Rumple's son was never in Storybrooke, and Rumple knows this, because the curse created the town. Baelfire landed in our world many years before Storybrooke came into existence. Rumple's plan was always to have Regina enact the curse, which would bring him to earth, then use Emma to break the curse, allowing him to leave and find his son.

I love your OUAT reactions! 4:27 Yes, exactly! Rumple wants to to find his son out in the real world, which required first getting Regina to cast the Dark Curse to get to our realm (Jefferson's hat only goes to realms with magic) and then having Emma break it so he can leave Storybrooke and go to the world at large. Rumple is an impressive puppet master.

Everything that rumple has ever done was to get his son back he convinced Regina to cast the curse to get him to that land and now he wants it broken so he can finally find his son.
