Definitely check out their live performance of Where Do Broken Hearts Go from the X Factor (2014 I think). No one could call them a typical pop boy band after that performance. Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stones performs with them. The video from Dailymotion is probably the best quality of this performance.

Zayn always has that bored look especially by 2013 , even as a solo artist , it's what anxiety does to you , you try to look chill and cool you don't get that excited or you don't show it , as someone who struggles with anxiety , you'll never see me smiling on stage or in front of people unless I'm giggling (a nervous habit of mine) you might be excited about the whole thing but before going on stage or the moment you are doing that thing you just loose all excitement , not that I've been on big stages but you get what I mean ... but this style of music is definitely not his fav ...

Yea, you could say X Factor is like American Idol. These boys were put together on X Factor UK in 2010. This was a guest performance on X Factor US in 2013. Zayn never really moved around a lot on stage. Some but not a lot. He's a fun guy but around people he knows, in private, not on a stage in front of loads of people. He developed severe anxiety and that's why he rarely or never perform live now. Perhaps it's something he will be able to do again some day but not as of yet.

ya x factor was a talent competition show. They were on the X Factor UK in 2010, but this was their performance on the X Factor USA back in 2013. So they were already extremely well known at this point and they were just like special guest performers. and also zayn always KINDA looked bored when performing haha, but I think it was mainly because he suffered with bad performance anxiety. But I think it was around this time that people really started to notice that maybe he wasn't the happiest and wasn't enjoying it anymore and then over the next two years it just became more and more apparent that he was extremely unhappy in the band before he finally left.

This was actually years after xfactor and they came back as guests. They went in as individuals and lost, but Simon decided that they were too good to let go so he put them in a band. They didn’t know each other but ended up being really close and decided to stay as a band after they got 3rd place in xfactor. They got pretty popular pretty fast while being on X factor so when they started just being a boy band without the show they had plenty of fans. I mean we might be seeing them back as a band maybe around 2022 bc we know they want to come back from the hiatus, but Zayn most likely won’t be coming back. Also fun fact: Louis came back as one of the xfactor judges a few years after.

I am new in this fandom, only joined when lock down started (OMG, has it been 6 months already!? 🙈), but I agree with you regarding Zayn... To me he also looks like he's not enjoying it. Going through A LOT of 1D stuff these past 6 months, in my opinion he comes across like that a lot after let's say 2012-2013. I know he struggled with mental health issues and I honestly feel sorry for him that he didn't leave sooner, because I think that would have been better for him. 😥 Obviously, the music wasn't his style and I don't think he felt comfortable with the million interviews etc they had to do all the time. The type of music was definitely not Zayn's style and that's why he left the group. He tried to do it for his best friends and his fans but not having much creative input in the group vocally, lyrically and musically is what drove him to be unhappy in the group and what caused his eventual departure. He had fun in the group but he did struggle.

Zayne is a boring performer. He's incredibly talented but he's boring on stage. People like to say it's because he didn't like being in the band or like the songs. Excuse after excuse. But he still is boring on his own. Now the excuse is his nerves. 🙄
