It really was my pleasure! Yes, he's such a nice, down-to-Earth guy.

What a great interview and interviewer, you literally never interupt him, and let him develop all his thoughts, it’s so refreshing to watch… good job

Ah, thank you so much. I'm very inexperienced with interviewing people, but it always bugs me when the interviewer talks too much and makes it about them. I find letting them talk unhindered gets the best out of them, so often I just smile and nod and let them run with it. Really appreciate your comment.

I can't explain exactly why these videos mean so much, but they do. Please keep doing your thing. There are so many more insights and stories about these moments in time that might otherwise be lost forever.

Bond: Time To leave Dr. Doak Dr. Doak: You'll need this decoder to get to the bottling room. Good luck 007

Classic.

Interestingly enough we still rendezvous with Doak however its a pause less speed run now as theres a shooting lure (meaning we dont even require the door decoder on SA/OOA settings to opening the bottle room door ) However you still have to complete the objective by rendezvous with him...

I don't know why people bang on about this game's controls. Even now they are perfectly fine for this game, they wouldn't cut it for today's online fps games that is probably true but in this game there is nothing wrong with them.

Totally agree. I've been playing it loads recently, and I think they're still great.

@@onaretrotip I use 1.2 control style “Solitaire” - which employs the C buttons to move, and the analog stick to look. It's very comfortable. Give it a shot if you've never tried it. I play “keyboard style” with my right hand - index finger on C left, middle on C up, ring on C right, and my thumb switching off between A, B, and C down.

The dual controller scheme was pretty forward thinking, not even PS1 dualshock FPS games used both sticks until the very end (Alien: Resurrection)

Dude at the end of the interview you should have said "time to leave Dr. Doak"

I find it interesting that all these wonderful creators of such a classic game all started gaming on the mighty zx spectrum 😍. Another really interesting interview Pete. I totally agree about playability, for me that's the most important part of a game, probably why I don't play on modern systems.

Loved this! Did the Goldeneye tournament he mentions ever happen?
@onaretrotip Жыл бұрын
There was a GoldenEye tournament in the UK recently, but I'm not sure the team ever played. I did go to a talk with David Doak, Martin Hollis, and Brett Jones a couple of years ago, where we all played GoldenEye afterwards. I got to play Martin Hollis briefly.

Been eagerly awaiting this one 😍 Ever since I read this nonsense from Andrew, now Jane Whittaker, claiming his Jaguar AVP A. I routines found their way into N64 Goldeneye : Pocket : What did you do exactly on Goldeneye ? Pocket : What did you do exactly on Goldeneye ? AW : A lot of the AI routines from AvP found their way there, and of course I was heavily involved creatively, as my job was to manage exact how James Bond was used in games. Whittaker has since amended the claim to never being directly involved with RARE..
