Rioters in Wales torched cars and threw bricks at houses in shocking scenes after a vigil for a local teenager who died suddenly.
A splinter group left the wake for 19-year-old Ethan Powell and began tormenting residents in Swansea's Mayhill area, forcing police to retreat even as locals frantically dialled emergency services.
Officers are using CCTV and social media footage to identify individuals responsible and urged people with any information to come forward.

I love the responses from the clear experts here. However, the truth is that, while it looks bad, it is actually a tactic of de-escalation. Police are pretty easily able to bring up a list of everyone involved via their own cam footage, the morons who record themselves doing crimes and then put it online, and friends dobing on each other. So they show up to the scene periodically in order to keep an eye on the situation and to intimidate some people into leaving, once they believe that they are encouraging the violence with their presence they back off and come back. They want everyone to go home so they can nick them while they are not surrounded by 200 other yobs throwing things, and who potentially have weapons. Why risk an officer getting a brick to the head when you could arrest the same individual as he cries in front of his parents?

The RUC literally murdered and bate Catholic civil rights protesters off the streets. This was prior the the revival of the IRA so you can thank the RUC and their heavy handed tactics against Catholics for the revival of the IRA to protect Irish Catholics from British oppression and their facist police. There was one van, maybe 4 coppers - Vs 200 cider chavs driven only mob mentality and booze. The kids would easily over power them with rocks and bats. It’s just tactical to drive away until reinforcements arrive. This area has probably faced harsh policing cuts and unemployment under successive governments. It was a flash riot and the police obviously didn’t get warned in advance. At least no one got hurt, if this happened in the US some of the kids would have been shot to death by the police if they had been surrounded and outnumbered. I still prefer the UK response.

The Government has a light hand on these matter even still I agree the US would go to the extreme but we can Look at other countries like Russia and France this would have been dealt with a heavy hand. We're not quite at the ruins stage yet, but we're definitely at the end of an era. I just bought a nice Kawai digital piano, because I have a feeling it was made at the peak of the technological curve.
