Can i replace my old Hunter sprinkler heads with the new MP heads. it's underground Hunter system and works great though. I bought a new X-core controller for it.
@jereg17912 жыл бұрын
No disrespect.. but for anyone who is concerned enough about their lawn to even be considering an irrigation system, overall this would just be a waste of time and money not to mention aggravation. Now if your looking for a temporary solution that's only going to be used under special circumstances OR your just broke & handicapped then maybe ok for you. Also, anyone who's in the service side of the business knows these MP rotators only look good on paper, in the real world they never go the distance. On sloped grades they have there place but still fail way to much, so do the krains, so do the Toros, the rainbirds are slightly more trustworthy. If your lawn is small and isn't concrete hard and your physically capable, you can install a much better official in-ground system by hand using hose bibs, 1/2" poly pipe and a 10" Wilton slit tool, obviously you must zone the system and head count based on volume available.

I’ve been in the lawn sprinkler business for over 30 years. I’ll be honest I only made it 3 minutes into this video. I was just torn between “do it yourself, or do it right” type of mentality. As a home owner and a rental property owner I think I can confidently distinguish between “form vs. function”. Yes it works … but it seems like this is a solution for someone who’s time isn’t as valuable as I would consider mine. Just think I’m the long run it’s worth getting a system installed professionally and doing the minimal maintenance.

@aroundthehousewithpat313 жыл бұрын
I don’t see the difference between this product and a normal run of the mill sprinkler. Your still using hose that would need to be moved when mowing and moved to prevent leaving a burn Mark on the lawn from the hose if left in place when not in use. Also your not going to be able to attached more than probably two of those sprinklers off one hose line. You need to account for length and size of hose along with water pressure in order for more than one of those sprinklers to cover properly in order for it to work like an underground system works. Seems like fluff to me. Installing an underground system is an easy diy job if you put a little effort into it. Just my opinion.
@SeanHayesParleys3 жыл бұрын
Water pressure, flow rate, hose length and whether such a setup would be able to sustain more than two units at once also came to mind as I watched this. If I'm limited to 2 units based on available water pressure and flow and I follow the recommendation that both spray back at each other, then the largest area I can cover at a time is 30 square feet. That requires moving both units and hose multiple times to cover my roughly 4,000 sq ft lawn. That's simple enough to do, but it's not quite the "set it and forget it” solution presented. No shade, simple truth. Since you mentioned it, do you recommend any specific resources online or off to reference/consult for installing sprinklers myself?
@LemonySnicket-EUC3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you could learn a bit more about pressure regulated sprinkler heads. I've set up many systems and they work great if designed properly. Yes, they have more than 2 heads. We have 20 gallons a minute flow with plenty of pressure where I live. Some simple math will yield a viable set up.

Looks like a pain to setup and more complicated than it needs to be. And the expense is nearly the part cost for a sprinkler system if you do the digging yourself. Similar battery operated valves don't last more than a season from my experience. But most important is you need to zone out your lot since you can only run a few sprinklers at a time. Better to just get a standard zone timer for $40, sprinker heads, pipe, and do some digging.
@tylerk.79472 жыл бұрын
In most applications I would agree. However this system is modular and mobile, so that’s an advantage in certain situations such as mine

Great video. As a DIY guy 😂 I can’t help myself. I just built 10 Rainbird 1800’s with the 360 rotator heads for a total of $5.18 each a couple weekends ago. With average water psi I can run up to 5 at a time from 1 hose. I also took an old 100ft hose and converted it into 10ft hoses. I haven’t seen the price of these but I’m doubting they come close to that. Getting Excellent coverage Us DIY folks are OCD af. Especially if it works as good or better than store bought AND we can do it at a fraction of the cost. I also built my own in-ground with 6 Rainbird 5000’s easily covering Over 10,000 square feet with garden hoses a 4 zone and 2 zone timers for barely $350. Works pretty damn good.

We just go schedule 40 PVC in ground commercial grade irrigation in Florida. But maybe we can do that because it doesn't freeze here? I installed an entire irrigation system myself just this summer. Was an incredible amount of work but I saved over 5,000 dollars. (I hand dug 800 feet of zones, installed even the sub panel to power the irrigation pump and hooked it up to an old artesian well). It's a great way to get in shape, digging holes for 2 months in the summer of Florida.

@@PrincessCutLawnCare Congratulations George, that's a much better setup. Personally, I would put in an in-ground system, even though it's a lot of work. If you do a bit of research and install it yourself, the materials would be less than a thousand dollars CAD for a 4-zone system. If you don't want to deal with trenches, wires, controllers, and electric valves, you can just use funny pipe, fittings, and a 4-way garden hose timer. You can get away with burying the funny pipe 4" - 6" under the ground. To install, markout where the funny pipe and sprinklers are going and use a spade shovel to cut out V pieces of sod. Then flip the sod over, place the funny pipe in the trench, put the sod back, and bury your sprinkler heads. You've basically done all the hard work at that point. No more ugly hoses running everywhere and you don't have to move anything. FYI you should be using some type of backflow preventer I'm surprised the technician from Hunter didn't install one A backflow preventer keeps contaminated water from re-entering the water supply. You can use a vacuum breaker and install it on the hose bibb before the timer.

Does best with city water pressure. I have a well and live in the countryside here in Michigan. My well water pressure is maximum 60psi. The units are humming in there at about 25 ft. But...if someone flushes, or washing machine operating and the streams come out about 3 ft. Also, don't use contractible hose! When it empties, it will collapse and pull your stake out! The Hunter 100 doesn't have an ON button, it does have an OFF but you cannot turn it on or off manually except to go out to the unit and shut it off manually. Beats the reason for a remote eh? Otherwise, its really cool. All the neighbors comin' over to check it out.

I've used the combo units on rental properties and had them crack and leak after 2-3 years, where the in-ground valves hold up much longer. I have yet to find a timer I like more than the Rain Bird that has run about ten years. I don't even think they make them that good anymore. Tempted to build and program my own.

I'll never understand how circular patterns are efficient for square lawns, or how you get even coverage when the sprays are spraying a set distance and drawing circles in the lawn. I like my oscillating sprinkler. You mention that the wind can blow the water a bit....good....that adds randomness so that everything gets water.

Where I live u can’t use a filter as the stuff in the irrigation water it plugs in 2 days. So u remove the filter and away u go. The stuff in the water passes thru the nozzle. Can u remove urs without any problem ?

I was given enough 2"x20' scheduled 80. If I wanted to run that above ground along the fence line, would that act as a manifold? Would it work?

If soil allows, could i push this almost all the way into the ground so that it sort of looks like an inground sprinkler?

Yeah, it's gonna be in the way of mowing. There's sprinklers out there that'll do a 30' circle. I have a wire trojan fence. I have my garden hose zip-tied to a fence right after I weed whacked a ditch. After the grass grows back, you don't see the hose. Never snagged it with my mower. I have several Y connectors inline at each corner. I can use only a 25 foot hose and sprinkle about anywhere in the yard. 🐀🐾
