The hardest part of Dragon Riding for me is that I'm used to dismounting myself by pressing at attack key that, in dragon riding, is the ascent key.

Pro tip: use the Bronze Timelock at the start of a race to skip to the end once you hit the 2nd to last checkpoint. shaves 2-4 seconds off your time, especially useful for the advanced races.

Skyward Ascent actually doesn't freeze your momentum, but gives you a slight burst of momentum (i think a little less than Surge Forward). So if you are flying at the medium speed (just before Thrill of the Skies) Skyward Ascent will push you into Thrill of the Skies.

Yeah, this clearly doesn't work and you can see his speed visibly go down when he does it in the video. There is a small speed boost and that's actually how I get my thrill of the skies (3-4 ascents in a row will do it), but it's not this miracle solution that he's describing.

The skyward ascent speed boost is matched to the animation. So if you want to use it efficiently click it again after two flaps of the wings. So "click" "flap" "flap" "click." When you get it just right the animation is smooth and unbroken so definitely intended.

I've been playing dragonflight as a warrior and using console port. Dragnriding with a controller is really relaxing. I got gold in all the races, advanced races, and riding glyphs done before I finished the centaur zone. It's so fun.

hey @BellularGaming, another thing about skyward ascent - if you hold right click and look upward, and press it twice back to back, it will actually give you a large speed boost and the thrill of the skies buff. Using it the same way while looking forward will not give you nearly as much of a speed boost, and you will not get the thrill of the skies. In that case, it may be better to use surge forward

Theres no need for a macro. Just use favorite mount option. In old world zones it will summon non dragonflying mount and in Dragon Isles it will summon dragonflying mount if u have both types added to fav.

Though oddly enough it breaks in Azmerloth. Had to pull a ground mount onto my bar in there, guess it counts as a dragon isles zone with dragonriding disabled and confuses the random favourite button.

Another useful "trick" is that you don't actually need the Skyward Ascent keybind at all, pressing the jump key also triggers it. People that tried taking off from flat ground likely already noticed this, but it isn't mentioned anywhere.

You can fly indefinitely WAY before maxing out your dragon. Also, Skyward ascent will actually accelerate you forward as you go up.. Do it three times rapidly and not only will you gain massive altitude, you will be at regen speed.

Yeah, it really isn't necessary to land to recharge vigor. For anyone interested, just make sure to level out and pitch a bit down before you lose too much momentum. Just keep recharging and using skyward ascent. This way, you can get to any elevation without ever having to land. It works kind of like real physics, where potential energy (in this case height) will equal kinetic energy (vigor).

As a miner it's really not that bad. I'm never getting stuck once it only takes 15 seconds to Regen vigor that's very little down time

In personal opinion, dragonriding went from an annoyance to actual enjoyable once unlocking all glyphs. I had to cheese a lot of times to reach the glyphs in the beginning, but it became easier. I understand they wanted to capture a feeling of progression, going from a dragonriding novice to expert, but it is a completely different game and again worth setting aside an hour or so, using TomCat tours (or equivalent) and just getting them all in one go.

For the glyphs I have been using Handynotes, which has all of them, plus tons of other helpful locations to grab along the way. I don't use too many add-ons but this one has been nice. One more thing I am not positive about - when you have some speed and use Skyward Ascent it seems to be WAY more effective if you are scaling a mountain. Like the game is giving you an extra boost based on the terrain or something. I noticed I was able to make consistently massive (and fast) climbs when scaling mountains as long as I had some speed going into the ascent - but I didn't really notice this anywhere else.

I think it would be very cool to see a dragonriding cosmetic set (for the player character) that could be made to match the color scheme of whichever dragon your currently on. obviously, you could just transmog some regular gear to do this too...but maybe not so much the color matching, since we still can't change the dye on our armor :/

You didn’t mention that the dragon riding trainer can allow you to have a rider, and the rider can also collect glyphs, so if you have a friend or guildie that is having trouble collecting some you can give them a ride to help them.

I honestly as soon as I got my dragon riding ability, I spent a couple hours and just collected all of the glitz on one character. Handy notes tells you where each one of them are. I could’ve searched around in the Staten the other. But I don’t have a lot of time to sit here and play and just fiddle around like I used to so being able to fly early on is a huge timesaver for me and makes questing so much easier. That being said, I am taking my time going through the quests in enjoying the world I just don’t want to have to slog around and figure out how to get up the hill and downsloping into a cavern and all that stuff without the ability to fly.

Skyward ascent doesn't just maintain your current speed, it can actually increase it if you use It right. You can go from the normal wind effect to the blue aura while ascending. ;)

I've been using Ary's Dragonriding Assistant weakaura. It doesn't have the angle meter, which is handy, but I prefer how it displays thrill of the skies and your skyward ascent time better than the one in this video.

I think they should expand the glyph system by a few more talents to allow more vigor and generation. Also the skill that boosts vigor after gathering an herb or mineral is very dodgy. It won’t refresh the existing buff and seems to have a cool down if you’re going from node to node.

More vigor or faster regen would be extremely superfluous. I can already fly around the entire map or circle around a dungeon literally forever without ever touching the ground. As far as when when gathering it takes a bit more management but I have still never run in to a problem with not having vigor or being within 10 seconds of all the vigor I need.

macro for mount? or you could just mark the mounts you want to use as a favorite and then use the mount random favorite mount. it will pull dragonriding mounts in the isles, and flying or ground mount depending on zone restrictions.

Doesn't the "favorite mount" button from the mount journal work? It will choose a dragon if you're in the isles, and a regular mount anywhere else.

Legitimately hope this will help me because while i think i've gotten reasonably good at dragonriding... i just hate it. I hate everything about it. I *thought* i was going to tolerate it but it is everything i was worried about (except not being able to launch from the ground and needing a high-up place for that, they got that right). You don't look straight up when using skyward ascent, that would actually make you go backwards. You look up at ~45 degrees and you boost like a maniac. Also, the pitch meter no longer works due to API changes, according to the WA authors.

You can gain infinite vigor with Skyward Ascent from grounded, just look straight up, rightclick, and spam spacebar until you fully run out of vigor, on last one, flip horizontal and regain vigor for 15-20 sec then repeat. You can go from sea level to tallest mountain in about 60 seconds flat.

There is a better mount macro that uses Summon Favorite Mount button. If you set at least one dragonflying mount and one or more regular flying mounts as favorites, the Summon Favorite will summon dragonflying mount whenever dragonflying is available, and regular mounts when dragonflying isn't available. Then you can use this macro where the button will spawn the correct transportation mount without having to use modifiers, outside of utility mounts of course that can still be summoned with modifiers. /cast [mod:ctrl] Great Sea Ray /cast [mod:shift] Traveler's Tundra Mammoth /cast [mod:alt] X-53 Touring Rocket /run C_MountJournal.SummonByID(0)

Dragonriding is absolutely amazing. Now i got problem with regular flying becouse it is SO boring. Unlocking dragonriding for whole game would be fantastic. I can imagine some sort of older mounts with this ability of flying. Imagine Ashes of Alar for example. Maybe mechanical mounts like rockets can have different flying abilities. Unlocking dragonriding for older mount thru some nice chain quest would be great. For me it does perfect sense. Dont get me wrong. I dont want get rid of old flying. But having choice would be great.

As a druid I would like them to bring back flight form. I will take drastically less speed but more control. Dragonriding ain't as fun as they hoped it would be, it's more of a chore having to fly in a parabolic arc just to keep myself in the air. Plus it bugs out and keeps moving fairly frequently when you land.

The trick is to look up when you press your ascent and move the mouse quickly to straight forward, you get around 1400% speed straight forward, easily better than Surge to go forward
