What a wonderful record of the street scapes and fashions of 1957.

I recall a similar film from the 60s and I remember the song. It was to the tune of 'Where Have All The Flowers Gone' but the lyrics go: 'Where Have All The Drivers Gone?'

4:07 I like the way he gets in the car without walking on the road. The car has no distractions not even a radio so he is more attentive to what is happening outside of the car even after drinking beers.

That beer garden was a bit posh for the late 1950s. Nice umbrellas, must have been Kings Cross.

That's strange, i would have sworn that Bill Smith was in an episode of Homicide not long after this was aired.

I love Smithie's seemingly cheerful expression after he has hit the man at 6:05

I blame the guy who turned in front of him and forced him into the quarry. Should be a manslaughter charge. Gonna miss you Smithy.

I have to think that the sudden appearance of a quarry is kinda unfair.

The roads are shite! I see nothing's changed. Laughed my head off at the end. That's the silliest ending possible. He could've just had a bingle but noooo. They had to have him fly off a cliff into a quarry. Hilarious! Though..I do hear about that sort of thing happening every other weekend.

The early cars were quite unstable, poor braking & steering on those narrow tyres, also everyone drank with six oclock closing it was mayhem on the roads. Smithy took a short cut.

I've been known to have a drink from time to time. But since I know I'll be driving, I'm careful *how much* to drink *before* I drive. I've never drank so much as to affect the last part of my brain (thank god for that). Only enough that I'm a tad unsteady on my feet. If I can't walk steady, imagine what I'd be like behind the wheel!

@H HOUR HOTEL Good idea. If only everyone refrained from anything alcoholic. Sadly, I've known people who have decided to drive a car after drinking.
@bossdog14802 жыл бұрын
In the seventies you wouldn't think you were sufficiently prepared for driving if you didn't have half a dozen under the belt.😁
@jasoncarpp77422 жыл бұрын
I agree. I don't get why people drink anything alcoholic. If you're going to be home and not planning to go anywhere, you can drink all you can, and not worry about causing an accident. Or if you're at a friend's (mate's) place. Assuming he has a bed to sleep on, you can sleep and sober up before you drive.
