So how come an exiled Evil Queen still has soldiers she can order to cause havoc, and how come Rumple really is so clueless he hasn't protected Snow and Charming from indirect harm as well. After all he knows that Regina has ordered Snow to be killed several times - starting with the Huntsman - not tried to do it herself. And come to think of it: why was the Huntsman still Regina's slave when the curse was cast? Regina was Snow's prisoner for days if not weeks. Huntsman had saved both Snow and Charming and they still left him to Regina? Why didn't they use the time Regina was their prisoner to return the hearts to the people she had enslaved? We know anyone can return a heart and if they worried about getting the right heart into the right chest - well, you just take the heart and order the owner (no names needed) to step forward and that's it!

MK16 my guess (judging on that birthday episode) is that when you become one of her knights you give up your heart so that you don’t let your feelings get in the way. Also I don’t think that even Rumple is powerful enough to protect them from indirect harm not that he needed to anway since Regina was basically destined to cast the dark curse. Snow and Charmings are just idiots to be honest it’s no wonder that they didn’t raid her castle. But if I had to guess it was because even though she personally wasn’t there it was either she protected it with magic or her guards were still there. Plus certain rooms are locked with blood magic like her mothers crib and Cora’s vault is boobie trapped

Well, it isn't that easy because in season 2 Rumple put a spell on the Charmings so Regina can't kill them because he wanted Emma Swan (Snow and Charming's daughter) to break the dark curse to find his lost son.
