybe even 2, and still make the playoff. Had the next game not been their rival, and senior night, he would have done the same thing against them. Basically he allowed for 3 weeks of rest, going into the conference championship, to make sure his roster was as close to 100%, as possible. They weren’t exhausted against Wisconsin. Let's face it; this 12 team playoff is nothing more than the SEC/Big 10 Invitational. Eventually, CFP will split up, just like in high schools. Division II will be the SEC and Big 10, like the 9-12 private schools. Division I will be all the rest ( ACC, Big 12, and the Mid Majors), like the 9-12 public/govt schools.

Only way they avoid this is radically changing the format of auto-bids and seeding, but even then we're already there. The other teams are just a formality, a punching bag until the SEC and Big10 meet in the championship. Look at the two halves of the bracket - each half is divided with the top 3 SEC and top 3 Big10 in opposite halves. It's set up for two of those six to meet each other for the championship. The odds against that are extraordinarily low.

Need a committee reform, this is absolutely terrible. OSU loses at HOME to a horrible Michigan team, and still gets to host a home game. I feel a fix to this playoff system would be to completely remove the non-power 4 teams from the schedule of all the power 4 teams and the playoffs. Then have 3 weeks (weeks 6, 10 & 14) during the season set to where the conferences play against each other based on current conference rankings. 1st place plays 4th from the other conference, 2nd place plays 3rd place and after that they will play the matching rank from the other conference. This will give a true look at how the conferences compare top to bottom and would expose teams that aren't what their record says they are.

With multiple conferences with a wide spectrum of strength of schedules how do you judge a team? Wins and losses are revelant in the fact that some conferences are stronger top to bottom than others. Wins vs losses is one way of judging teams, however the eye test over an entire season is the best way to evaluate playoff teams. Whether anyone else agrees or disagrees I don't care. What I think is bs is everyone is taking into account everything else but how teams are playing now. Imo that should be one of the biggest factors even over head to head unless it was within a 3-4 weeks ago. Counting a heas to head 6-8 weeks ago is weak

I disagree with you about SMU. If they lose to Clemson, they will likely drop at least 3 spots and out, because they would then have a resume like Miami’s where their best two wins are the same unranked teams as Miami beat. Their weak SOS and lack of any quality wins would likely bite them.
