Zack Arnett screwed up as HC at Moo St. He should have looked for a coordinator along the lines of the Pirate instead of doing the opposite poorly. But that doesn’t mean he can’t still coach defense.

2:40 I don’t think they missed in their evaluations. Two of the players were serviceable and decided they wanted to quit a few weeks in, one of the potential leaders got brain cancer, another transfer got hurt in training during the offseason, and there were multiple other injuries. There is such a thing as bad luck. That said, there weren’t enough encouraging signs. They should have looked better against A&M and Wisconsin even if it was the second team.

Your somewhat correct not having a DL coach present really hurt our team, a CB coach who’s learning how to do the job while on it. That goes along with everything but elite coaches will have their guys ready even with some bad occasional games or plays because of those factors, they wouldn’t have the defense disappear to one of the worst. Didn’t look like the Defense respected the DC much either based on some posts and the video of Wingo leaving House hanging on a handshake.

@@rayparker4231 An elite DC would have handled it better, sure. I just don’t think the problem was evaluations. The depth chart was mostly correct. There were some unforeseen events that changed the personnel. I don’t think House was able to adapt quickly enough to changing circumstances or to teach the less experienced guys (maybe he’s better at NFL where you don’t have players like that on a roster in games that count); but as we saw last year if things mostly go according to plan, he’s a good coach. He’s just not an elite college DC.

@@theknightswhosay I’m still gonna disagree a bit. Perkins a year ago was being talked as one of the best if not the best defensive player in the country, and he was made almost invisible. Lots of players never took their next step forward. And some portal guys we got didn’t weren’t played to their strengths. So Ig it wasn’t missed Evals but House wasn’t even good this year at all and showed no promise even with circumstances. His defense relies heavily on pressure and we had none.

Hey. So what IS “non-negotiable”….. mediocre coach selections?? The corollary of this clear out is that the guy who is about to reload/reselect is the same genius who recruited these exact individuals (he anointed as fit for purpose)….only 2 years ago. U say BK is serious about recruiting a new set of top Defensive coaches - was this not the case for him in 2022?
