@@Frostile Unfortunately, I didn't have the same experience, whenever a 5 bar Wi-Fi option would pop-up I'd always take it in the beggining, but the matches were ALWAYS troublesome, they were a bit iffy and jaggedy at best and literally unplayable, slo-mo fests at worst, which happened quite a bit, it effectively stopped me from accepting Wi-Fi matches period, I'm not saying I'm getting 100% perfect matches all the time against Ethernet bros, but they feel a lot more consistent.

As someone who ALWAYS rematches others, I want to give a friendly reminder that no one owes you a rematch. Regardless of their reasons, they do not have to rematch you. For real, a mature take unlike so many others in the FGC. It's human nature to assume the worst reason possibly for why you opponent is or isn't doing something but it's really not always about you. Even if it is, sometimes the other person doesn't wanna fight you because they noticed you're spamming and playing like a monkey and they'd rather not lose randomly to some flailing kid with an ego the size of an entire country. This is as valid a reason as any other, just get over it lol.

Fighting Game. People forget the more important part of this word, the 'Game' part. Games were fundamentally made for entertainment. Not everybody picked up Tekken 8 or SF6 to become the next Knee or Daigo. Some saw the marketing, thought it was cool, and gave it a try. For the majority of people, they don't even realize that being good at it can already be a sustainable livelihood in this modern era. A person would be lying if he told you that in his family reunion one day he decided to tell everyone that his job is competing in fighting games and he didn't get weird looks. People need to accept the fact, that games in general are stress relief and because of that they're not always going to press that rematch button. Do you really expect fighting a victor who spammed 22222 in the entire fight to rematch you after you sidestepped his Glock, launched him, and then killed him? How about the Asuka who kept spamming parry because it worked well in arcade only to get grabbed (grabs in this game are unbreakable if they caught you while doing a parry) over and over? How about the King who got boosted to Vanquisher with his myriad of throws only to face you whose throw break defense is S+ because you've been breaking them since tekken 5? No. When you find these people you need to understand that they play the game for stress relief. They come home from work, boot up the game, hoping to get their fill of dopamine that will help them stave off the stress and not unalive themselves thinking that they have to work for an douche boss 5-6 days in a week. Unless you're in extremely high ranks, where it's obvious everyone's playing to get better, you shouldn't expect anyone to give you a rematch and even then, having a 'bad day' is still a perfectly acceptable reason to walk away.

@@BanditTools Opposite, nice try though. If you're the kind of person who just wants to have fun winning, you don't want to rank up. That's how you plateau. You don't want to plateau if you want your dopamine. You want your easy wins in brawler- warrior ranks. On the other hand if you have fun by getting better at the game, that's when you want to either 'win a lot in ranked' until you start fighting arslan ash, knee, and anakin. OR, go to casuals, where strong players who are too scared to lose their rank practice. Lastly, you could be the third kind, who enjoys being notorious. Someone like Locaso. You're probably doing it for content in front of an audience who knows you're a loser. You can then use scripts and just frame quit every time you're about to lose in ranked.

If you are going to rematch a person , do it based on being competitive. Do not rematch just because " its the thing to do". A player gets thier ass destroyed in Rank, get demoted , and they're supposed to fight the person AGAIN so they can lose twice and get demoted even further. Lmfao! You can honestly find another match up within seconds on Tekken 8. Theres no shortage of opponents so 'Rank Shaming ' One and Dones is fruitless. Sad part is I've seeen so many streams where a player rematches. ( not because they are competitive ) They rematch because they were taught to finish the set no matter what. I left on a loss one time against a bear player. It's very rare I leave but that time I did cause I knew I would lose and I went to lab the character straight after. Ok, I'm gonna say this cuz i think many will be scared to and also seems most people are in a sheepish mindset unwilling to actually think logically. I mean no offense. I like a good productive convo. Firstly, yes a person can one and done if they want. Not everyone has the same goals as anyone else in playing or find enjoyment from doing the full set. That's cool. Hate when folks try to push the bs narrative that you need to rematch them in ranked to get better. No you dont. You got quick match, practice mode, friends, group match, etc etc. I think yal use "you cant get better" as an excuse to try to mask yal own frustrations and personal ego because that point is literally one of the weakest arguments for them to play you again. 😂 They could learn without ranked mode. So could you. If all of the folks with a problem with it all wanted to learn, yal wouldnt have trouble finding ways to help each other beyond just a "won a set against you, bye". Add each other and do sets of ten lol. Secondly, there's tons of reasons a person can one and done besides the typical reasons yal bring up. For instance, they just want to tick you off because they know yal hate it, same with ki charging and t bagging, or maybe they take some weird pride in ranking up from just doing one match, etc. Regardless of their reason, we can only guess from the outside. People crying about a person choosing not to risk their points is, IRONICALLY, just as "caring about losing" as much as the guy quitting. Otherwise, why does it matter if they play you again? You'll see that same character hundreds of times and if yal got a similar mindset, add each other and work on learning the ins and outs of the character. Taking ranks so seriously that you all will talk trash, call names, and be toxic to people for simply possibly choosing to strategically not risk their points, being scared, or whatever their reason is funny to me. There's so many other players, matches, and things you can do to get better, if that's your aim, that it doesnt make much sense to get salty at all lol then try to tell them how important it is to take those matches less seriously and accept losses so they get better. Yal dont see the hypocrisy? Who cares if they get a cheap win on you, you're just playing just to get better right? Even if you wn you cant learn that character in one ft3 right? Well on to the next, shouldn't matter enough to create a whole video complaining, twitter, or call names. Half the players could be little kids and yal get angy and judge. "Be a man and finish the set", maybe, how about be a man and shrug it off like nothing? It's a game. "But respect tho", 90% of yal in the fgc are toxic, disrespectful, and illogical many times. So getting yal respect aint some significant thing to care about. Yal take ranks, points, and whatnot so seriously that yal actually care if they "fake" their skill? The "appearing good but not good" point only matters if yal take ranks as some end all of skill. A beginner rank could beat gods, a God could lose to beginner ranks. Ironically, if yal stopped depending on others to give you a chance to get your win or learn, yal would probably be less triggered.

And I put it like this: it’s a game, win lose or draw, if I gotta use the toilet, or run to the door, or whatever the case I’m going to exit and jump back on later, even if it’s only 2 minutes and I personally don’t think I have to explain myself (if I do it’s as a curtesy). It's all in your head, bro. There are many reasons someone might leave after one match. Like I understand that it always FEELS like they are disrespecting you because I feel that too, and many times they probably are. But like, take me for example. I have anger problems, always have. I have a tendancy to break my stuff and do really stupid things when I'm angry so if for any reason I feel myself getting angry I just leave the set without going again, even if I won. It could be the way my opponent is playing, the way i'm playing, or simply the fact that I'm getting bodied. Whatever, It doesn't matter, and isn't about my opponent. It's a personal flaw that I recognize and this is one way I try to minimize it. Or maybe someone has to leave for some reason, pick any reason (crying baby, knock on the door, phone call, literally whatever). The reality is that tekken ranked matches are not always the top priority for people. For real though, unless someone is outright BMing you, getting offended about them leaving is just you inventing something to be upset about. Offended at something that might not even exist.

If you truly had an "emergency", or a time sensitive event, you would AFK in the middle of the round. The people who do 1 and done ARE Bming, because 99% of the time, they either got exposed for being a fraud, or got a cheap round and saw you starting to figure it out at the end of the match. Their connection sucks and the game is too laggy to have a rematch and I dont want to deal with that problem anymore 2. because I live in South Africa, I often get matched with the same people multiple times. (I have had an instance where I matched up with someone 6 ranks higher than me 3 times in a row and it was the same person). If I wanna fight the same person multiple times id create a session or group match so no I dont want that. 3. I dont want to fight a scummy person. Some people are just not enjoyable to fight and I dont want to fight them again. I refuse to plug so ill just one and done. like I said I am unapologetic about it. I wont have others ruin my fun, they can match up with someone else and if the game forces me to run into them again then I will fight them again I do try to get better, while I stream my viewers can see me doing stuff like studying frame data, side stepping, watching replays and downloading and watching pro players matches and all that stuff (Leroy main btw) so I do spend my time trying to get better at the game and its always tested. but I am someone who whether I win or lose, I will one and done unless I really enjoyed my match with them

So if I have a match, then need to take a shit. Do I have to hold it in so you can have a rematch? If I do it once then I should be blacklisted? I respect the opinion of having the right mindset but the people who are worse are pluggers. Making a video about ‘one and done’ isn’t really going to make other things brought up vividly clear. One and done is an option for a reason. There were a lot point farming in Tekken 7 and even if I gave a second game, there won’t be much to see. Unless you go back to the drawing board and learn punishing, a second rematch won’t really improve your skills. Losing in itself doesn’t increase your skills, and you only learn when you’re actually practicing on covering your weakness. Moreover, even if it’s not taking a shit there are chores and IRL. Tekken 8 isn’t even the only game I have.

Do I have this right? Opponent: Wins yet leaves = Rage Losses and leaves = Rage Player: Wins yet leaves, Depends on connection/Is bored = Acceptable Losses and leaves = Being salty/tryhard So what's the difference between rage quitting at that point? The opponent and the player will be upset regardless of who wins or loses and if they just decide to leave on the first one. The only difference is you're either given points for the win or lose points for taking an honest loss instead of just shutting off the game. But if the person wins and they still get their points because their opponent didn't Rage Quit... then why would the person who won be angry? Would they rather the opponent Rage Quit so they can make quick upload clip, or at least get the points they won? I am aware Esports exist and everything but why are people treating online like it's grand finals? ( I come from a family of extreme sport fanatics and I don't believe I've heard of something this convoluted over winning or losing ) I can understand the whole tournament thing because there's lots of money on the line. What isn't ranked mode pretty much just bragging rights? And what about the whole thing of people saying - "Being an online ranked Warrior isn't the same as being up there on stage." (or whatever) I mean damn guys. I'm pretty sure not everyone who has bought the game is planning to make a career out of it. Some people just see video games as what they are - A pastime. If someone is getting this worked up over convoluted technicalities regarding unspoken rules for games (that aren't even in a tournament) I wouldn't even bother playing online in that game if I'm going to risk getting my account banned because I somehow hurt someone's feelings. I enjoy video games, but I'll never understand why some people take it *THIS* seriously.

Nobody's feelings are hurt and always attributing wanting to play the full set to someone being into eSports seems a little narrow minded. I just like playing in my room, but I like to complete the set. That's it. It's no fun when someone leaves right way. That's subjective obviously but that's not fun to me. Maybe it is to you. I'd argue that you're missing out on the fun of Tekken because the longer matches go, the more you'll see playstyles evolve and new moves be used rather than just one. Again, nothing to do with eSports, just a different idea of what fun is.. and yes, taking points does give a sense of accomplishment and that's fun to some people. Does that mean they're running to book their next ticket to EVO... No. Just a different idea of what fun is.

So I always rematch cause apparently that “respectful” stat is based on rematching and I want that shit at S+ lol Jokes aside I don’t think we are entitled to a rematch as long as developers don’t force it. I disagree with you that everyone needs to be improving. I feel a flowcharter that refuses to learn still adds value to the health of the game at a casual level, and I want them to play as long as possible. If not forcing rematches is gonna help that, that’s fine. At the end of the day Flowchart Jim is gonna quit if he gets bodied too many times in a row, but the guy actually dedicating himself to getting better is not gonna quit over a few win quits. Also if you mash through the win screen and hit rematch before your opponent makes a selection, it usually doesn’t freeze on me. Only freezes when I choose simultaneously or after my opponent.

I have played tekken for the first time since ps1 this week and i play ranked, Im learning the game and dont expect to win every game at all and for me if im playing someone who beats me within 10 seconds 3 rounds in a row i see no point in rematching, it doesnt make me scared its just seeing the experience difference and i dont see how i will learn with the exact same thing happening again. If i have a entertaining game with someone or its close i will rematch, or if i win i will give them a chance to fight again. a lot of people play these games just for fun, its really not that deep, i dont care about gaining someones respect, i just want to fight on there learn and have fun, im not trying to go to tournaments or put 10k hours into it. You have 3 rounds to win or lose, no one owes anyone anything else except for seeing them out without rage quitting like a child. Ive had people who didnt want to fight me again and see no problem with it, i moved on and fought someone else because it takes literally 10 seconds to find another game.

Even though I tend to rematch after I win or lose, the amount of points that you lose after a loss can be pretty harsh, so I can see how some people may be hesitant to rematch especially if they might lose twice and lose double the amount of points. People do play to win at the end of the day, and losing does help you learn and get better at the game, but I think some may be more willing to take losses when they reach a higher rank cuz they will still be seen as good even if they’re on a losing streak. I can also understand if it’s a laggy match and they choose to leave after one match. It’s not a big deal for me if someone doesn’t want to rematch, but I can see how it could be annoying.

I play ranked almost exclusively, and I don't mind losing a couple ranks from time to time. It doesn't mean anything anyway, and I'm just looking to improve. That said, no one owes you a rematch. It could be a number of things. The connection seemed good at first, and then it became spotty. Something came up that I need to tend to(I'm married, so sometimes my wife will ask if I can help her with something, so I tell her right after the fight, then refuse the rematch). And even if it's not either of those, I will refuse a rematch if I get thoroughly destroyed, because at that point I'm not learning anything, I'm just giving the guy a free win and I recognize that.

Being new to Tekken I had to get used to the level of frustration getting beaten brings. I never plug and never will, and I always rematched, up to one day that I got so frustrated that I started denying rematches whenever I knew I would be destroyed. My argument was that I couldn't learn a thing by being juggled to the wall after 1 single whiff and that I had not learned the match up yet, therefore I couldn't win regardless. However I gradually chilled and started rematching more and more as soon as I noticed what you also said here: we might get destroyed for 1 match but eventually we figure something out and we might learn something, and sometimes make a come back. Now that I have admitted being guilty of Cancelling rematches (only sometimes, when I get destroyed; I'm not a chronic "Canceler") I have to say I agree with your argument here. The only exception to this would be matches with Wifi players that start lagging immensely, or if I find disrespectful or abusive taunting. I really can't stand that one bit and I don't feel I owe any respect to trolls, so in that case I feel free to go search for other players.

First thing, I agree with your overall point about "one and done"s; for most it's about that rank for sure. Your experience with (a lack of) lag is very different than mine. Release day I had one or two laggy matches, but the days since then the number has increased. Almost exclusively wi-fi players I have lag issues with. Sometimes it's a four bar I've accepted but it's usually five green or even five blue bars. Some of those wifi matches are more than passable, but several others are just passable, or damn near unplayable. Maybe it's a New York thing with all these wi-fi connections. Against wired players though, generally a solid connection. Not "perfect", but pretty good most of the time. As for one and dones, I've had it happen several times(twice before I stopped between matches to type this out, one after I beat someone in a promotion match). It's especially during ranked but also in Quick Match. Sometimes I can understand it, even if it doesn't count. If you're a beginner to Tekken and you just got completely stomped, you most likely didn't learn anything and the opponent will just steamroll you again, which isn't fun or competitive. At that point why would they not try another opponent who the actually stand a chance against?? That said, I hope these people at least go to practice mode when they leave matches like that. I used to recommend that new players "Stick around and play anyway, (as they) might pick up on something", and get flamed or downvoted on Reddit or elsewhere for that, but after running over a few newbies the first few days, I totally get why most people say beginners should start off more slowly. Just to be clear, I get stomped out at times too. We all do. Difference is us long time players will most likely come back. A beginner might be less inclined to.

My personal opinion is that people that are genuinely looking to get better will not rematch someone that is obviously much more skilled or much less skilled than them. Genuine competitions comes when both participants are about the same level of skill, there's no point absolutely trashing or getting absolutely trashed for another 2-5 minutes. Especially when the game is newer, there is a big discrepancy in skill levels within ranks.

I think there are alot more instances of people leaving for emergency reasons than whats credited for but I agree with you on the point of the mentality of willingly leaving a set prematurely. It does no one any favors and ultimately is just making the both of you do unnecessary waiting in between games. Yes you bought the game and that does, by pure technicality, give you the right to choose to leave but youre also the one that chose the ranked mode, the mode thats supposed to be a marker of your progress and skill. Cherry picking matches is definitely lame behavior and I really dont like people justifiying it to themselves

I'll leave if I want to. If I didn't enjoy the set I'm gone whether it's win or lose.

I'm very competitive generally and make a point to always rematch with 2 exceptions. 1. Toxicity. Sometimes I'll stay and just be toxic back and often will win on a comeback but after a ton of toxic fights it gets tiring. 2. Lag. I try to only accept wired fights, however, if I'm stuck searching for awhile and only finding wifi I'll eventually accept a 5 bar wifi. Sadly, that 5 bar turns to 2 50% of the time when you actually get in the fight. I agree with accepting losses. It is key to getting better. I just can't bring myself to want to lock people into a fight with me or vice versa. Also, shit just happens. If they gotta go then they gotta go. It's hard to fight a nice middle place with this topic that makes everyone happy.
