ONE Championship Boss: 'We've crushed (the UFC in Asia), completely crushed them'

While the UFC has struggled to gain a foothold in Asian markets, in just six short years, ONE Championship has become the top fight promotion in the Eastern world.
As the head of ONE Championship, Chatri Sityodtong, has had some harsh words for the UFC, but they are not without warrant. Aside from the UFC not seeming to comprehend the culture in Asian markets, Sityodtong says that the MMA juggernaut of the Western world has been disrespectful not only to ONE Championship, but Asia and Asians in general.
"MMA is the bloodsport aspect (of martial arts) that the West has promoted. Martial arts is really what Asians promote," Sityodtong told MMAWeekly.com.
"If I have strong words for the UFC, it's because they came (to Singapore) last year and were very disrespectful to Asia, Asians, and ONE Championship. That's not the best way to market yourself if you're a foreign property.
"We've crushed them, completely crushed them."

Asian MMA fighters would prefer signing up for ONE FC because they like less publicity, at least most of them. They don't want the sports to come take over their lives. They wanna be able to fight and not be buggered by reporters when they go back home. That's just Asian. It's just plain uncomfortable to throw threatening words at your opponent because you don't wanna be embarassed when you lose. Shame and embarassment is a big thing in Asia. The UFC is just as authentic as any other organization. There is no written rules for what makes the sport “authentic” UFC also doesn’t encourage anyone to do anything other than bring in fans and money, plenty of fighters don’t trash talk at all and are still very successful in the UFC. One FC is filled with guys who are most likely on steroids anyway so the legitimacy of the promotion one Fc is shaky. If it wasn’t for the UFC there would be no other promotions because the UFC humanized the entire sport

I think Dana is starting to have Pride flashbacks. ONE isn't there yet, but if they keep finding those nice stashes of cash they can keep signing big names. And using Kickboxing and Muay Thai bouts and championships to attract talent from those sports is a great idea in an era in MMA where the unified rule set gives huuuge advantages to strong wrestlers even allowing them to succeed without particularly impressive striking.

Advantage of UFC over One 1. Size of fighters 2. Famous Names 3. Where this numbers come from? lol while it's true UFC value worth 10 billions, while ONE value 1 billions, why the average fighters in one getting paid better than ufc? I never heard any fighters in one complaining about money, unlike in ufc haha one is just much more affordable and accessible to wider audience, while ufc getting paid alot from the western viewers with their pay per view models. One also has ppv models, but only in limited occasions and not expensive. So if you solely counts on the dollars income, ufc models may generate more. But One somehow able to generate enough money to have better production, better treatment for athletes and more audiences. So i guess one organization is more honest than the other

I've been to a lot of job interviews and attempted to network with many executives, and I can say for sure this guy will go out of his way to control me. He reminds me alot of WWE's Triple H minus the insecurity (it's obvious in this interview). Not gonna judge his work though. I've been to a ONE FC show last 2016: very affordable tickets and the production value is way ahead of UFC's old-school boxing atmosphere. He is 'fighting' for a gigantic Asian market and I can imagine the stress (and excitement) day in, day out. And there's the politics and market barriers.. One fc is a great promotion, although I think people are overhyping its skill level. Brandon Vera came into one fc losing 4 out of his last 5 fights in the ufc, and when he goes to one fc all of a sudden he's the champ and he's mirking everyone in the first round. Same goes with Ben Askren, who mostly won by decision in Bellator, but is finishing all the one fc fighters in the first round. And don't get me wrong, Ben is probably one of the best welterweights on the planet, he'd easily be in the top 5-10 in the ufc welterweight division, but the reason for one fc's success is it's appeal to the asian market/reading the cultural landscape, not because it has the best fighters. Right now it's skill level is probably about the same as Bellator/PFL. Although this could change in the next few decades of course, if one fc continues to grow as it has.
