Teel you shouldn’t even have to explain yourself on how long it took, quality work takes time. It’s also much more rewarding when you look at the final product when it’s well done and completed to your satisfaction. Just look at your boat, it’s almost like a work of art. The level of details exceeds the details out of a new production catamaran. Thanks for sharing your journey with us, and l truly enjoy waiting each and every video.

As a boat owner of power boats from 61' to now 42', your boat expenses are really in line. But above all, your quality of workman ship and design are beyond belief!!!!

Sailing Nahoa had a video where they spent a lot of money on a hard top that was so poorly done they had to rip it off and start over. A labor of love is worth every penny.
@trazzlotinkerboltz56843 жыл бұрын
Yes! I was going to say that. They actually had to do the project 3 times before they had a successful hardtop put on their catamaran. The first fell apart due to poor workmanship. The second failed due to personal issues with the worker. The third was by a professional team, and worked out splendidly. But, real issues can arise when hiring workers and SV Basik crew avoids all of that. It would be great to know what Sailing Nahoa spent in comparison. It also sounded like it took a lot of time due to the restarts. How much money is all that irritation and anxiety worth? They even said it almost broke them of their sailing dreams. I am glad they continued on, they have a good channel as well. Those sounded like really hard days all because of the hard top.

Wow wonderful breakdown, Im a professional craftsmen and judging your high quality of craftsmanship , in order to have paid a private contractor for the quality you provided the labor on the hard top alone would have cost at least $30,000 . Any amount less would have reflected in the quality, also the way you tied it into the existing top of your cat would not have been done with out an additional upcharge of $10,000. 25 years experience charging $100 an hour and I can only hope to aspire to the quality you both Lovingly gave to your home. My wife and I acquired our Sailboat last year and will be spending the next few years doing similar upgrades and I thank you very much for sharing your work with the world and will be referencing your build time and time again as we tackle our projects.

I loved the part where Emma lifted her head slowly from the dingy! Well, you’ve got a beautiful custom top, that alone would be more than you’ve spent. Hey SV Basik. Have you guys ever heard of the Clamptite? I treated myself to one after I saw how useful it was on Max Egorov’s channel. I got the marine version (CLT01L) in January and can’t believe I didn’t get one sooner! I can’t live without it! I know how resourceful you guys are and how you like to be able to fix anything anywhere anytime. Just thought I’d share with you my new favorite tool in case you hadn’t heard about it. I sure hadn’t! Planning on eventually upgrading to the commercial or even industrial models for even heavier applications with thicker wire. They’re not cheap but they’re virtually indestructible and will last a lifetime. I have been eternally grateful to you guys ever since you put me onto diesel heaters so I just thought I’d reciprocate with this recommendation. The video which inspired the purchase is linked below. Love your show. Looking forward to keeping up with your adventures as restrictions ease up! kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4PGaI16h8iaqLM

I believe you saved a ton of money on the hardtop ... custom costs extra on the labor side plus you spent extra funds on getting the best materials and supporting your local shop ! Compared to what anything for a boat costs these days i could see 20 grand or more for someone else to make that hard top.... even then it probably would not have all the features and build quality you would expect. Getting what you want always costs money.... Getting what you want built exactly the way you want because you built it is priceless! Job satisfaction my friends! Great videobomb cameo Emma! :-)

Yikes! I knew California was expensive, but those numbers gave me sticker shock. I hauled out here in Florida, blocks and jack stands, 20 days in the yard and my splash for a little over $700. Materials were... $220 something in bottom paint, $28.99 for a can of shaft and prop antifouling paint, $71 for hull paint above the waterline and $13.99 for a quart of spar varnish. I have no shame playing the frugal game... LOL

It took 161 days because of Teal's OCD. It takes a certain amount of OCD to own a reliable/beautiful boat. Without it, your boat would not be as safe/functional/beautiful as it is. And without some/a lot of OCD, it could also have taken 261 days to redo the mistakes made when rushing through or inattention to detail on the job. Great channel/job/family. I do miss the "thickened epoxy" shots

Hello Teal: It is not unreasonable. It is calculated that a boat owner shells out about 10% per year, on the value of the vessel in repairs / refinishing. So I think your family did very well.
@marceld60613 жыл бұрын
I used to do Finishing work and I would tell my clients: You can have a good job, a fast job or a cheap job. Pick two. Something of Teal's caliber could be done quickly, but certainly NOT cheaply at the same time. If cheap, it would take them months to finish as it wouldn't be worth their time to come back. They would fit it in when they had time. If you wanted the hard top done fast and cheap, it definitely wouldn't be a GOOD job.
@blueclue573 жыл бұрын
