rec player here with ~1700h live, playing 5/5 and winning 7bb/h. been taking notes on what I find useful/not useful: - i like the betsizes you choose to goad out "the weak shit vs the strong shit" - i also like 3betting more to iso fish when in position. i play too tight and too "standard" to have considered this but I think this is definitely more profitable than my approach. - not a fan of the overbets, especially your approach which is heavily unbalanced. in previous videos you say not to focus on balance and i'm not convinced especially with overbets. players can be recreational but they aren't dumb. they will take note of the fact that you can overbet and that you are bluffy. they'll also call you down light or trap. you can win many small/medium pots with overbets but you won't win enough to offset the times you lose. i could see a world where you refine this strategy to make it profitable, but as played it is the largest leak that i see in your vlogs. happy to be proven wrong in your upcoming videos, afterall i am no crusher with my measly 7bb/h, def taking notes!!

hey stephen - highly recommend you check out our video on river sizing (Why Your River Bluff & Value Sizes Should NOT Be the Same) for more insight into the overbets. i use overbets for value when my opponent has a strong range which i think is unlikely to fold. i use overbets as bluffs when my opponent has a weak, capped range. there is no generic one size fits all "BIG BET = BLUFF" strategy happening here, it's a lot more nuanced. i've chosen to walk on this tightrope my entire poker career because i strongly believe this is the way to outrageous winrates. sometimes i look like a dummy, and i'm ok with that.
@stephenchyau64863 ай бұрын
@@hungryhorsepokerthanks for the insight and response. I’ve watched that video in the past, I will watch again as a refresher. I like how you call this a tightrope because it feels like that’s where the skill is. I’ve had this unfounded ego thinking I’m a 10bb+/h player but I’ve been humbled at 7bb/h, so I’m really looking at these videos for insights on how to climb the ranks. Maybe overbetting like you do, is the way, jury is still out for me 👍

Best live content by a mile btw. In the 99cx hand I agree that ranges are capped when x too otr. Do you think pot-750 (1.5x) accomplishes anything different than 930 (almost 2x)? Personally I believe pot-1.5x accomplishes the same thing in folding out the non flushes range we’re targeting to fold and saves us a bit in the very very off chance that someone is checking a flush. I approach this spot similarly in that it’s a green light to range bluff and than think what’s the sizing I need to get to fold out non flushes. How do you determine your sizing thresholds here otr versus general pop?

Was thinking about it the AA hand from the perspective of the guy with the other two aces… how deep would you have to be to not call here because he HAS the ace of spades, what in the world are you putting the other two players on? Especially if you’re deep and he recognizes you as a good player. I feel like I would be miserable with aces in that spot if I was deeper. (Looked like he had 840 behind so it wasn’t that big of a deal) Is my thinking way too nitty there?

Marc the advantage you have over us mortal for-profit players is that you KNOW you can shit on low stakes players, and not every day you will lose with AA to both AA and KK (or a rivered 86s wtf). Me, after a losing session (even if it was all coolers), I feel like a piece of shit, and so next time I'm more likely to play my B/C game rather than my A game (I'm aware and try to meditate,study, remind myself that good players like you also have big losing sessions but I didn't find a perfect solution). The K8spade hand I don’t think you played it wrong. Your opponent could have pot controlled with AK trying to see your reaction especially you have a low kicker which you want to see what he will do on the river as well if he checks the river that’s a safe green light to get value from any pocket pairs. 200 I think is the almost maximum your opponent will most likely pay you off if you came up with a pot size there is a chance he would fold and lost value. At least for me I would have fold on the turn even a bet of penny
