I have the same money belt! It's great for wallet, passport and even my phone. I also have an older Anker power bank, which is heavy, but it works. My biggest bit of advice is to use what you already have. It's tempting to want to buy newer and shinier things for travel, but if you have something that already does the trick, keep it until it wears out.

My 25L expandable backpack was gate checked last night by United, because I was in zone 4, and even before zone 3 finished boarding, there was an announcement saying all bags now had to be gate checked. Lol. So you have to try to be in earlier zones if possible, I guess. Sucks. But I’m taking an even smaller backpack next time and definitely keeping away from suitcases as I have been. If it can’t fit under seat, it’s not worth it anymore for average travellers.

I always travel with two powerbanks because then I don't have to worry about the locations of the outlets. I often go on 3-4 night trips to see friends or relatives and the sleeping arragements vary from guest room to couch or a mattress on the floor. There might not be an outlet close by. No matter what the place is, I can leave my power banks anywhere in the house to charce up and use them to charge my phone, headphones, and watch when ever I need to. I also carry at least two pairs of headphones, over the ear and in-ear ones, sometimes even a second pair of in-ear ones. Thats just me being paranoid about being left without working headphones. Ever since my first walkman in 1987, headphones have been my permanate travel companion and I fear the day I lose them 😆.

For anyone who wears glasses or sunglasses regularly- an extra collapsible or foldable eyeglass case. You need it on the plane/bus/train if you want to nap, at the beach, at the pool. Somehow I always forget to put my regular case in reach so I leave the foldable case in my day bag permanently.

Great tips! We use the waterproof bags as compression containers for our clothes instead of compression cubes. They are amazing and saves so much room. We use the same plug adapter and similar rain jackets, very handy for lots of reasons. Our power banks for our iPhones are iWalks, no cord required to attach it to your phone. Our water bottles of choice are 9 oz. Swell bottles. They are a great size and keep water cold for up to 24 hours. We also take 7 oz. spillproof travel mugs, keeping the contents hot for hours. It's small and fits a triple cappuccino perfectly! Another thing we never travel without is a mini iPad for many reasons, as well as our custom made first aid kit that is basically a pharmacy and surgery in one, all in a canvas bag 6" x 3" x 3". We also pack a very small plastic cutting board and our plastic travel cutlery sets, comes in very handy! we tend to purchase fresh lemons when we travel to put into our water bottles.

The daypack is also a great back up "personal item" in cases where you brought home a few too many souvenirs and you're just over the carry-on weight limit for your airline! Just take the heavy items out of your main carry-on, stuff em in the daypack, and you're good to go!

An additional item I always take is a rechargeable headlamp. I like the headlamp as opposed to a flashlight as it allows both of my hands to be free. I also take a spare rechargeable battery. Plenty of darkness in international travel or power failures, etc

100 percent. I also travel with a headlamp. I have a Petzl lamp with 3 levels of white light and a red light to protect your night vision. Rechargeable battery lasts a long time. I have a little case for it that turns it into a nightstand light. I never leave home without it.

If I am travelling alone internationally, I always bring a decoy wallet with small bills that would cover drinks and snacks. Don't put any IDs. Of course my real wallet is in my money belt. So if someone gets the wallet, it wouldn't affect our trip. I just use any old wallet and stuff em with loose paper to make it look full.

I travelled solo as a female in Tanzania last year. I did a modified version of this as well! I carried a simple daypack/backpack while exploring Arusha and its markets, but I carried in my hand a little zippered decorative "coin" purse (well a little bigger than that) but 4x5" in size with a little handle string. I carried the equivalent of about USA $20 in here plus coins, maybe a lip balm, wet wipe, a few tissues. I just carried it and could easily pull out a little money for the tuk tuk ride or little things at the market without fumbling into my backpack. It was great! Meanwhile, I had my credit cards on a little Pacsafe (purchased at REI) pouch that hung from the middle of my bra under my shirt. As for a passport, I was advised to get a copy of my STAMPED passport (meaning the arrival into Tanzania) and carry just that around - not the actual passport that I kept safe back in the hotel.) This is something I had not considered before leaving - that previous copies of my passport made before arrival might not be 'legit'. It was a little extra effort to get that photocopy done locally, but again worth it. In addition to all of the great essentials already listed, I too carry some kind of clothes line, a tiny bit of dish wash soap, a small rag/bandana. I totally agree with the sarong scarf suggestion - huge! The new one I learned is some chopsticks. What I would really love is a way to keep water cold. I'm American and you all know how much we love our ice 😂. We're traveling as a family of 4 to either Thailand or Turkey/Greece next summer. I just love my insulated water bottle that keeps water cold but fearing its bulk. Someone needs to invent some kind of USP contraption. Let me know if you have any ideas!

I’ve been watching your videos for several months now and enjoy them immensely. I want to thank you for mentioning the Goodr sun glasses. I like them so much I now own two pairs. They’re inexpensive with great lenses that seem to make the world brighter instead of darker when wearing. And they’re really comfortable and stay in place when sweating (i.e. playing golf in 90 F weather.)

I use the Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Dry Day Pack. It's super lightweight and you can pretty much stuff it anywhere. I usually always put it in my sling or waist pack. Because it's waterproof I've stored my tech gear in it when it rains and I've even washed my clothes in it when I didn't have access to a washer. It's not great for long hikes, but it has saved me numerous times. I used to use a dry bag but it was too bulky and limited in use. Secondly, I also always bring a UV buff with me. I use it when I forget to put sunscreen on my neck and head. I've soaked it in water to cool me down in hot conditions. Also use to to take naps or when it's chilly outside. Very versatile piece of gear.

I've been using a half inch ring notebook for years. Have the sections, air, car, hotel, food, & misc. I use misc for things I have researched and want to see and do. Recently have been taking a small spiral notepad to write down things of my trip as I do them. Never heard of a UV purifier, so have tablets with me for this trip since I'm going to Mexico.

I love my Osprey waterproof 20L stuff pack. BEVLEDGE for flights (window seat only) creates more tray room. Samsung super fast charge qi charger handles my phone, watch, and Buds2Pro. Ultralight THERMOS is a must (serves hot/cold). For long haul flights, I bring a 1.5L Osprey horizontal lumbar water bladder and a fanny pack/sling. Peak Design packing cubes are first choice. My one bag travel choice is Samantha Brown Essential Carry-All (a great affordable alternative to PAKT, Bento bag). Nitecore 10k ultralight powerbank. 6‐in-1 charging cable. A MUST is a sleep mask!! Sawyer tap filter goes domestically and internationally. Phillips Go bottle/filters are the lightweight water bottle of choice. (For outdoor/international trips...I bite the weight bullet and take my Grayl bottle). Bottom line, lightweight and multiple functionality is key.

You have to be careful with compression packing cubes. The illusion is that you can pack so much more, but in reality you get to security and you find out that you are now overweight. I always have a lightweight portable luggage scale I use at home and carry with me. I check my weight as I pack to make sure I’m in guidelines with airlines both domestic and international.

Excellent video thx! My opinion on fashion, Never ever wear a heather gray t-shirt. It looks like you're a sweaty mess from working out even when it's brand new and you just put it on for the first time, you look grungy in a light to medium grey t-shirt, like you're on your way to gym class.

Do you automatically go to a pharmacy after you've landed in a new country to buy a disposable razor? I'm going to be doing carry on for the first time and will be flying to two different countries. I think each country I will have to do this because of TSA rules about anything sharp

Disposable razors can be taken into most countries. I have never had a razor removed from my carryon luggage. I travel to Asia, Africa, Europe and within the United States frequently as a flight attendant. Fyi...Disposable plastics are more expensive in some countries as they are not sustainable.

Here is a tip and another reason to always have a power bank. If you must plug in to a public charger at the airport to top off your device, plug the power bank into the public charger and plug your phone into the power bank. If the public charger is tainted, that will not get through the power bank to your phone or tablet.

You can buy adapters that remove the data line from charging cables, for use on "suspect" public charging stations. So it only allows electricity to pass to your device, and not data out from your device. A 2 pack is like $10 US or less. Also a must have.

I never understood tacking a water bottle, it takes too much room. Water is usually supplied by airlines & in rooms, these bottles can be refilled. Water purifier is not required in developing countries as water is cheap to buy there. Anyway that is the way I do it.
