Same thing happened to me. My confidence morale and even focus got destroyed. I still regret it as I could not qualify this exam. I had to switch from upsc to SSC and anyhow I managed to cleared the SSC and now I am an officer at GoI but i still have regrets. I still have depression, i am still taking antidepressants my focus and confidence is still not upto the mark. But i will try it next year because I want to reduce my regrets.

Sir you are right about giving everything in our 1st exam in order of having no regrets after my last attempt I can certainly pitch this that 1st attempt should be given with full confidence but sir for those who are in their 2nd or 3rd attempt this is quite demotivating as we feel very foolish our confidence get shattered......

After graduation i gave two serious attempts of upsc ..wrote one mains ..but failed..but didnt try another attempt. I prepared for another job and got it in 2019 ..my hobby is to play cricket...i am in good service right now with good salary.. playing cricket match every sunday...doing what i love to do ..and at 27 of age now with my job ..i strt preparing again will give 2024 attempt this year for upsc .. without any burden..bez i realised this many year back ..that aftr any exam upsc or anything..u have to be focused on yourself..ur health ,ur mindset, ur sprituality. Upsc or anything will give you a job only ..rest you have to work on it..so dont Destroy urself ur youth for this exam only ....

If UPSC is really your dream, you need to really give atleast 3 atempts before quitting. Please don't lose your dream thinking about the fun things you can do in your 20's. They can be done in your 30's too but can't achieve your dream once you cross a certain age. These motivational speakers nowadays speak anything according to their wish to increase the views by giving a different content. Just focus on your dreams and nothing else can stop you. Was always thinking about appearing for the exam, but I had no clear answer to 'WHY', for many months I did try to find the answer, but now I realized it's better not to start unless there is a clear picture of what do we want, where we are going, what we will get. I lost my 20's and I just entered the workforce after 7 yrs of career gap. My manager is my batchmate and my peers are much younger to me. If you have a job, don't leave your job as I did. This exam can be cleared while working, you may not clear in 1st attempt but in3 attempts with 10hours of work daily, one can manage to clear this exam in 3 attempts. If you are hell bent to give up on your job, take NOT more than a year break from job and give your everything in preparation. Later, this preparation will help you while doing your job since the efforts needed will greatly be reduced since you already laid the foundation. DON'T fall for coaching center or fellow DELHI ASPIRANTS words. Be Practical. All you need is a good MENTOR to clear this exam which will save Years for you.

That's how you don't clear UPSC. it's a five year plan unless you are exceptional. So don't start if you don't want to invest your five years. Because after that when you succeed then entire world will change for you. A person who never cleared the exam cannot understand the value of that post of an IAS officer.

Government has to change format of UPSC and restrict the number of attempts be whatever candidate caste/age. People are loosing most productive phase of their career due to way this dream being sold. Everybody should know in career they are not late they are on time.

Is there a fix for those who have already wasted their 20s or should we just shrink in confidence even further, its absolutely right to give your best attempt once it can't be the first for many since the syllabus is evolving each year. Speaking of regrets you'll surely have one if you don't clear, you'll have to choose the one you can live with, wasting five years of life regret or lifelong regret of would have cleared if persisted regret. The Jeff Bezos part is hardly relevant since he seemed to have persisted with his goal, that's what aspirants do?

I don't agree with one shot and clear the exam . Not everybody has the capability to clear it in one go . This requires alot of time to know what upsc really demands . That's the reason why upsc allow 6 attempts. I do agree after 2nd or 3rd attempts better to ask yourself.

Exactly, its fine to give ur best in first attempt, but some people miss it by a little, could be demotivating if they are confident enough for 2nd or 3rd attempt, i have seen so many people clear the examination in 5th attempt

​@@anjali253 if you prepare well, 1 or 2 year is more than enough to read all the static portion and understand it well. Even after 2 attempts, you are not getting any positive results(out of list/interview by few marks), it's suicidal to continue preparation and immense pressure mounts on you, even if you are financially well off. You can never perform under pressure. Also don't be ideal. Make a list of people who cleared in 5/6 th attempt. Maybe you will get 30-40 stories. In my friend circle, including me, it's has been 5 years, no one have cleared the exam. Now everybody is looking for a job but year gap is a problem everywhere. While my friends who went straight into jobs after graduation are earning well. We wish we never prepared for govt exams. For every 700-900 motivational stories, there are lakhs of failure stories, which you never see in KZbin or any social media platforms. This is the reason for our ignorance and idealism. If you were serious in initial 2,3 years, you can easily prepare with a job.
