I am waiting for my cucumbers to try some pickles. Thank you for sharing.

WOW Bev you never cease to amaze me!!! How you manage to do all that work in one afternoon is absolutely amazing and creating a video at the same time! I can’t even seem to get through one canning recipe let alone three different ones! You are an absolute marvel and I can’t wait to see Howie’s and your reaction when you try each of them! I bet they will taste amazing! God bless and may you continue to reap an abundant harvest of cucumbers because I was just thinking how much money you will save not buying jars of pickles! Awesome!🥰❤️🙏🏻🍁🇨🇦 Also thanks again for the other day when singing Happy Birthday to me you really put a huge permagrin on an old gal’s face!🥰

You can also use strawberry leaves to make pickles crisp when you make them. 😊
@longarmsupplies2 ай бұрын
I also just heard we can use strawberry leaves for tannin content. Girl, I've been pickling for year and never thought to store the cucs in pails of ice water to get a bigger batch going! You're full of so much knowledge!

I’m thinking of making bread and butter onions. I can put in and potato, macaroni, chicken, tuna salads etc. don’t have to worry about the onions going bad.

I saw 2 bumblebees yesterday during my 5 hours in the garden. But, I think the issue is the 2 airbnb next to me. They have professionals come in to spray for mosquitos. I think it's harming them.
@OurHalfAcreHomestead2 ай бұрын
OH NO! I would complain to them and have them put out a mosquito coil, or whatever. Spraying is not good!

I always think dill fronds make pickles taste so much better than dill seed. The seed just doesn't impart the same flavor, in my opinion.

This year in my infinite wisdom, decided to focus on 3 vegetables instead of dealing with 12+. I thought I could rotate each year. Its been a weird year here. My cucumbers and beans are weeks behind. Cabbage is on schedule. It's so weird considering the early spring!

I can’t grow anything as I live in the city so I buy direct from a farm. I get pickling cubes $12.00 half bushel and make B&B pickles. My neighbor’s grands eat my pickles by the pint.

No mustard seed or pickling spice in the dills? I guess everyone has their own way with pickles. I know I've had all kinds!
@OurHalfAcreHomestead2 ай бұрын
Nope only dill and garlic
@itslowtide46902 ай бұрын
Sometimes simple is the best! Yes, we can all put a beautiful red pepper in the jar, a round slice of onion, a grape leaf, peppercorns of various colors, or mustard seeds, etc. But it truly isn’t necessary, is it ☺️

Hi Bev - Does the large jar of Dill Pickles go in the refrigerator?
@OurHalfAcreHomestead2 ай бұрын
Nope once it's sealed and cool down it goes right into the pantry
@LauraMacMillan-el2kc2 ай бұрын
May I ask ... How does it work with the dill pickles to be filled to the top with brine, rather than having a little head space on top? I've never seen that before. Something to do with not going into a water bath?
@OurHalfAcreHomestead2 ай бұрын
Using hot sterile jars in boiling hot brine you fill it to the top to overflowing so there is no airspace and it makes a difference in the self-sealing
@itslowtide46902 ай бұрын
Bev, do you have any knowledge or experience with making a low or no-sugar bread and butter pickle? My sister asked me to make some for her and I’ve never made them before and not sure it’s possible and have a good tasting sweet pickle at the end.

Why is it called bread and butter pickles when there's no bread or butter in the ingredients? Sorry, just being a dim European. But I got some pickling gherkins I got to do something with soon.
@LauraMacMillan-el2kc2 ай бұрын
Gerkins are the best! The same brine as Bev used here for the bread and butter pickles should work well.
