this was much more entertaining than I though (despite the scary but serious driving) ... brakes like a roadcar (well that's the concept of this car :D it even has the 8th gear for fuel consumption, it's just disabled) ... "my first racing lap, but also my first complete lap" ... "I didn't want to overtake them, really!"

It is even in dry conditions. Nordschleife has much more grip. The other way around, GP kills tyres much more. So less grip, but higher tyre consumption at the GP track

You were hitting wet rubbered patches and thats why you were getting snap oversteer/understeer moments, it is called viscous hydroplaning. Interestign that in the wet there is less grip in the GP part, must be because of smoother tarmac.
@DavidPerel5 жыл бұрын
On the Nordschleife in some cases it’s not possible to go off the traditional racing line. However I drove another 240i a few weeks later and it was much less snappy. So I think the setup of this particular car was just very bad.

Enjoyed watching this :). I was in the same race. Fun and dangerous. My opinion is that the GP track normally are less slippery than the Nordschleife in the wet. This spring GP has been very slippery for some reason. All the new tarmac on NS makes it easier to drive in the wet (for now).
@DavidPerel5 жыл бұрын
Yea the new asphalt on the North Course has producing a lot of grip. Similar to what I experienced when Paul Ricard was resurfaced. But eventually that grip goes away as more and more rubber is laid down.

Iv done a shit load of karting in the wet on slicks and what I learned from that is avoid the racing line (or high rubbered areas) as much as you can, always accelerate and brake in a straight line no trail braking especially if you are on the racing line. Imagine a long right-hander with a short braking zone I would stay far left on the line braking gently-ish but late! and go past the normal turning point so you end up off the line to the left then either do a 90 deg turn right across the racing line or continue around the outside. You did awesome as per usual!!
@DavidPerel5 жыл бұрын
Yea in Karting it’s much more clear that you stay off the racing line. But what I have found since moving to cars is that it’s not always so clear if that is the right method. Also at the Nordschleife there are huge sections of track where you have no choice but to be on the regular racing line in wet conditions. So it makes it quite scary 😂
@TNStrikeman5 жыл бұрын
@@DavidPerel Yer I can imagine its real scary. I guess also because its such a long lap every corner is like doing it for the first time as it could have more water.

Hi David - I use the M235i as a trainer car to learn the tracks in AC and R3E. (Almost the same as the M240i, I guess.) But this is the first time I see it being driven IRL by a seemingly "approachable" racing driver. Can you tell me how does it compare to the sim versions? (Its dislike for trail-braking is well-modelled in AC already, bit less so in R3E.)

Nice video David, I was following your racing at Silverstone the other weekend too :) Looks a bit slippier here! I guess the GP circuit sees much more slick running than the Nordschleife, that'll be why it's so much more slippery in the damp/wet conditions.

I drive there several laps in normal cars, without helmet, tourist driving, sunny warm dry weather and that was already scary let alone in the wet with a car that behaves a bit unexpectedly. I'm glad you didn't crash because you had all the odds stacked against you. I've seen plenty of crashes there, some light touches to complete lanches and up to a dozen of rolls. And those were experienced drivers as well. I'd suggest to play it safe on the NBR, for your wallet and your health :)
