Once Upon a Time is an American fantasy adventure drama television series that aired for seven seasons on ABC from October 23, 2011, to May 18, 2018. The action alternates between two main settings: a fantastical world where fairy tales happen; and a fictional seaside town in Maine called Storybrooke. The "real-world" part of the story unfolds with the characters of Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) and her 10-year-old son, Henry Mills (Jared S. Gilmore). Henry discovers the other people of the town are fairy-tale characters. The audience is shown the backstory of the town's people as fairy-tale characters, in conjunction with their unfolding stories in the "real-world". In the seventh and final season, the "real-world" portion of the story takes place in Seattle, Washington, in the fictitious neighborhood of "Hyperion Heights", with a new main narrative led by adult Henry (Andrew J. West), and his wife and daughter.
Once Upon a Time is created by Lost and Tron: Legacy writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. The core themes of the show are hope and optimism. Horowitz told The Hollywood Reporter that they had a conscious purpose to "do a show that had optimism at its heart", as they "felt like there was so much darkness in the world". Kitsis said: "We are guys who like to see the world as half-full, not half-empty", and it's about "seeing that among all the trials and tribulations of life, you can persevere and find light among the darkness";[2] "it's that ability to think your life will get better".[3] Star Jennifer Morrison told the Calgary Herald that it's a show about hope and positivity and connectivity, which "encourages people to believe in themselves and believe in the best versions of themselves and to have hope to have the life that they have."[4]
A spin-off series, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, consisting of 13 episodes featuring the title character of the 1865 novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, premiered on October 10, 2013, and concluded on April 3, 2014.[5]

What I liked about Snow pulling the sword off the Prince was it showed she felt the Evil Queen was her personal issue that was putting him in danger, one that she felt she was responsible to fix. It also showed how dangerous she knew the Queen to be…while everyone else passively let’s her walk up, she’s the only one who knows they need to arm themselves because the Queen is liable to do literally anything.

Once Upon A Time changed my life...in a way. It's the show that got me into watching live-action dramas; which, at the time felt new to me because I mostly watched animated content. I long avoided soap operas due to so many other shows depicting them with outrageous plots, strange twists and evil twins after evil twins. Sure, OUAT had those elements too...but I think that they work so much better HERE because it's a fantasy/fairy tale series. The moment I saw the first trailer drop, I was intrigued. Then, I approached the show like Grunkle Stan on Gravity Falls while he watched The Duchess Approves. At first, I thought I was going to regret watching the show...but after a few short minutes in, I was HOOKED like a bass on a fishing line! Since then; I've watched every episode, bought all the seasons, watched (and loved) the Wonderland spinoff, joined SEVERAL OUAT themed Facebook groups and I've been seeking all over the interwebs for any hand-forged replicas of the Dark One dagger. THAT'S how big of a fan I am of this show

Omg I feel that! This show, for all it's silly moments, has some genuinely deep moments that stuck with me as a teenager going through a lot. Quotes like, "my life is wretched...then change it" and "I need my pain because it makes me me" are simple but really stick with me to this very day and I really want to make Henry's book and cosplay (maybe belle or ruby) and I'll definitely keep covering the show.

I stopped watching this show after the sixth season, but the first 4.5 seasons were pretty fun! I have fond memories of watching every Sunday night in college, sitting on my top-bunk dorm bed in pajamas, and then in grad school with my housemate. Definitely a comfort show that gets WILD, but it’s fun to imagine being a fairy tale character from another world trapped in the real world (to an extent, haha).

This series (and I liked the first 2-3 series) I think sums up what happens when you layer too much mythology on top of each other the weight breaks everything. Also I feel Alan Moore’s League of Extraordinary gentlemen somehow looks effortless with its mixing of characters and worlds compared to how this show kinda broke under its own weight.

Snow shielding Charming and pulling out the sword, to me at least, also works as good foreshadowing that Regina had already done something to Charming in the past to warrant that reaction and establishes Snow's protective, but almost self-sacrificing nature when it comes towards putting herself in harms way to protect the people she loves. Its her wedding day, she has guards and a new husband to defend her but immediately risks her own safety to protect people from Regina. Its such a small moment but really helps show how different she is from meek, nonconfrontational Mary-Margaret.

I think the Queen’s walk is supposed to show she’s using magic to walk really fast. I compared it in my mind to Twilight and how they used tarps or something to pull the vampires along so they appeared to walk faster than they were.

The plot point that bothered me through this whole thing came down to the birth of the curse. Regina goes to Milificent because she wants the sleeping curse that Mil put on *everyone* in the kingdom when they all went to sleep... but Mil never did that! It was the blue fairy who put everypawdy to sleep so that they would not grieve for the stolen Briar Rose while they tried to keep her safe from the drop spindle. Which even that didn't make sense, really - they didn't need to take her off grid and protect her for life, they could've put just her to sleep on the day of her 16th birthday, thereby preventing her from pricking her finger. So dumb. But anyway, it wasn't even millificent who put everypawdy into a time-defying fugue state - it was Merriweather, the Blue Fairy.

I know it's the mildest of spoilers, but the one thing I can unequivocally give Once Upon A Time for is how well they rolled with the criticism of the first season and deconstructed the evil step-parent/"only biological parents are real parents" tropes later. There's a lot of things about this first season that feel a little uncomfortable about the definition of family front, that become okay by how they're developed/challenged further and honestly that's pretty brave of them. Once lived through the golden era of fan engagement, where they were still excited to listen and fans were excited to give advice in good faith, and you can really tell from season to season what meta-issues they were trying and usually succeeding in exploring. Not a perfect show, but honestly better than it had any right to be.

I cannot explain to you how many fanfics sprang from this idea and how many people were convinced that not only Elisa Maza was going to appear on Once Upon A Tim’s but also Goliath & the rest of the gangXD We were hyped over tv show live action production of Gargoyles long before the hype of Jordan Peel proposing the idea of live action Gargoyles movies. Sigh too bad Disney rejected Jordan Peel’s idea, those fools 😤! The Once Upon A Time fandom is nuts and one of the best parts of this entire show experience for me^^

Totally agree! I thought the actors playing the sisters was good but frozen just felt off in universe. Though there are some fun character moments for the regulars like snow screaming "I...was...TEN!!" and swinging a sword.

Overall OUAT is good, but it's overly long and the 7th or 8th season is unnecessary. The actors aside from Henry are very good. The plots do get very repetitive with all the curses or whatever, and I was extremely disappointed when the real Disney villains showed up and they did nothing, and Maleficent just disappears. The CGI is also really atrocious throughout this series. Oh well you can't have a perfect show. I will say it is very entertaining at times, but I'd probably not watch the whole series again. Maybe some specific episodes. I find it interesting that in later seasons there were like 2 seasons within one season. The thing about all the characters being related is really odd too. There is a reason it kinda works well in Star Wars and not this show. I definitely don't hate the show I just have a few issues with it. Also I'm typing this on my computer because commenting on the KZbin app on my phone is just wack right now and I can't comment on my phone. Also 15:26 We meet again Raphael Sbarge.

Oh this show is not perfect by any means. It's still a comfort for me. It's just one of those shows that's silly and fantastical but has fun characters and wild plots and you know everything will be ok in the end. Feels appropriate for the channel.

At 2 minutes and 45 seconds I had to pause this video. It very much feels like you don't even wanna be talking about the show and your tone sounds annoyed before it even starts. Thats very off putting

Oh here we go with my million comments. Man in the sense of fireman, policeman, bail bondsman, ect. Come from when man origins of meaning person. Like woman just mean (wifman) wife person. Male person was were with lives on in such words as, werewolf. I could be wrong but off the top of my head feels right. We're talking some really old English here.

Yes, thank you! I don't have a problem with people using more feminine titles but I personally never saw the point...it always makes the word more cumbersome. 😅 But I guess it's a personal preference.

You'll never see me argue that the show is perfect but I don't think it has to be for it to be effective in what it wanted to do. A lot of us love it for all it's goofy overly dramatic charm. 🙂
