Andrea, hi 😍💐 a lot of work, for me, in my climate! Others seem to have no trouble with it at all, sooo, yes... it is good to hear the varied experiences and climates to know if this is normal, or just in my case! I love the red one that I have, the cinnamon and the white were pretty as well, but wow... too much drama for something that isn't really that 'fancy' of an orchid. Yay!! You are on vacation! Rest time, holiday time, Christmas time! Wonderful!! Enjoy 🥳🥳thank you so much for watching, Andrea! Have a lovely evening 🌸

After acquiring several Oncidiums: Irish Mist 'Winter Green' .... Heaven Scent 'Redolence' ...Pacific Sunrise 'Hakalau' Sweet Sixteen 'Prepossessing' & ampliatum ... I am Under-impressed & may pass them along to a grower who has more patience. The _ONLY Oncidium type I will hold on to will be my 3 Psychopsis... They are really s-l-o-w growers but worth the challenge :)

Hey!! 😎💐 right?? I wanted other types of these large spike, big bloom count oncidiums.... used to eye the sotoanum before getting the Twinkles, but never bought one because of their size. Now, I am glad that I had the Twinkles first, because the desire for sotoanum is passe now. I will do my best to make my Red Fantasy grow better, but, I do not have any ambition to get more.... of any oncidiums, as a matter of fact 😁😉 thank you so much for watching 🙌🏼 hope your day was nothing short of fabulous 🌸

So sorry about your twinkles. I only have one but no pest’s. They are cute but not my favorite either. What I don’t like about them is when they are done flowering the spent flowers shed all over the place. They are messy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 🤗👏🌴🌸

Shirely, hi! 😍💐 their cuteness is misleading 😅😅 they look at you with those cute blooms, that incredible fragrance... and they totally mislead with what they put you through 😁 not that I am happy with my opinion, but, I just had to take the risk to be honest with what I have considered since I found them in my garden centre... not really that worth it. Eve IF I grew mine well, considering the pest magnet it is, I would not buy another one. Too risky! Thank you, Shirley, for watching and your comment... now I don't feel so bad 😃🙌🏼 hope you had a beautiful day 🌸

I’ve recently put my 3 newly acquired twinkles out under the patio to enjoy our summer but now I’m worried about them and what you said regarding bugs, drafts etc. So far they look healthy and first chance I get they’ll be checked over for scale and mealy bugs. Thanks for putting this video out there, as they say “the good, the bad & the ugly” we need to see it all.

Renate, hi 😍💐 as long as your Twinkles are not in spike, don't worry about the drafts. Airflow is important for these little guys. When they start they spikes, that is when the care really begins, when they start to bud out, even more so. Please do not let me put you off your Twinkles. You may not have any pest issues at all, seeing as your indoor climate is much more controlled than mine in the winter. My doors are constantly open, my air is very dry... pests love the sugars these orchid develop when spikes start. As far as growing them out with their new growths, sounds to me you have them in the perfect location 👍🏼👍🏼 thank YOU so much for taking the time to watch, Renate! Valarie 🥰💐hi there, lovely lady! Well, I am envious of your conditions and thriving Twinkles, Valarie! Nothing better than a happy Twinkle that does not create anxiety as a secondary effect 😬 thank you so much for watching! Methinks that, after the clean up, I will have it in even more water retentive media. The bugs are loving the humidity but for the orchid itself, it is not enough for it to do well to ward off the beasties. We shall see. In the meantime, I am going to pinch off the yellowing bulbs. Thank goodness they feel firm to the touch, still 👍🏼🌸

Ugh! I 100% agree with you, I was gifted a twinkle some years ago (prob because the plant is just a diva), has not bloomed for me. It started doing great when I got it, was progressing and then it dived...out of nowhere... Handled it the Miami way and one of the divisions has new growth, the other one is just sitting there in shock after being divided. I blame the heat, now I know better. Good to see you N, them twinkles huh?!...

Al!! HI!! 🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🤩💐 Twinkles... I was expecting to make enemies with my commentary in this video, but... it appears, that, I am not alone 😅 not sure if that is a good thing? 😂 when I clean this one up, and if it wants to stick around, then it will go into a more water retentive set up. But the spikes... the bugs, anxiety central! 💣💥🤯 I assume the 'Miami way' is that it now lives in a tree? It is probably too hot for it for most of the year, here, and then it is sooooo sugary, that the pests are PAAARRRDDDAAAYY during the winter 🤪 thank you so much for watching, Al! I hope your Twinkle will be here for many more years, we can not miss you in this care collab! I struggled with mine for years, finally they seem to do better, way better. At one point I did give up on them. I potted them in self watering with syntic and small pumice, put them on a shelf, give them there water and that was basically it. And then too my surprise they started to grow again. I know that mine didn’t like the leca, well not as a top layer, they seem too make and grow new roots in to the media, small pumice easier… Thanks for all the info and making this wonderful care collab! 🦒🌻🎅🌞🙋‍♀️!!!! So sorry to hear about pests in your twinkles. I haven't had any pests on them ever. Amazing how things can work so differently with same orchids and again it is hard to understand!!! Climat maybe? Nuh...I am inclined to think they came in with bugs from the store and once you've got them, it is so difficult to get rid of them especially with such small structures. Same with Tolumnias, so difficult to clear them up...Twinkles sure are slow, though. When you were preparing this CareCollab and I told you how mine were late and that maybe they would open up for Christmas I must say I was joking... I did not remember how slow they are and never thought they would come to December and not have opened yet. I would say it's because they have so much to work with but what would you say about my Laelia anceps hybrid which takes from September to March to grow a spike almost 1 meter long? Two flowers last year and I will be lucky I get as many this year... Much love to you amiga mia, have the best of days 💖🥰😍

FFF 🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️😍🥰💐hello meine liebe Freundin! Definitely climate related! Pests are attracted to certain climates, and when it is low humidity outside, they come and find the set up that has a high humidity, crevices and high sugars on the go... buffet central! I think that this year the spikes are developing even slower because it was much cooler than in the past years. I will only be able to verify this to be true IF next year is back to the hot temps that we should have during spring summer and fall. I admire you for the anceps patience, the care it takes to not break the spike etc... several reasons why I never bought an anceps and the length of the spike, its time to grow and then bloom out, was one of them. So, mad respect for you and your dedication to that spike 👍🏼 👍🏼hope you had a beautiful day, amiga! Still no rain 🤣🤣 but, when in Spain, there is always tomorrow! Who cares... I can't leave the orchids outside if it were to rain anyways. Lights will need to go on after midnight, though, IF the days are overcast. Nina, try adding 1/2 tspn of Liquid Paraffin per 100mls ( can probs get at local pharmacy) and a few drips of dishwashing liquid. Shake it and keep shaking every now and again, to keep the foam on top. Spray liberally on a warm breezy day. This leaves a better film that the plants can still breath through.

@@NinjaOrchids They came super dry and from what I can see most of the roots are dead. I gave them a welcome home soak in 60/40 and they all worked up, but I’m a bit worried that I may need to sacrifice the the spikes filled with buds. @NinjaOrchids
@NinjaOrchids 2 жыл бұрын
@Paige quick reply... check how many spikes/ pseudobulb and if there are 2 then cut one. I know this is hard, but you can enjoy some blooms but not tax the whole orchid. Check bulbs, with single spikes and if they aren't plump, then really monitor that bulb from here on in. If it keeps getting more wrinkled, cut the spike off and enjoy in a vase. I have a video coming out in a few hours 😅 maybe that will add to your decision making process. A follow up will air a couple of days later, depending on any additional questions the next video has in the comments. 🥰

Oh dear... I guess the lack of humidity, too much heat? To make you feel better, I've lost oncidium Tsiki Margaret and oncidium sotoanum. I've since rebought sotoanum. My Twinkle isn't difficult to grow, and I have not seen pests on mine. Scale is difficult to eradicate in my experience and I usually just toss the plant. The scale hides in crevices and I think it can stay dormant for some time too. You can grow 99.5% of the orchid genera so this isn't so much of a setback. At any rate, the spikes can take up to 5 months to mature and open. The flowers can be unscented, and when they fade, they make a mess on the floor! I keep my Twinkle because it is compact and my hubby likes the smell. Hope though you do wind up being happy with yours 😁🙏

Huh, I never get pests on mine. But I truly cannot stand the smell. I bought it because people told me how wonderful they smell and I'm going to love it. Uh, no. I can't even describe how it smells to me, rotten vanilla and vinegar perhaps. I'd get rid of it but it is just on a mount and it hangs there and I don't really do much with it. I'm saddened that you lost the Cinnamon and that you are having so much trouble with the pink one now. I think I said a couple years ago with the white one that I had a lot of trouble with mine when it was potted, rotting roots and bulbs. I know plenty of people grow them that way, it just didn't work for me. I do hope that you're able to get it straightened out and maybe the pest problem is a function of the plant not being entirely happy so they are moving in for the kill. Whatever the case, it would be nice if it sticks around and looks better this time next year.

Even my harpophylla... taking it's sweet time, but, you do you boo!! I'm good with that. I love the Twinkle fragrance, but I don't love it THAT much that I will be devastated if it doesn't make it. Really appreciate you watching, Michael, thank you so much! We are expecting a week of rain (heard that one before, but.... this time of year, ya never know!) hope you had a great Wednesday and wish you a relaxing evening ❤️🌸

HI Ingrid 🥰💐 I am telling you... I sound harsh in this video, but it is due to pure frustration and it is giving me anxiety 😅 simply because of the time of year and that she is indoors, so... a little time bomb indeed. Today I made my rounds again. So far, I do not see anything happening else where 🕵️‍♀️🔎😅thank you so much for watching, Ingrid!! I hope that you had a beautiful day 🌸
