One Direction - Night Changes - Old Guy Reaction

One Direction does it again but this time in different directions....Lol...I could tell that this must have been one of their final songs before they went in different directions. But the most interesting thing about this entire video is that it kinda showed me their individual distinct personalities. They literally filmed this separately from each other. They must have just gone their separate directions and filmed this video at different times. This was the finality of One Direction. I also had an epiphany after seeing this video. You will have to watch the video to find out what that was. It may make some people upset, but I would bet money on it. Literal money!
It just is what it is and the term they used when they broke up is just a soft pass to make it easier on their fans.
Anyway, it was a great song and video. We are now enjoying each member in their solo careers.

Your insight into this video portraying their five different personalities is very interesting. I hadn’t thought of it in that way. I do absolutely agree with you about them never coming back together as a group. They wanted to be solo artists from the very beginning. Their time in 1D gave them experience, fans, money and fame but they outgrew that and became solo artists. Some achieving more than others but still solo. Personally, I believe that Harry is way ahead of the others as far as talent and his capabilities as a solo artist, or anything else he chooses to do for that matter! Harry is an amazing man. There is an old saying, “you can never go back”, and that is very true. They are men now, some with families. The happy go lucky boys who toured constantly are grown up and their young fans need to grow up also and realize that 1D is in the past and these men are now looking to their future careers.

Zayn and Niall most talented musicians in my opinion, Harry is the better performer and entertainer. but it's not about talent in the music industry... Harry's more commercial, has a powerful management from a family that used to manage The Eagles and werein charge of live nation and ticketmaster which they merged into a powerful monopoly. Of which Harry reaps the rewards and opportunities. So yeah the most powerful network and connections. Zayn has wanted to act and do art since 17 years old however unlike Harry, Zayn's management were terrible, they were negligent and malicious in their treatment of their artists. For example they were sued by rapperd Lil'Peep's mother for his untimely death during his tour. The management dropped Zayn saying he was difficult to work with because he rebelled. Zayn has been without management for 5 years of his solo career, going at it alone only his personal assistant stuck by him. RCA Sony didn't support Zayn in other ventures like acting and they sabotaged his music releases. They shelved him because he rebelled, so held his music hostage with erratic releases or leaks or financial funding. Apparently some of the Icarus music videos Zayn had to fund financially with his own money as the label had shelved him. It's only recently with new management, his personal assistant was promoted to co manager, that his three album contract ended.. that he was able to leave RCA and be reborn again at Mercury records/ Island records under Universal Music Group. He also has a contract to do acting ventures [ 10 Lives an animated movie he voices two characters and did the movie soundtrack] and contract to tour. So a more supportive label now. Plus add the racism and xenophobia he went through since he gained fame since 17 years old. Zayn is lucky to have made it to other side..many don't. Another artist who went through similar things like Zayn is Raye, you may like her music 🎶

Hehehe, ok, I like your theory but I think you see it that way only because you know they went their seperate ways. This song was released in Nov 2014 though and they still made one more album after this one. So it's not their last song. The video is meant to show the boys on dates. The camera aka the person watching the video is their date. WE went on a date with them. Hilariously it just doesn't end very well. Crazy how fast the Night Changes. ;) I think your epiphany could turn out to be true. However. At the time they genuinely thought it was only a break and maybe not even a long one at that. They just didn't know. Zayn had already left that is true. But listening to their interviews after the hiatus it seems Harry is the only one that truly wanted the break. All the others have said they didn't really want it and wasn't ready for it. At that time. It's different now because it's been so long and they have all had success as solo artists. It would be more difficult for them to back together now and having to adapt all over again. But I am not ruling out a future collaboration with any and/or all of them. It will most likely only be a one time thing though. I don't expect a full album and def not a tour. But maybe a song and a performance. Have you reacted to History? It's on their last album and was their last single released in Nov. 2015. I think you need to watch that one now if you haven't. That song is their good bye song. From them to us and all our history together. It's beautiful but bitterweet to watch now. I love the MV and their last live performance on X Factor UK with the song is also amazing. I recommend!

I'm sorry but niall never said he wasn't ready for the break. He just liked working and is not one to sit around. That's why he even went on a backpacking trip. He doesn't like sitting around. But he definitely needed a break from the band. And he has said that multiple times.

To me that just didn't sound like he wanted a hiatus, just a breather to rest up. But all those early "hiatus" interviews was years ago now and I haven't really watched any of those since then so I could remember it wrong.

I reacted to History so I did see that last song. Yea, I don't know much history, but taking the journey this late, I sensed that their songs toward the end were kind of prepping for the end. I do know how record companies trap artists with contracts, so the interesting question is how far in advance did they know that it was coming to an end before the last album. I am sure they had contracts for a number of albums. I was noticing in some of the live performances that Zayn looked really bored and that was super interesting. He just could not wait for it to finish. It would be interesting to know the actual behind the scenes discussions and negotiations with agents etc. I have a feeling that the "Hiatus" was really an easy way to break up and not destroy the fan base. They had to delicately work out the entire plan.....we call that the "Exit Strategy" in business when a transfer or closing needs to occur.

@@oldguyreactions I don't know how they negotiated their contract. Fans seem to know everything though. The problem is I've seen many different versions so... I don't think they know. 😂 Because the boys certainly haven't explained it. But from what I have always assumed (aka I don't know a thing just thoughts), their plan was to launch them globally from the start so the safest route would be first one album to see how it is received but it is entirely possible it was for 2 albums. The first to get them started, the second to firmly establish them. We do know they re-negotiated for their 3rd album. Because they boys fought for their own control which they were granted (within approved limits). And from then on they negotiated each new album. When I said re-negotiated for each new album I forgot to say it is a strong possibility they had a 5 year or 5 album contract but that they had leeway to re-negotiate after their second album. So yes, it's very possible there was a already determined strategy from the beginning. It just doesn't seem like it went so smoothly. You are right that there seems to have been issues within the band around 2013/2014. We know because Harry has admitted he was the first one to suggest a break. Which is an indicator that maybe they were starting to feel over worked around this time or this is when they had started growing apart and wanted too many different things with their music. It's a natural progress after all. I don't remember when, but could have been as early as in 2013, which would be the time they negotiated the next 4th album. Their collaborators, meaning their head writers and producers did an interview for their 10th anniversary. And as they worked closely with the boys they'd gotten to know them and they said there were tensions in the band and that came out in their music/lyrics. And that was when they were talking about their 4th album where this song is from. Just listen to Spaces and put it in relation to the boys instead of a love song. Breaks my heart to listen to it. There were all sorts of rumors flying in late 2014 if they would go their separate ways or if Zayn would leave etc so yeah, things probably weren't the best behind the scenes. But then they announced their next tour for 2015 and that everybody was on board. Fans could breath again. Until Zayn left. They must have had a lot of talks about what they'd do now. And from the lyrics on their last album which to me feels like a good bye album I think they had decided to take a break before writing it. But they were also granted, as I like to say free reign over the last album. I think because the label was desperate to try and keep them as long as possible. Without that "free reign" I doubt we would have gotten that 5th album. Like... We will do one more but only an album, not a tour and only if we get to write it as we want kind of deal. But it could also be that they had to do a 5th album because that's what the original contract said and then a plan was made to make it as best they could. As you said, with saying we're just going on a break/don't worry we will be back so it wouldn't cause mayhem and chaos. There are actually also similarities with N'sync in that regard if I remember correctly. Some members thought it was only going to be a break but clearly not all of them. Some of them actually planned their solo career but going on a break sounded better. And that's my thoughts on that.
