I was a Life scout and I had all the Merit badges for Eagle, but I never finished my volunteer project...I got a girlfriend and lost interest in the rank. It was ultimately my own fault that I didn't finish, but my scoutmaster was also dud. I did however ,help my friend with his Eagle project and he got it... I was happy for him. He later tragically died in the Kaprun disaster in Austria. He was only 25 years old. Miss that guy.

The train fire was a tremendous tragedy and to lose so many people so young. Very sad. Scouting teaches us to be prepared unfortunately that didn't apply to the people who put the heater in the control panel. Possibly, you could inspire a young scout to do an Eagle Project with your friend’s name on it. That would be a fitting tribute. YIS⚜

I am still a member of the troop committee where he earned his Eagle, maintaining their website which includes an Eagle Nest of 37 scouts plus the Scout masters and other adults who achieved Eagle. Im an eagle scout, but sad to see that some eagle scouts simply leave scouting never to join and help out. Another sad thing that i have seen is of an eagle scout thats a parent but wont have their kids join scouting. ( my brother for example, alexander ochoa ) but im diferent. I earned my eagle on march 27, 1984. Left scouting for 3 years. Rejoin my troop. In 1987 became a scoutmaster till 2013. Planing on rejoining , and also to have my kids join scouting and become an eagle scout too.

I agree it is discouraging when Eagle Scouts won't even bring their children into Scouting. Unfortunately, we live in a time where media groupthink has taken control of the truth. We all know this 'cause we see it every day. To ignore it, is to encourage it, and then we are forced to accept it. we must break the cycle that the media groupthink narrative has created. Living by the Scout Oath & Law is the only way to breakdown the barriers that they put up to separate us all. I'm planning on plowing ahead and recruiting every youth I can because I just know that Scouting Values work. YIS⚜

Question if on m’y 18th birthday I’m a life or star am I a life or star forever or does that only apply to Eagle Scouts
@ScouterStan
@ScouterStan 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. When a youth member becomes 18 years old they are no longer a youth member in Scouts BSA. The youth rank is retained at that time. As an adult member, it's not possible to fulfill the youth requirements. There are some exceptions to this age limit in Scouts with disabilities however, this is planned out long before the 18th birthday. A lot of youth think that joining a Venture Crew will extend the youth qualifications in Scouts BSA. The requirements are quite clear you need to be active as a youth member of Scouts BSA which you can not do after turning 18. This is a hard line but it needs to be understood. Thank you for the question. YIS⚜

Got my Eagle in 2019 (ironically still haven’t had a ceremony yet.) It kicked my butt, but I said when I was 6 that I would be an Eagle Scout and I’m so happy that I got it, even if it was at 18. Scouting completely shaped the way I act 24/7. I’ve noticed it more recently, now that a lot of women don’t like stuff like having a door held open or small things like that, it’s been so weird for me. I’m so used to opening a door, and doing the small things for everyone of any gender, so it’s such a weird thing to me. It’s by far my favorite thing to talk about. I could talk someone’s ear off about my scouting experience.

I got my Eagle Scout in 1973. In six years between 1971 and 1977 21 scouts in our group obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. FYI Michael Collins was the command module pilot of Apollo 11 but never walked on the moon.

Always good to hear from fellow Eagle Scouts. Class of 1981 myself. Michael Collins got closer to the moon than either of us. He was the first human to travel alone around the moon 238,900 miles from earth. The “Loneliest Rocketman” at the time. He said that the only disappointment was he didn't get a chance to see the TV coverage of the landing like everyone else. YIS⚜

Class of '76 here, used to be a lot lower. 2-3% if I remember correctly. Of course there were no merit badge weekends and very little if any direct adult help or encouragement. "You want Eagle? Figure out a way to earn it" seemed to be the standard advice from the Scouters of the day. A lot of pretty active troops hadn't had an Eagle in so long no one could remember if they had ever had one.

Thanks for the info. My research showed that in the late 50s applications to become a test pilot were only considered if the applicant had been awarded the Eagle Scout. So I don't think it's a requirement but it sure helps on the application to get noticed. This was one of the reasons given that all of the original Mercury astronauts are Eagle Scouts. Technicaly felons can have the rank of Eagle stripped from them. However that is an extreme case. A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Curtious, Kind, Obidient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverant.
@ScouterStan
@ScouterStan Жыл бұрын
I asked about that and was told that Scouts can voluntarily publicly renounce their Eagle Scout Rank. However, they said that their records remain on file. Some things are not meant to be undone. I don't believe that the threat of losing the Eagle Scout Rank would be a deterrent of any kind. It would make the Scouting organization (that we love) look like it was trying to sweep something embarrassing under the rug. After all, it would be in direct violation or at least hypocritical of the Scout Law. YIS⚜
