Want to leave low stakes poker behind? Join our 28 Day Bootcamp here: www.hungryhors...
If you're new to our channel, we are Marc Goone (the guy in the videos) and Gethen Jacobs (the guy who doesn't enjoy being in videos), and we are the co-founders of Hungry Horse Poker. Here's our background:
Marc began playing live poker in 2015 and built his initial bankroll playing $1/2 live. In 2017 he began playing full time in LA, where he quickly climbed stakes to the biggest publicly accessible games ($10/20/40). He began commentating for Live at the Bike and Hustler Casino Live, which allowed him to play as big as $200/400.
Gethen began playing online poker over a decade ago where he worked his way up from $7 Sit 'N Go's to $5k Turbos. During the pandemic he mostly played 1k and 2knl cash games online and won north of 8bb/100. He also began to play some of the largest private games in LA, where he regularly played as big as $400/800.
Gethen and Marc met in 2021, and quickly bonded over a shared approach to the game. In late 2022, they began offering 28 Day Bootcamps to help serious players climb to high stakes just like them, and Hungry Horse was born.
DISCLOSURE
We make these videos to make money, but on a longer time horizon. We want beginner and intermediate players to learn from these videos and start winning NOW, so when they are ready to climb to high stakes they come to Hungry Horse to take the next step.

You know what blows me away, this isn't just some of the best hand analysis on the Internet, it's also delivered in a teaching format that makes this strategy repeatable. You repeat yourself constantly in these videos, talking through each hand in the same basic way, which cements the muscle memory for viewers working on their street by street decision making

I love the vids, been watching all of them. The pacing is great and your personality comes through right along with the hand reading. Really amazing channel honestly. My only ask is if you can put the double board bomb pots as bonus hands bit at the end. I'm finding myself skipping through them and coming back later. It kind of pulls the focus away from the strategy talk imo.

$65 an hour is super solid at low stakes high raked games. It's tough to do - when I did 2/5 I had about 7000 hours at around $45 an hour so it's better than my win rate. That said, I still think those double board bomb pots are pulling you miles ahead of the average 2/5 game. I spent 2 weeks in texas playing them, and my win-rate catapulted playing soft 1/2 and 2/5 games - I did over $6k in profit in 2 weeks - even contemplated moving there, but I never did - but do like to take trips there from time to time.

The bombs may be a great way to improve winrate but the truth is Marc is not very good at them. He overvalues marginal hands with little opportunity to improve and fails to consider the reverse implied odds of runouts that will nut other players. At my local we have a bomb only game, and in that game he would be considered a fish
@eldad4446
@eldad4446 Ай бұрын
@@yuhyuhtheindigo7085 Doesn't mater, the players he plays against are so bad you can be a mediocre omaha player and print. I study a lot of Omaha and Omaha GTO on JNandez site and it doesn't really help much at stakes this low since all the pots are multiway but it helps a little. He's gonna need a lot of run good to keep an hourly up- but i've seen people sun run for 2000 hours so it can be done. If you just nut peddle the omaha hands - someone will pay you off. I agree he screws up some of them but it hardly maters.

Nice video series. I just noticed the updates that you started putting at the top of the videos. I was thinking I hadn't noticed it before, then realized it was a new addition to the videos. I am commenting because there is an error on your totals at the end of the video. The total that you show at the end of session 2 are the same as the totals at the end of session 1. It shows 242 hours 31 minutes, +$15,560, $64.16/hr. The correct totals should be: 251 hours 28 minutes, +$16,912 , $67.25/hr. I wanted to thank you for these videos. I am usually an ABC player, but using some of your strategies, instead of winning $150-$200 in my weekly game, I won $615 last week!! It was a blast. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you,!

Just found your content and love the way you do commentary. Weird to jump from ep 7 to ep 16 to comment and see it is pretty similar total winnings, but that’s variance. I’m not sure how they go ep 8-16, but your winnings off PLO bomb pots were at least 4.5-5k in the first 7 episodes (I was lazy and just totaled it by looking at numbers and halving the pot for wins/losses and counting chops as net 0, which with dead money and multiway pots is WAY under valuing your winnings and over estimating losses in PLO bomb pots). If those numbers continued over the next 8 episodes I’m really curious if you think you even clear 50/hr over the 200 or so hours without PLO pots. Definitely highlights how important the as you said “this game isn’t my best game” game is to winning because players study and play the game they showed up for, but are just bad at the game they don’t study so your edge is magnified. Love the content, thanks for putting this out!

Maybe I'm an idiot but I would just fold to the 50$ bet in the bomb pot when the 6 comes in for a possible quads. You got 5 players in the hand, all of them have 4 cards. Easy fo any one of them to have a 6 and you have nothing going on on the other board. So you're fighting for half the pot in a spot where you're just dead to a 6 and they can super easily have one. On the assumption that if they did have a 6 they would bet the flop... I don't think they would. If it's not a strong 6 and they have nothing going on in they other board, they're in a similar situation where they're fighting for half the pot and losing to any other player with a better 6 Which is definitely a possibility. So I think most players would check and hope to fill out on the turn before taking aggressive action.

@PhilipJReed-db3zc Ай бұрын
8:18 Marc, you are an excellent hold'em teacher analyzing PLO hands like a HE player and I suspect it's starting to catch up with you. You do not have a strong hand on both boards here. An OESD on a board with a two-flush you don't have is a dubious 6-out draw subject to losing to river redraws (flush or board pair, but in this case some of the board pairs could be good for you).Top and bottom helps a little more than usual because of the extra jack up top cutting down on JT but "strong hand" is a bit much, more like fragile made hand and weak draw. Top two (top board) is a tricky hand to value in PLO. Much of its value comes from blocking the top two sets. Anyway it's possible you have the best hand on both boards here but they are both hands that are hard to make hold up until the river and so few bad players are folding in these bomb pots. There may be a case to be made for the XR to protect a marginal hand, but that's not what you're verbalizing in the video. I think you were winning a lot at DBBP as of a couple of weeks ago, not sure now. That could be a combination of PLO variance through the roof and much of the player pool being atrocious. I think you said you don't really like PLO, but it's such a big part of your videos that you need to find a PLO coach either for you or to vet the content.
@danradke98275
@danradke98275 Ай бұрын
Throughout the series he has actually played these hands a bit suspect I think and has gotten a ton of +EV from atrocious players dumping their stacks while not knowing what they're doing. I've never seen him mention the concept of a push/pull hand, and a few times he's declared top boat as the nuts when quads are easily available, etc.

The issue is that these pots make up over 1/3 of the time playing as they take longer as usual hands. At least I think that is what Marc said. If he excluded them he would also shorten his win rate (or he needs to adjust winrate with some calculations)

I don't have a problem with him including them. But some of his reasoning isn't great coaching for PLO or for split pots games. This suggests he's running pretty good, although NLHE opponents are so absolutely terrible at these that *any* adaptation at all makes him one of the better DBBP players at the table. Also for those of us who live somewhere without them, it makes the $100 benchmark kind of useless in our non-BP games since it's apples and oranges.
@NeuroticNOOB
@NeuroticNOOB Ай бұрын
@billthecanuck me too but it seems to be quite the effort to measure time and money won in these pots separately. We'll he recorded it all so it should be possible to calculate them out of the winrate...(I mean adjusting the winrate per hour by actually just counting time spent on holdem and money won in holdem pots).
