Learn something new every day... That's the first time in 20 years of working on rides I've seen individual train cars running. I have run trains on woodies without the bodies on before, just the bare rolling chassis and they just barely make it round even after a good number of laps.

great work again, brilliant viewpoints and camera work as always. although im confused, thought the streak only runs on 1 car service due to its age, but yet they can throw 2 cars round on it for testing but not on busy day were the ques are 1hr+? wish i hadnt seen that now ha ha, although looked great in sync ! tbh about the grand national re-track, great news and hope it really improves the ride, although for me , everyone keeps going about how rough it is, i dont think it is-its always been that way? maybe if you live near and you go to the park every month or whatever you might feel it more, but i dont think its any rougher than from when i was a wee guy in the 80's to what it is now. In fact, my step son who is 12 had never been on ANY coaster untill 2 yrs ago and he tried the grand national for 1st time last season(having building him up carefully) and after the 1st ride he was like again again again, jeez next thing we are on it 5 times on a row im hardcore and i was like errrmmm thats enough now. so cant be that bad if it entices, thrills and demands instant re-rides from a wee lad who is a coaster greenhorn. Although is great its being tracked again and have the life extended as its an amazing ride, brilliant if one side of your family is on the other car.
@yourexperienceguide2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, really appreciate the feedback! Nickelodeon Streak only has one train, it's the same train in shot at different points at the same time, the shots were filmed from my tripod so there was absolutely no camera movement which meant I could create the effect of it having two trains on at the same time. It would be unsafe for them to be dispatched that closely together. I'm absolutely certain the Grand National will be a hundred times more enjoyable in 2022.

Hello
@crooked-halo2 жыл бұрын
I do not like the modifications and replacements of the trains on Blackpool's three big wood coasters! They’ve damaged the ride experience. All 3 were so much better in the mid 80s, Grand National with normal, unmolested PTCs, Big Dipper with the same, and Roller Coaster (Nickelodeon Streak…terrible name) with the beautiful, unique, classic trains it had!
@yourexperienceguide2 жыл бұрын
Big Dipper's trains are the same trains as it had in the early 90's, they just have a different livery. RollerCoaster's train was originally a Big Dipper spare, it was changed in 2007. Grand National's were changed in 2006, just under 2 years after its fire.
@crooked-halo2 жыл бұрын
@@yourexperienceguide All three big wood coasters have added ratcheting lap bars and increased the height of the sides of the cars. These modifications, although seen minor by many, and likely not even noticed by the public, are things that have heavily damaged the ride experiences to many roller coaster hobbyists. Grand National received minor profile changes that greatly reduced the amount of airtime the coaster once had.
@yourexperienceguide2 жыл бұрын
@@crooked-halo I'm aware that they all had the old school trains with no lapbars, but they were changed late 80's/early 90's and have been very much the same style since. Roller had its old style trains through to 2006/7 but they had to be changed, blame HSE not the Pleasure Beach. RollerCoaster improved significantly when the train was changed altogether, it went from being quite dull to one of the more thrilling rides at the park. Grand National's layout to my knowledge hasn't changed.
@johnmelling99502 жыл бұрын
That's BS about the train needing to run in before it can complete the circuit. The wheels are adjusted slightly after each run to be as tight as possible to the track without creating too much resistance.
@yourexperienceguide2 жыл бұрын
It’s clearly not BS, did you watch the video? The train was taking a push over one of the final hills, this was done on several of the hills after the 4th drop at the start of the process. Also, the carriage did not stop for long enough between completing a circuit and starting again to have anything tightened.
@johnmelling99502 жыл бұрын
@@yourexperienceguide it clearly is BS. What do you envisage happening to the wheels and track after the car goes around the circuit a few times that would alter its rolling resistance to the extent that it goes from not completing the circuit to completing it? The wheels are adjustable and can be made tighter or looser to the track. It's likely that car had the wheels removed over the off season or even replaced and they were in the process of resetting them. It takes literally seconds to do.
@danielbooth29822 жыл бұрын
@@johnmelling9950 you are incorrect in your understanding John, it's a running in process which really is as simple as warming components up to allow them to run at optimum speeds. In my job I have to study coefficients of friction and their responses to thermal conductivity as regards to tyre temperatures on vehicles and cylinder and piston interaction during warm up phases on engines. They are running in and warming up the ride, most other parks do this as well. The wheel adjustment and compounds are one thing and warming up is another. It's all in the video as the guy said and there really is not much to it, just simple principles.
@johnmelling99502 жыл бұрын
@@danielbooth2982 absolute nonsense. Yes warming up can have an effect on rolling resistance and that's why rides do feel slightly faster once they have completed a few circuits but not to the extent that would be accepted as a deciding factor on the train completing the circuit. Think about what you are saying, its laughable. It would require the train never leave the station unless the wheels were above a critical temperature. That would NEVER pass health and safety regulations and every morning would be a massive job just to get the cars ready for the first riders with technicians having to push them around the final bits of track multiple times. It would also mean that every time there was a delay in the train leaving the station and the wheels cooled, the cars would not complete the circuit. Let's not even get into operating the ride on a really cold day. The ride was being set up in the video after mainteinance in the off season with the wheel clearances being adjusted after each circuit. You want the wheels as tight as possible for smoothness but also slack enough to overcome variations in the track on the entire circuit.
@danielbooth29822 жыл бұрын
@@johnmelling9950 if that was the case then in the 90 odd years they've been running the Dipper you'd think that they'd have found a way to get the wheels "somewhere near" when adjusting instead of having to push the thing round by hand. You would also like to think that they wouldn't mess around with just a single carriage. It's all about friction warming up both the track and wheels John.
