Good job. You spent more for medication than two weedy fish would get from 99.9% of the worlds people. I think I've seen that eye condition on Hoplo's and maybe Corydoras. Comes and goes as I recall. The one Hoplo looked to have been speared by some kind of fishing bird...that fish has had it tough for being free in the wild.
@Fish-Story4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've seen the eye thing on many other hoplo and indeed it seems not threatening and comes and goes. Wild is wild, survival of the fittest and the luckiest.

I have a sterbai corydora that has lost eyesight on one eye due to a fungal infection Fish is healthy otherwise, but the eye is the same sort of cloudy as with your catfish I dont think thats changing ever again Id be curious if it went away on this guy
@Fish-Story3 жыл бұрын
The cloudy eyes were due to the harsh potassium permanganate treatment, burned off mucus layer. When the mucus restored, it went back to normal, if memory serves... Only one survived the QT and it still lives in one of our 240 gal tanks... Both eyes are good.

I've met peers far more knowledgeable than me, who do great things in smaller tanks and I have learned a great deal from them and keep learning. They study fewer fish but way in-depth, even publish popular science articles, go around giving lectures, versus collectors like us who know a lot of fish but superficially.

We only got two of these hoplos and are using them for exhibit and got no other catfish on the current adoption list that could go into a 310 gal. They are all too big. Sorry. But if you are in FL, you can catch these hoplos yourself as many as you want. They live in every puddle.

In the rainy season in Florida when the water table rises dramatically and all the water bodies swell and when it rains, many fish travel and spread around but often get stranded on the way from one lake, pond, impoundment, creek, ditch, or canal to another. This includes but is not limited to walking catfish, hoplo and bullhead catfish, mosquito fish, cichlids, tilapia, bass, bluegill, gar, etc.
