Raw power? As opposed to what, cooked power? It’s just power, and if you think that looks terrifying then you aren’t really into your cars or power are you? Edit: You do realise as well that the shaking the camera shows isn’t representative of what the driver experiences, right? A camera is very different to a human head with eyes.

@@adamwake1915 Comparatively speaking, Steve was a lot more dialled in once his tyres warmed and was clearly the fastest out there. He wasn’t missing any apexes man. That’s an MP4/1 at Brands Hatch and it was obvious that the car was a handful at that track until he finally got the temperatures up into the operating window. When up to speed, he nailed all of the apexes (bar the final right hander leading onto the start/finish straight) as he preferred the wide line entry to help carry his speed down the stretch. The only times he wasn’t on the optimal racing line was when duelling with other cars and becoming unsighted, or whilst the cars are all entering the same corner together.

@@OddJobFix The black car he overtook beforehand did not let him by at all … conversely, he fought him all the way and we got to see a good strategic battle in order to get past him cleanly.

But understand, Ayrton Senna never drove this car. The MP4/1 was only in service 1981-83. Senna began his F1 career the next season, and in fact didn't drive a McLaren at all until 1988, when he stepped into the legendary MP4/4.

This is driving!!! Traction control = right foot, clutch = left foot, shifting with gear shift and no help from electronics or telemetry or whatsoever, it's all the driver and his talent to push the car to his limit, this is how it should be done! The McLaren MP4/1 (initially known as the MP4) was a Formula One racing car produced by the McLaren team. It was used during the 1981, 1982 and 1983 seasons. It was the first Formula One car to use a monocoque chassis wholly manufactured from carbon fibre composite, a concept which is now ubiquitous. The chassis was designed by John Barnard, Steve Nichols and Alan Jenkins, with the car being powered by a Cosworth DFY engine. The MP4 was the first car to be built following the merger of the McLaren team and Ron Dennis' Project 4 Formula 2 team; its designation was short for "Marlboro Project 4". This is a 1982 car. I manually timed laps and it seemed he was lapping around low 1.20s. Pole position by Keke Rosberg here in 1982 was 1.09xx. So more than 10 seconds faster than this guy is going in the video. If this seems fast imagine how much faster it looked when Keke went around the track. The guys in the 80s were absolute madmen... Its a shame onboard cameras were fully reinstated just in the late 80s... They missed arguably the craziest decade of F1. What I would do to have on onboard of one of the pole laps in 80s...

@@colinrunciman5166 Hello. You welcome and no problem about your spanish. I read you are an HGV Driver and you can understand about the feelings on board in a race car. You know, when I see this great video I remember Lauda, Reutemann, Pironi, Peterson, James Hunt, Villenueve that drove in the times of this video and these cars were very difficult to drive and these drivers were able to do it in great way. The principal problem with these cars was the fire in the seventies and Reutemann always tell about this. When we go to the past in the races we can find the cars were very dangerous to run and I remember Jack Stewart (that was a great champ driver in F1) and the cars he drove were more dangerous than the cars we can see in this video or in Fangio s times with cars that were very but very dangerous to drive. Anyway, to drive a race car is very difficult now and before no doubt jaja. Best Regards to you from Argentina!

With new sponsors the cars wouldn't really be historic anymore: plus these cars simply aren't safe to race at the absolute limit (they never were, but nowadays there's higher standards). Racing like this where everyone is aware of the value of the cars and drivers will back out if they're being overtaken is good enough. The point is to bring back great memories to people and let them feel the sounds and vibration from the past.
@B__L
@B__L 3 жыл бұрын
@@DVS_FOREVER-CH What would be the point in the big teams taking part? We already know which cars are quickest and you can't develop them anymore or that defeats the point. And if you get sponsors involved then that ruins the image of these iconic cars. Historic racing series like this are the best we're going to get.

The camera shake and distorted sound give a very visceral sense of the physical strain and mental stress that drivers have to contend with. This is the most realistic experience I've yet seen. I wonder if digital simulators (i.e. racing software) will (or has already) incorporated/simulated such perceptual effects in order to heighten the realism of the experience, and the authenticity of the contest.
