Tom would have probably been one of the first people to be voted out in both pre merge and post merge. Even in his age, ten years after his last season, he would still be considered a threat. If his social game would be as strong as in Palau, he might get to the final eight or seven. But if he is like in Heroes vs Villwins, he ain't going far in the game.

No hidden immunity idols, 5 clutch immunity wins, had a human meat shield in the form of Ian. He single handily won some of the challenges where Palau dominated Ulong. I think he would've excelled in an all winner season, it's a shame the 'hero' tribe was delusional and thinking of merge from the very start. He goes into detail about his time on 'Rob has a podcast'. Tom's just lucky Queen Wanda didn't last past the first day ;)

My parents watched almost every season of Survivor growing up. I never tuned in for more than 5 minutes at a time, but my subconscious memory has never forgotten Tom. As soon as I saw him in the thumbnail my brain flooded with memories of seeing his face on the TV in my childhood home. He’s that powerful.

After Tom voted for Ian TWICE at final four, and Katie forced a tie both times and wouldnt waver, I would not have voted for Tom Either. This should have been entirely predictable by an audience. As soon as Tom had the option of two women by his side, he was going to vote Ian out, instead of "duking it out like men" as he had literally told Ian was the "honorable thing," turns out he was planning on voting Ian out final 4 the entire time, and had mistakenly counted on the Idea that Katie would too. He wanted two women by his side because he predicted, correctly, that two women he could beat, and neither would get any of the votes. For That, I would have refused to Vote Tom too.

Watching those scenes from the final three to the finale hit me with nostalgia like nothing else. I think that was like the first formative memory I ever had, watching that with my grandmother before I think I knew how to read. I even remember seeing that gentleman's manoeuvre by Ian in the final challenge on the news for like a week after.

Watching this show starting from season 1, just finished Palau. Tom is my most satisfying winner so far. I respected how well he played this game in several aspects, no one wanted him to go this far in the game because they knew he would win and they were right.

I realise I'm late to the party but reading the comments I find it interesting that in the discourse about whether or not he's likeable as a person is completely missing his Heroes vs Villains appearance. Where he kinda tanked his own game by standing up for Stephanie when she was being bullied by James to the point of being targeted over Colby (Superman in a fat suit who was beaten in a challenge by a dude with his leg in a cast). He made the same comment of "sometimes in Survivor you have to bite your tongue", and then broke his own rule because of how frustrated he was with James's bullying. He's very open about the fact that is is a game and it's not possible to play completely genuinely. He admitted that one third of winning Survivor is luck (which is a thought he gave in his exit interview from HvV and then is repeated by Colby in his jury speech during the finale - implying that they spoke about it before Tom was eliminated). To acknowledge that there is luck in Survivor as a former winner kinda highlights the lack of ego given the sheer amount of players who try to claim there isn't luck. Also - part of the reason he was cast in Palau was because he was a firefighter who was on the ground during the September Eleven attacks, and in confessionals they kept trying to get him to talk about this to play up is heroism and he kept refusing to do so. He deliberately did not buy into production's attempt to paint him as MORE of a hero. He owns his villainous actions and owns the huge luck component to the game.

thing about Tom's game he was up against most competitive players ever assembled 'to date'---especially the woman. Plus he had to overcome making bad decision about switching camp locations. Normally being a good leader works against a person in survivor world.....as the game evolved. Tom made it look easy considering competition level compared to Brian Heidik who had lowest level of comp thailand. But Brian made it look very easy. Fire fighter vs used car salesmen LOL

Surprised by how many people love Tom/think he played such a clean game, I remember at the time that last immunity challenge ruining the season for me because it felt like Tom really bullied/emotionally manipulated Ian in a way that felt gross beyond the game.

Tom would have beat anyone in the final so unlike Ian, had the comfort to not have to go against his partner so it wasn’t fair for him to expect the same in return, so his guilt trip was unnecessary and mean. That being said he was probably the most deserving winner to this point.
