My Escapement Time flieger has just arrived and I like it. I admit that was afraid of opening the box after watching this video. But it is actually fine. Nothing wrong with hand winding. Too much water resistance? Can there be too much of it? I can't even swim, but I do believe that such a high level means higher quality seals, tighter tolerances, stronger case construction, better engineering overall. And all of that is not bad. And this one feels totally solid. Unlike some other fliegers I had tried, that were chunky and unwieldy for nothing.

The flieger-crown is obviously a QC-dud. I have the exact same watch (only with type-b dial) and there is no problem with the crown whatsoever. The hands are indeed blued, not "blue" but blued, at least according to other reviews here on the tube (one guy even took it to his local watch-shop, and they confirmed it was blued). The 300meters and the height lends the watch an elegant ruggedness. My wrist is just short of 7 inches, and I don't find the watch oversized whatsoever. My girlfriend (with even slimmer wrists) tried it, and when she wore it, it looked even more rugged-cool. I do not find that it wears "odd" in any way. In short: apart from the obvious QC-dud, I could hardly agree less with your review of the ET Flieger. I think it's an absolute stunner, and (as another reviewer put it) "tough little bugger" at the same time. A matter of taste obviously :)

I've got the Flieger "B" with the PT5000 in it. Works a treat and is running very accurately. I also have the Longines Conquest Heritage homage with the Miyota 9015 series movement. That is another nice little watch. Only a 38mm but wears like a 40mm. Hi Jody, just to update. I got the replacement watch from escapement time and it has exactly the same issue after using it for approx 5 minutes. Highly disappointed. Just sent a message to the seller there, we'll see what happens. In both watches i received there was an issue with the crown and stem and the threading of the crown. The rotor spins wildly when you are tightening up the crown. Oh, also the strap for the second one fell apart when I attempted to wear the watch. In other news I got the steeldive willard homage today. Really impressed. Accuracy about +6 per day and the beat error a bit high but really good for the money an the lume is just incredible. I took your advice too and got the black one with the black rubber band. Fantastic value

I got a type b Flieger from escapement time two months ago. I have a larger wrist so it wears perfectly (Flieger watches are historically big and thick watches, so it isn't an issue for me, it give it more authenticity). For my watch, the finishing isn't perfect, there are small irregularities on the brushing of the case, but still outstanding for the price. Maybe a small quality control issue here? But for the price, it's great. I didn't expect luxury quality control for less than 90 euros. I am very pleased with the watch, and I find the heated-blue hands beautiful (yes, even with the big counterbalance of the second hand). I found it wears amazing with a nato or parachute strap. I saw some people use a metal strap with this watch, and it looks really neat.

I have both the watches showcased in this video. Unless the dimensions are a problem for you, I would suggest anyone looking for an affordable flieger to go for it. The 300M WR just makes it more utilitarian in my opinion. Too bad you got a piece with a defect. I got the Type B about 6 months ago and I wear it often and enjoy it. When it comes to the dress piece, it's honestly a no-brainer. Nowhere else are you going to get that level of finishing for $70. PS: The hands in both pieces are supposed to be thermally blued according to the seller. Don't know if that is true but definitely looks better than the painted hands I have seen in other watches.

I have the B-type flieger, and it handwinds perfectly, so perhaps it's just this one. It wears fairly large indeed, but not oddly so, but that's perhaps a personal thing, although the size would be in keeping with the original style of fliegers. I am quite taken with it!
@ericgrace99953 жыл бұрын
A longer than usual comment. I understand that characteristics of traditional "Fliegers" are that they have larger crowns to facilitate their use by pilots wearing gloves. They traditionally have larger dials so the pilot can read them while keeping one extended hand on the joy stick. If you check out the original Luftwaffe Fliegers, they are really big watches. Straps were also extended, to allow them to be worn over flight suits...rather like moon watches! There is some confusion over the dial types, with type 'B' being issued to the "Bombadier" or "Bomb Aimer", whose job was to make sure the bombs hit the target. Approaching the target, the bomb aimer took command of the aircraft and issued commands/directions to the pilot, whose job was now to fly the aircraft straight and level , to allow the bomb aimer to acquire the target. Time over target was kept to an absolute minimum, as flying straight and level made you a sitting duck for enemy fighters or flak. As time over target was a matter of minutes, bomb aimer's watches are marked in minutes. Bombs dropped, the pilot took back command and headed back to base... a flight that would take hours, hence the dial marked in hours. I think that modern sensitivities have led to the 'B' being called the 'Navigator', to avoid its grim purpose !

Picked up a Chameri GS which has the same movement, hands and also has AR coating and a screw-down crown for $59.00. The off-white dial sort of cream dial actually looks amazing at least from a distance. I'll probably put a perlon strap on my Chameri GS. As far as the Escapement watch IMO if the watch had AR coating I'd get one. The Chameri GS doesn't have any script on the crown but then again doesn't need any for $59.00 The main thing I like about homage watches is their price point and no need to be concerned about them although I care for all my watches equally.

Sweeping seconds quartz VH31 is quite an interesting movement. It even has a few jewels. Why it is not more common? The main thing must be the price - it costs ~14$ while common quartz movement is just a few bucks. So VH31 only starts making sense in "more expensive" enthusiast watches. There are a few interesting examples with VH31. Take a look at Charlie Paris Concordia 38mm (poor man's black bay), WMT W20 (CWC Mellor, Hamilton Pilot Pioneer homage), Qimei Benrus homage from Ali Express.

I have the VH31 as shown in this video. I was swayed by good reviews (elsewhere), and its nice if you are into technical watch details, but for me I find it just a bit hard to read the time, as there isn't enough contrast between the face, hands and time markers. A black face would fix that. The other thing I miss is the date. My previous watches had it on a small LCD screen below the hand movement. I havent had a watch with the date showing through the tiny window before, as per an automatic.

@@Bob_Smith19 Wow, it really seems like they've got a crown stem problem, interesting it's a similar issue to Jody's....

I know this is a strange thing to thank you for...but, I appreciate where you place the adverts in your content, there almost always in a natural break in the video. Just saying it makes a difference...so thanks for the extra effort it takes to make the video flow well. Cheers!

I wish they would make a version of that cream dial watch with a bracelet, date window, and PT5000 movement. Even if it cost $150 or $200 I'd still buy it in a heartbeat
@ofp95963 жыл бұрын
I have type B and I love it. The brushes of the case look very fine, the hands with very good finishes, the impression of the dial very clear and the lumen more than correct. My unit has no problem with the crown. However, the size is 43mm and not the 42 that the manufacturer says. It would be great if they made it in 40mm and with a lug to lug
@attilathehun793 жыл бұрын
They have a 40mm version, I don't know the lug to lug measurement, it doesn't say, and it's with the PT500 movement, 100m water resistant, see through caseback.

One significant difference between cheap fliegers and more expensive ones is the thickness of the bezel. On the original fliegers and dedicated clones, there's basically no bezel at all. All you're seeing from the front is the edge of the case. As a result, the dials are relatively large for the case size. On cheap fliegers, the builder just put a flieger dial in an existing case, so the bezel is big, and the watch doesn't really look right.

Both of those watches are on my list to buy changing them out every other day or switching the strap makes the watches look and feel so deferent, thank you Jodi for showing me this now I have a ton of straps and a ton of different options 👍👍👍

My "Just wow!" for Vario strap. Looks so "tweed jacket compatible". Love it so much! I want one badly. (edited) P.S. I see only "Sorry, there are no products in this collection". All I have to say is #$%^&$$%@%$@%$#%^#.

I own both, the b type flieger and the King Seiko homage... Love them! Amazing value for the money. Note : I don't have the issue with the crown

The dress watch is probably the best value watch on the planet.. what you get for $80 is almost unthinkable and makes you wonder why some watches cost thousand upon thousands of dollars

I’ve had pleasure of owning the type B flieger and no problem with the crown, actually its the plus part of the watch and love that onion crown feel and look too. Have not owned the type A, glade i made right decision 🙂

Hi Jody. I got the escapement time type a with the pt5000 and there was something wrong with the stem too. When i would hand wind the rotor would spin wildly. I messaged the seller and he sent me another, waiting to see how that goes when it arrives

The dress watch looks sharp, but is there room in a well curated collection for both this and the SARB035? Just too much overlap, right?
@larrydalton22053 жыл бұрын
Yes it looks sharp and yes I'll just stick with my SARB 035.
@Bob_Smith193 жыл бұрын
No overlap if you want a watch that you can pick up and go. Not that the SARB is hard to set but if you haven’t worn it for awhile you have to spend the time to set it.

The dress watch most closely resembles some of the King Seiko 56KS models and I'm pretty sure that was the inspiration. The Seiko VH31 movement interestingly enough isn't used on any Seiko watches even though it should be.

Check your box from Ali for the watch stem. I bought the components to assemble a watch (thanks to your video last month) and found the crown and stem included even though I didn’t order them

The GS homage one really blew my mind. Hard to believe such great look can cost so little. Looking forward for the restock.

It’s a King Quartz homage. Grand Seiko and King Seiko were two different sub brands.

Thanks again for reviewing, and being very descriptive, lots of affordable watches for normal folks. I now have 5 Pagani Design and 2 Steeldive watches because of your channel. These are nice, but not so much my cup of tea. (I have a 55mm Flieger and no need for more). I do agree we need a Ali-Express strap and bracelet finds video!

Hi, Jody! Too bad about the Flieger...I have three Type A and a couple of Type B Fliegers, so obviously I'm something of a fan of the type. Liked the other one, mostly because as you say, it's a strap monster and I like to swap them out to change the look a bit. Thanks for a mighty fine video!

Is that escapement time quartz good for my 6.5 inches wrist?

Hands are heat *blued* mate :) Put my ET chrono next to a blue hands watch and my Stowa (blued). Definitely looks more like the latter
@chidaverybestpm3 жыл бұрын
Jodi, I believe the coloured hands on the Escapement Time watches are actually "blued" and not just blue. You may wish to fact check this. Also, the dress watch is actually an homage to a King Seiko watch.
@watchesandcaps25663 жыл бұрын
Do not have that problem with my e.t. type B Flieger. The owner claims the hands on the Flieger and second hand on the other gs homage are actually thermally blued hands not painted.

I jumped on that Escapement Time quartz when you previewed it in your aliexpress sale video Jodi and I'm really glad I did. It looks like it is out of stock or possibly discontinued now.
