Technically it was only 7. Matt had already been voted out, so the tribe was down to 8 people, and Colton was the one doing the convincing, so that was 7 people letting it happen.

What happened was Bill went through Colton’s bag, found his idol, and threw it in the ocean. Once Colton discovered his idol missing, production asked the whole tribe about it, revealing he had an idol to the tribe. Bill admitted to throwing the idol in the ocean. The incident is why Colton wanted to vote out Bill and the tribe agreeing is because they didn’t want Bill gong through their bags as well if he didn’t already do so. Bill likely agreed because he likely figured the tribe would just throw the next challenge to vote him out anyway if he didn’t (unaware the next episode would have a tribe swap).

Another one from SJDS: A big reason Hunaphu was doing so well was because they were eating up all of their rice. After the tribe swap, they realize they need to ask for more rice and attempt another negotiation. Jeff ends up taking all of their rewards as punishment.

So I asked Jonas from One World about this. He said that Colton knew so much about Survivor that he was able to accurately predict the challenges before hand. The night before they practiced and flew through it. One of my fav insights, when they were blindfolded and being directed. If they were lost, they would raise their hands to know where they were going. That way they were confused with all the extra talking. But, that was why they tolerated him.

I thought Fairplay quit because he wanted a free vacation on Ponderosa. There was also a thing about if you quit you don't get any money, which is why in his last tribal he explicitly says "I'm not quitting" to Jeff while telling everyone to vote for him when they're on the island. Fairplay was playing the studio.

He quit because of pain - shortly before the season he broke his jaw in an award stunt gone wrong, and then on day 1 of Micro, Yau-Man slammed his head into a boat and re-injured his jaw. The producers refused to give him painkillers, and as a bit of insult to injury, James was allowed nicotine patches. I imagine the oncreen story was a cover that they forced him to keep up, becuase the truth makes Survivor sound negligent, especially considering the number of injuries & medevacs that season.

Just wanted to mention that I don't think the rules were forgotten in the new era. It had always been that you couldn't sit out back to back challenges within the same cycle (i.e. reward, then immunity). If someone sat out of immunity, and then also wanted to sit out of next cycle's reward, that was allowed. Combining reward and immunity into one challenge is a big reason why the rule needed to change.

Hated Colton when he got everyone to agree to go to tribal, hated him even more when he orchestrated the medical quit and now hate him even more for agreeing to come back and then quit because he couldn't play with his beau. Then you have Purple Kelly and the other one that want their torches snuffed, or in the other ones statement smuffed. They should have just replaced them in the jury, but unfortunately the premerge players had already left the island. That rule quitters aren't to be brought back has been overlooked at least once, because they brought Colton back and as early as the season 24 winners announcement post season interview episode Jeff question him on his quit. To which Colton corrected him to medical Evacuation, even though it was the world worst secret. i.e. everyone knew he orchestrated it because he no longer want to play with these "wierdos".

Just for clarification, the rule about sitting out back to back challenges was not removed, and then changed back. The rule was, prior to the season here, that a player could not sit out two challenges in the same episode. So, they couldn't sit out a reward challenge and the immunity challenge. But, during an early segment of the show when they were only having one challenge per episode, the rules allowed for someone to sit out the immunity challenge each episode. Because of what happened there, the rule was modified to say that a particular player could not sit out two consecutive challenges, regardless of how they fell in the schedule.
