If you haven’t already, I think hearing you talk about Amazing Spider-Man #500 would be really interesting. It’s the comic where Peter gets lost in time with Doctor Strange and has to relive his entire history as Spider-Man in order to get back to the present. Every battle, every triumph, every failure, he has to do all of it again. Lifting the rubble to get the radioactive isotope for May, failing to save Gwen, he has to do it all again, back to back, in a far worse condition than when he originally did them. At one point he begs Doctor Strange to just let it end, but he Strange finds the words to inspire Peter to get back up and continue. When Peter makes his way back to the present, he manages to successfully stop the other Avengers from destroying the world and after the battle ends, Peter finally goes back home to Mary Jane. When he goes onto the roof for some air he finds a present from Doctor Strange. And when he opens it, Uncle Ben appears before him, and Peter gets five minutes to talk with Uncle Ben, the man who raised him. The man whose famous words turned Peter into Spider-Man. And in my opinion its one the best comics involving Spider-Man, and its an excellent tribute to what makes the character special.

A question I have is... Peter Parker/Spiderman gives people hope. What gives him hope? An idea for a story I have is that Peter is actually quite depressed but keeps this incredible facade up because he knows he isnt living for himself anymore, but for those around him. He makes them laugh and smile, feel safe, because thats the only thing that causes him joy anymore. I can see him struggling especially hard one day and then suddenly a surprise parade is held, by people he saved, for him and it just makes his whole week. Like he just has this genuine smile that he cant keep rid off and when he gets back to his apartment his neighbor comments that he has a smile and that normally he never sees him with one.

One plotline that goes really well with this is Nick Lowe's idea that Peter (or his daughter) are ultimately destined to take down Mephisto. I like to think that would be a natural continuation of this versus OMD. I really enjoyed the idea that Peter was not only acting as someone looking out for the little people, ending up saving untold thousands of lives by himself, while ultimately being forged into someone pure of heart capable of defeating one of the most evil entities in the multiverse.

I really enjoyed this issue, Spider-Man not only saved the lives of those fictional people but I'm sure it was a message to all the readers Spider-Man's stories have impacted in a positive light throughout the decades, me being one of them. When I look at Spider-Man and Peter Parker it gives me hope and an ambition to do better in the world, which is something I hope to do in the medical field, not for the recognition but because it is the right thing to do and it is part of what gives life purpose. Each one of us can take something from Spider-Man's heroism and apply it into whatever we have a desire or love for as long as it is to better our world, whether it is in engineering, computer science, law, or healthcare or whatever it may be.

That's why in all three Raimi movies, when he needs it the most New York comes together to help Spider-Man because he's been doing it for them all this time. He saves countless New Yorkers every day and prevents so much misery and damage to the city that when it comes time to pay that bill, they don't even hesitate. The clap their hands together as one and do anything in their power to help Spidey with whatever he needs. Despite JJJ's slander campaign, despite all his many setbacks, despite many of his villains trying to hurt him where it hurts the most and despite him getting in his own way pretty much every day, New York deeply loves Spider-Man and recognize the good he does while asking for nothing in return. The day Spider-Man does give up being that guy is the day New York loses its shining beacon and becomes less of it for that. Something even JJJ has to confess, the few times it happens (including in one of the movies).

Honestly, this makes me more upset about what the writers would do right after. Peter literally just met god who showed him how important he is, and how big a difference he's made in the world- And just a few issues later, he throws his whole future away by making a deal with the devil. All because he didn't have faith. Which is the least Spider-Man thing Peter could possibly do. I still blame Tony Stark for indirectly setting off the chain of events that has irreparably ruined Peter's life. But Peter, Spider-Man, is practically the EMBODIMENT of responsibility. And the one time he doesn't take responsibility, it leads to 16 years of miserable Spider-Man stories, and Peter, the Marvel Universe, and the fans, losing the one thing Peter Parker more than anyone would deserve- A happy ending forged through resilience and responsibility. No one who wrote for these Spider-Man comics can say they didn't know what they were doing when they undid DECADES of character development, and put the character into unending miserable limbo. Hell, newer comics have retroactively made things WORSE, by saying "Yes, not only did Aunt may die anyways after saving her cost Peter his maturity, wife, and future child, but that future child that doesn't exist also would've been the only person who could've stopped Mephisto in the future." Honestly, the sheer audacity to have THIS right before Peter signs everything away, is a spit in the face to the legacy of multiple characters, I'd even say it's a disrespect to Peter, Aunt May, Uncle Ben, and Mary Jane for having ever existed. And honestly, I have no faith that it'll ever be remedied, because writers have tried, and failed, because someone in Marvel absolutely refuses to change the bar that One More Day set, in spite of it being the most hated decision in all of Marvel comics, they still cling to it, and even try to twist the knife, in what is now a 16 year old festering wound. By the time One More Day is undone, the damage has already been done, and no one will want to read Spider-Man comics anymore, of which very few people do now. It's almost like someone in Marvel has made a concentrated effort to make Peter Parker and all the characters attached to him as unlikable and miserable as possible, but ONLY in the comics. One might think that they HAVE to fix things eventually, since it's not like they can ACTUALLY make Peter Parker so miserable it ends the world...but that's the same argument people have had about them fixing One More Day and having him get back with Mary Jane and stay together...for almost 2 entire decades now- The damage is already done in my opinion, and if there is a revival in Spider-Man comics, it probably won't be for at least another 10-20 years, at which point, about half a billion to a billion people will die in a world where One More day has never been fixed. Which is the sad reality of how messed up Spider-Man comics are right now, I'm not gonna hold my breath that a problem with a fictional character will suddenly be fixed after 20 years of misery, one because I might be dead by then, but also two, because there's much better Spider-Man stories...they're just not in the main line of comics-

@@nadiahapsari3359 That does exist, but it's alternate world instead of main timeline. "Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows", ran from 2015 to 2018, about Peter and MJ having a daughter and becoming a family of heroes, since their daughter inherits Peter's powers, and MJ gets a suit which mimics Peter's abilities. But it's a completely separate universe from the main universe. Ultimate Spider-Man was also mostly good, even if the Ultimate universe was a mess, it had a good Spider-Man according to most, but the Ultimate universe essentially ended, and then sort of came back but hasn't been used for much, and to my understanding the last thing that Spider-Man did was find out he was basically immortal and rode off into the sunset with Mary Jane, letting Miles take over. Like I said, there's plenty good Spider-Man comics and stories, just not in the main comic timeline.

They set up a prison in the negative zone to hold people who saved the world indefinitely without trial, without due process for the crime of helping people without government oversight. In fact, it's one of the things I like about Spider-man the most; he is the living embodiment of the idea that "You don't do the right thing because of what you'll get out of it, but because it's the right thing to do." Obviously, that doesn't mean they need to beat Peter down at every given opportunity either.

That comic is excellent. I think the way the one above all's dialoge was written was well done. He engages on all levels. He shows him deep truths, and allows him to see what his life means to saving others, but doesnt pretend that fixed Peter's emotional problems. He intelleftually engages with Peter which is where Peter lives, but also emoyionally by acknowledging thay knowing that doesnt fix the pain. He also shows how the onrle above all helps stop suffering of millions by ensuring that people like Peter are there at the right moment to save them. Without outright saying it or even taking credit for Peter's work.

the true answer is that being a hero is sacrificing your life for others. not as in dying themselves, but all the pain they go through is not for their benefit, but rather for those they save. that is what makes a hero. not the good times that come with it, but the sacrifice of their life for others, many of which they will not even know.

I like that the One-Above-All has basically never actually shown up except for this time and when the Fantastic Four met him in the form of Jack Kirby. And I'm glad that after that dumbass comic about Thanos gathering these little orb things that apparently made the universe work and becoming God after being what the writer claimed to be the One-Above-All, all the readers and basically every other writer was like "Oh yeah, no, that wasn't actually the One-Above-All, that was Above-All-Others, who is totally different and way below the actual OAA." That guy really just loved Thanos way too much to try to say he beat the overall God who has always been depicted as so far beyond everything else that no amount of power will let you interact with or reach him unless he wants you to.

One of my favorite book series is The Dresden Files, and one of my favorite stories from the series is a short story called The Warrior. Mainly because at the end, when Harry (the main character) is having a drink after the events of the story, Uriel, one of the archangels in the series, who are described as being able to obliterate entire galaxies with a thought, shows up. Harry's kind of like Peter, in the sense that he's at the center of a lot of these big events, and he has a LOT on his shoulders (mainly due to standing in front of innocents and those unable to fight back, similarly to Peter), and he goes through a LOT of immensely tough shit. **Spoilers below** So Harry's just sitting there, thinking about the events of the day, and Uriel shows up. Harry acts Uriel why the forces of heaven didn't step in to stop what happened that day to help. Why they didn't send a Knight (Knight's are a thing in this series, people who are Called, and who wield Swords that are imbued with the power and actual being of an Angel). Then Uriel sits back, gets a look in his eyes, and starts telling Harry about the people he helped that day, people whose lives he helped significantly, without Harry even realizing it. He explained how Harry helped to break the centuries log cycle of parental abuse in one family, and how he saved the life of one guy whose son is sick with cancer, and how he unknowingly encouraged a distraught and lonely young girl to become a social worker. Then he tells Harry that maybe Heaven DID send a Knight (obviously indicating Harry.) That story hits me hard every time I read it. And it's SO similar to One Above All visiting Harry.

Good story. I think another possible reason that the One Above All appeared to Peter is something said in an earlier story, one that featured Thanos as the bad guy, and the Thing, the Avengers, Captain Marvel (the original), and Adam Warlock are the costars. In this story, Lord Chaos and Master Order make an appearance. They're cosmic entities who rarely make an appearance, less so than the other cosmic biggies. They confirm that they chose Peter to be Spider-man because there's something special about him, something that sets him apart from other mortals. If Peter is noticeable to beings that far up the cosmic food chain, then I see it as no wonder that the One Above All would take an interest in our friendly, neighborhood Spider-man.

The thing about the One Above All is that he's not God or even *a* god. He's both much more and much less than that. He's the manifestation of Marvel Entertainment in the Marvel Comics universe. He dwells at the threshold of the House of Ideas (which is the nickname for Marvel's editorial offices from way back in the Lee/Kirby days). He Journeys Into Mystery (Journey Into Mystery was one of the first Atlas/Marvel comics, where Thor and Hercules were introduced into the comics). He has stated that his "only weapon is love" and that there are many things he does not know, "and the Mystery intrigues me". He is "the highest creative force in known existence" in Marvel. He is also the One Below All, whose only weapon is hate, and who exists to destroy, to create opportunities for the One Above All to create. The Defenders (Blue Marvel, Loki, Tigra, Taia, Cloud, Doctor Strange) journey through the history of the multiverse all the way back to the death of the Second Cosmos, and then through the White Hot Room (wherein the Phoenix Force dwells, the infinite possible) and finally to the doorway to the House of Ideas. The One Above All cannot pass through, because he is a creation, but Loki, because he exists outside of Marvel Comics (as a Norse God, he was worshiped centuries before it existed and is still worshiped today) is able to pass through. He's able to stand on the pages of the comic itself and look at the readers and writers and editors and understand his existence as a fictional extension of his larger self. This is something the One Above All isn't capable of, because while he was conceived as the creator of All That Is in Marvel comics, he's a part of that fictional creation with no counterpart in the real world. Loki is given the option to step out of the narrative and exist in the real world as his real self, or to choose to remain in the narrative and help others, and chooses to stay, taking the equivalent of a Bodhisattva vow to not leave until he has helped the other characters understand the truth of their existence (when they are ready to accept it) and transcend. So, in his way, the One Above All is both supremely powerful and utterly powerless, since he exists as a symbol of Marvel's actions toward their characters and thus has no agency to fully understand his own actions, or the things that happen to characters like Spider-Man, because he doesn't know what is in the writers' or editors' minds, only what the editors decide to put on the page.

So much of modern media is hellbent on dominating our perspectives on life with their divisive messages. These stories remind people why theyre important, and why they should have heroes, even if those are fictional. Please share more in your coming videos about why these stories resonate w/ you because we as viewers are using you as an alt. form of media since the other sources are so polluted. Thanks for covering this series. Ive never been much interested in the Marvel DC comic scene, more about which characters stood for which things. Everyone else is off fighting cosmic thanos and Peter is doing his thing in NY and screws up, a piece of debris hits an AC condenser which explodes and Peter saves a kid in a nearby building by shielding her with his body and dies. And appears before Thanos and Death with Thanos trying to prove the futility of heroes to him, but Peter is dead and finally at peace..till he realizes the girl he was saving is there too. And there's this moment, where Peter pushes through the peace of finally being free and looks up at Thanos who says, "I know what you're thinking, it'd be foolish." And Peter just says "So what?" and decks him.

I'll be honest, this is the kind of revelation that has kept me alive when I've been at the brink. Just like Peter, our lives affect all of the people around us. Good or bad. Meaningfully or accidentally. Humanity itself is a web of complex, intricate connections. The loss of a single thread, a single life, impacts every thread it has touched and could touch. It's by remembering the people I love that I keep going. It hurts hard when I lose a loved one, so I don't want to cause that to others. Everyone has a beach full of people they've impacted in their lives, some in ways they will never know. But only by living can we see how far that beach really goes. Keep spinning your web, fellow spiders.

I dont even think the one above all was there to ensure he kept being spider man. I think he was just there to show him reality. Due to all of his suffering, Peters view of reality was becoming skewed. It would be ashame of he gave up not fully realising the true importance of his role. However, any decision he makes after realising this would be acceptable; whether he chooses to give up or continue. I don't think the one above all would ever force him or anyone else to be a hero. That seems to completely contradict his functioning. He could remove all choice and all suffering simultaneously: he doesnt.

Ruthlessly beat the living shit out of the guy and left with the promise to be back and fill his lungs with webbing if May didn't make it. Insert that moment in the story then follow up with this and I think it'd be pretty good.

Two things: First, I really hope stories like this resonate with comic fans who try to reduce the importance of characters to the same tired who-can-beat-up-who arguments about “power levels”. Good guys have better things to do than murder each other. Second, look at doctors, soldiers, cops, CIA spies and more…because they live this every day. I spent a lot of days during my deployments in awe of certain people who are perpetually wanting to just quit and go home, but can’t make themselves do it. I suspect a lot of their darkest moments reflect a deep need for someone to prove that there’s a point to it all. Plenty of lawyers don’t drive fancy cars, and many of the cases they take make them want to give up on humanity entirely(like the ones who try to help normal people fight massive corporations). Peter Parker, Superman, Steve Rogers and many real life heroes are just people who want to help. There are many people like that, but they’re still rare.

This comment will 99% just get buried across the sea of comments, but I kind of understand *why* a lot of Spiderman's comics are always so sad for Peter. It's easy to just look and say "wow, the writers must really hate Spiderman. They're always ruining his life in the comics" but every time I think of what else to write the comic around I can't think of anything. It's boring to have him just always win and be perfect, but you can't just give him the same treatment as the other characters; it just doesn't work with his character. I think the most important part of his character is his humanity, how under the mask and powers and responsibilities he's just someone who wants to be good. He never asked to be Spiderman, he never asked to have his powers, but he still accepts his responsibility and helps everyone he can. I love comics like this one because they just show how much he's done for others, and how much his selflessness and sense of responsibility has helped others. Sorry about the long comment, just wanted to share my thoughts 😅 if you for some reason actually gave me, a random Internet stranger your precious time, thank you and I hope you have a good day :)
