Just so you know, ONE banned kicks to the head of a downed opponent a while ago, they still allow knees though. also a notable difference is that MMA fights are scored as whole in ONE rather than round by round. I started to watch ONE for the MMA and I stayed for the Muay Thai and Kickboxing, especially the fact that all their Muay Thai fights are in MMA gloves, and what fight fan doesn't want that? I mean its basically "stand and bang" mode on EA UFC 3. I love watching fighters like Rodtang, Nong-O, Phetmorrakot and Yodsanklai just to name a few and they can adapt so god damn well to the MMA gloves. I get just as excited for big Muay Thai fights in ONE as I do for any big UFC fight, heck I was more excited for Rodtang vs Haggerty 2 than I am for McGregor vs Cowboy, and as expected, Rodtang vs Haggerty 2 was incredible. I wholeheartedly recommend ONE just for the Muay Thai
@jackfin212
@jackfin212 4 жыл бұрын
I think small glove muay thai has the potential to be just as big as mma and the ufc, if promoted here in the USA. If the money was there, Im sure many high level ufc athletes would even prefer to fight under the muay thai rule set, as it's basically just standing mma. I'm the same as you and can't get enough of it. Best thing since sliced bread.
@sweetbonesmma
@sweetbonesmma 4 жыл бұрын
@@jackfin212 while that is my basically my fantasy I think the problem is, only the UFC could set something like that into motion in America and of course it would be a massive hit and everybody would crave more of it and as a result ONE's small glove muay thai fights and champions would skyrocket in popularity too, and I think most fans would come to the reasonable conclusion that the muay thai fighters in ONE are higher level strikers than the UFC guys crossing over to muay thai for the thrills. I think a ONE muay thai title would become more prestigious than a UFC muay thai title. And that's a whole lot scarier for the UFC than the current situation where there isn't any direct competition that the UFC doesn't dominate. Bit pessimistic but on the bright side Phetmorrakot vs Yusopov is coming up soon for the new featherweight title, so at least there is gonna be more to get excited for in the world of small glove muay thai
@jackfin212
@jackfin212 4 жыл бұрын
@@sweetbonesmma Actually I was thinking about how I'd prefer the rule-set to be more standing mma than muay thai. I think the elements there, such as things like more available technique for throws/trips/sweeps (like judo throws and slams and certain wrestling takedowns etc), maybe the clinch let go longer/indefinitely as long as it's active, different options available in the clinch etc etc, could maybe help even the playing field between current muay thai fighters and mma fighters. Also this would really be just an early generational problem, and if popular, would have people training for it full time from the start. But in the mean time, the ufc or a company like it could just buy up some muay thai talent themselves. There is a tremendous reserve of untapped talent in Thailand for any international market. ONEfc only has a couple of great guys really, and I'm not even sure how exclusive their contracts are anyway. There are many thai fighters of equal or much better skills that could be acquired by the ufc. They'd never have to worry about being inferior to ONE. Plus, the ufc could also likely pretty easily even aquire OneFc's talent whenever their contracts end. The ufc would definitely surpass OneFc's striking talent pool if they got in the game. The ufc could quickly become the promotion with both the most elite mma fighters AND the most elite international pure striking. I also believe there is ample talent available in Thailand even for regular mma too. I've been saying for years, if I was Dana white or similarly rich, id sponsor a number of young thai muay thai champs, like 17 18 19 years old but with a ton of elite striking experience already and a body built for the sport, bring them to the UFC performance institute gym in the USA, form a camp with elite coaches, and have them mostly train diligently in takedown defense and defensive grappling etc and combing it all, for like a solid year or two or more. Then bring them into the ufc and absolutely take over the lower weightclasses. But now if I was Dana id definitely just do what onefc is doing, with the UFC. Have a mixed card with mma and muay thai. Aquire some great already proved thai talent just for that. Instant success and immediate popularity and return on investment.

I think it also depends on the cultural differences & visa issue. In Asia, bad blood or trash talking can kill your career, but in the UFC, those things are what made the fights & the fighters so famous, help them sell millions of PPV. Most of us Vietnamese adults even have a same mindset like "Why risk myself competing in such a violent sport to make money, while can sit in an office and earn the same amount?".Seriously MMA in Asia is still not as widely accepted as in the West, and that hurts the scene a lot.
@badfoody

though that sells fights, trash talking has consequences that all exploded during the Khabib and Mcgregor brawl. Keep in mind One has three types of fights that fighters can compete: MMA, Kickboxing, and Muay Thai. Some fighters in One can possibly defeat UFC fighters if its in a straight up Muay Thai fight (look at great muay thai fighters such as rodtang, sangmanee) but if its just MMA then you gotta give it to the guys in UFC. Both Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Alvarez has also crossed over to ONE to compete so we may be seeing more crossovers in the future. PS. Its rebranded to One Championship now rather than One FC.

Being a martial artist from the Philippines, I really wish that One FC would start promoting their fighters the way UFC does. There are some that I idolize so much- mostly those from Team Lakay- that are ELITE strikers. I'd even wager Eduard Folayang could take on McGregor... And I say that as a fan of Conor. Yet even though the Philippines has Eduard Folayang, not many actually know of him. In Philippines, if you went out in the street and asked if they knew Folayang, very few would say yes. Only other martial artists know of his greatness.

It depends on the weight class. I actually think one talent in 125 and 135 is just as deep as the UFC. However 155 and up the UFC beats one. Better talent is driven to the UFC because it’s more established as a sport in the U.S., with better and more training facilities. Plus we’re closer to to Brazil so more Brazilian will fight in the UFC, which has a huge talent pool. One has been quickly catching up tho and I don’t see many fighters in one that would roll over too easily.

Hello Ramsey! I have a question. In short: How does one train with somebody who weighs only 2/3s of you? At the moment, I focus on BJJ/Grappling, but where I live, there is only two lessons a week that teach it. I have a willing training partner however: my girlfriend. She weighs 60kg (=130 pounds), while I weigh 90kg(198). Eventhough the classes are not often, I would still like to improve. How would I train with her in a way that would minimize the bad behaviour I could adapt by rolling with someone who weighs so much less? Is there anything we both could do to improve our ability besides rolling with each other? Thanks for reading!

I have a question! My eyesight is none too good- I'm very nearsighted. I considered contacts, but I'm unsure how safe those are in sparring. I was considering learning how to box and wrestle, but without good eyesight, I can't see much. Do you have any advice?
@RamseyDewey
@RamseyDewey 4 жыл бұрын
You don’t need your eyes at all to grapple. That an excellent starting point. I’m partially blind in one eye, and even before that, I was extremely near sighted. Corrective lenses just get in the way when you spar. As far as striking goes- you need to focus on motion from your peripheral vision instead of details from the front of your eyes.

For me, I want to know the difference in fighting level between OneFC and UFC. "By saying in any given day, ...", it doesn't explain that. One helpful hypothetical question would be if 10 of the top fighters of every weight class of each promotion fought one another, what would be the outcome? Recently, Sityodtong stated that the fighters in "lighter divisions have an edge" in OneFC but in heavier weight classes, UFC has the edge. Another question: Since UFC, as one brand, has established itself longer (1993) and OneFC started in 2011, is OneFC growing at a faster rate than UFC? Or is UFC like Amazon and OneFC is like Target (in terms of online retail) so OneFC won't be able to catch up in the foreseeable future?
@RamseyDewey
@RamseyDewey 2 жыл бұрын
One FC technically started in 2009, but they used to go by the name “Martial Combat”. If you want a frank answer: UFC fighters, generally speaking, are better. But the rules are different (unified rules vs global rules) and OneFC also hosts Muay Thai fights (with MMA gloves) so it’s almost like comparing two different sports.

James Franko idk Mighty Mouse is arguably one of the best in his weight class and yes he’s doing great in ONE FC but It definitely doesn’t look like a cake walk. He’s had some pretty tough fights. I don’t think the fighters in one fc are that far behind. I mean especially in that weight class where most of the Asian fighters are going to be he’s been cleaning up but not steam rolling like some would suggest.

You forgot to mention Pat Miletich, he'd have been a perfect name to drop as IMO he isn't much to watch in a lot of ways but a spectacular tactician IMO (and though I say that he's not much to watch in a lot of ways I still love going back and watching his early UFC fights... for the more intellectual fighter he is an absolute joy to watch). :) Maybe the referee talks to the fighters before as to what he will and won't accept... (???) Yeah, it does sound weird, but so does making it illegal to knee or strike an opponent in the head when he's trying to tackle you either. Lol :)

@@wolfhawk1999 Top One guys are better than average UFC fighters for sure. But somewhere in top 15 UFC kinda runs away with things. Askren was dominant & undefeated in ONE. In UFC if he'd stuck around maybe he had a spot in top 15. Maybe top 10. Not top 5. Some division champs might fair better... but I honestly think DJ is the only ONE guy who doesn't go in a massive underdog to the UFC champ.

What's the best way to train martial arts alone I would go to a gym but their are none around
@sebblackmore3697
@sebblackmore3697 4 жыл бұрын
Tiger Stanek I've trained alone and at gyms. Years ago I started collecting equipment for home use. I started with dumbbells. Eventually got a small standard boxing punch bag. Not so long afterwards and managed to get some crash mats and a skipping rope. Then a full weights bench. I eventually bought a long Thai bag so I could low kick etc etc. The difficult thing about training alone is drilling + repeating techniques over and over again becomes very hard without another body/grappling dummy. Striking isnt as difficult but you dont get use to being hit or being pushed into uncomfortable positions if you're alone. Drilling is the only way for skills to become automatic and natural to perform. I think Bruce Lee said, if your want to be a swimmer how can you get good if you never get into the water.

One fights are more exciting because matches are more explosive probably more mismatched or picked that the contrasting or complimentary styles would make for an entertaining fight. I also speculate that outside the ufc, fighters are easily able to get away with using PEDs making for more entertaining performances for the athletes involved.

@lulospawn
@lulospawn 4 жыл бұрын
I got a question regarding the scope of rules in combat sports. I've heard a lot this concept that the less rules a combat sports have, the most exciting it is. I'm sure that must be true to an extent, but it seems to me that there are certain things that, if allowed, would make the sport unwatchable. For instance, if timidity was allowed, some guy could try tapping a guy once and running away for fifteen minutes. Where do you draw the line?
@RamseyDewey
@RamseyDewey 4 жыл бұрын
Some rules exist specifically to make the sport more exciting. Fights end quickly when fighters have broken hands and cuts over their eyes. That’s why headbutts are fouls and gloves are a thing in the sport of MMA. It has nothing to do with safety- just prolonging the action. Rounds with a one minute break exist for the same reason- to make the sport more exiting for the fans to watch - because it’s more entertaining to watch well rested fighters go at it then to see two tired men who have no more gas in the tank.
