I appreciate your commentary; please take some time to read through this response to gain insight into the user we are targeting and why it may not be as easy as you think to compare to a laptop. Comparable laptops will generally not offer the same performance. To mirror the same performance, you will typically look at the top tier of a laptop ( in the 1800 - 2000+ price points. Why is this? The first point is that, unlike a desktop, not all 4070s are the same as a laptop. This is also the case for the 4060 model. Performance is highly dependent on the thermal design and the power limit, which can vary considerably. Looking at a 4070-enabled laptop, the TGP can be as noted below ( with some configurations not even noted ) GeForce RTX 4070 Mobile 80W = 1395-1695 MHz GeForce RTX 4070 Mobile 100W = 1560-1950 MHz GeForce RTX 4070 Mobile 105W = 1605-1980 MHz GeForce RTX 4070 Mobile 115W = 2070-2175 MHz And with Dynamic Boost, it can go higher. The ROG NUC focuses on offering the best performance in this respect while being much quieter. In addition, you will not find laptops with this much IO or storage expansion. Even memory is only sometimes applicable, with many laptops having only a single DIMM slot. The ROG NUC supports three PCIe NVMe M.2 SSDs, and both DIMMs can be upgraded. Beyond that, it has comprehensive IO, including 2.5Gbps Ethernet and an expansive number of USB ports. In short, can you buy a laptop for less? Yes, but it will not offer the same performance, general upgradability, or IO; it will also be louder in operation. The goal for the ROG was to offer an ultra-compact design that offered cool and quiet operation with rich features, function, and spec. If you look up the price for a 185H laptop with this spec and max TGP 4070, you will find pricing to be comparable. However, in many cases, even if the performance is similar, it will still be less. Laptops will carry economy of scale, but even if you look at a competitor like Alienware M16 R2 For $1850 MSRP, the ROG NUC is currently 1799 for a higher level of performance The Alienware laptop has a 185H 4060 64GB 2TB SSD 1 year warranty With less IO and less storage, you get a keyboard and screen, but the point is that they are not directly comparable in performance, and there are tradeoffs. The ROG NUC Has higher performing 185H Faster GPU ( 4070 ) 32GB memory 1TB SSD ( with more upgradeability ) More IO 3 year warranty Many laptop gamers buy a laptop thinking they will be mobile with it, but they would have a superior experience with a stationary system where they can use their monitor of choice. Also, there is no immediate system to compare against the NUC in a 2.5L form factor, and it is not possible to even build a 2.5L mini PC. While a desktop can offer superior performance, there are challenges to making that happen.
