Onam is celebrated on Dwadashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada and under Shravana Nakshatra. This is being celebrated on September 15, 2024. As per Hindu Mythology, King Mahabali so generous and considered as a great ruler of Kerala. The kingdom was so prosperous and and peaceful in his reign.

The gods " reincarnation of Vishnu" got jealous of Maveli's prosperous land and the unity of its people and he tricked the king to paathala. His return is when we celebrate Onam. The eligibility criteria to perform All types og yagas and yagnas is the performer has to be a Dharmathma and he should be loyal to hus wife and family in Gruhasthashrama Dharma and the yoga should be performed only with the wealth earned only by Dharmuc ways.
