The group recorded the song using a singer that wasn’t a band member, singing lyrics that were written by guys that weren’t band members, and the band got zero royalties for publishing the song. #onehitwonders

Everyone had this record - I was 10 - and now at 66 it’s on my basement jukebox - Ed King was a great guitarist- he was a great addition to LS and created the opening lick to Sweet Home Alabama

That was GREAT!! This community needs more storytellers - holding up an album to the camera and going "look what I got" videos are all well and good but they don't do the Music itself any service, so we need people to tell the stories. We also need people who can explain how the music is made - the way you explained the construction of the song, especially the bit about the M7th chords (I'm putting together a video at the moment which claims, "the major 7th chord had no finer friend than Richard Carpenter", Wonderful, necessary stuff. Thank you!

The Strawberry Alarm Clock had some great songs on their album. Tomorrow, Barefoot in Baltimore and others. Great harmonies. I played that album a lot at home. Thanks for remembering one of the iconic psychedelic bands of the 60s. I thought the drummer sang lead on Incense and Peppermint.

I read somewhere that the band's name was inspired by another (Los Altos,CA) band known as the Chocolate Watch Band. The box set known as "Nuggets" contains Incense and Peppermints by the Strawberry Alarm Clock and Let's Talk About Girls by the Chocolate Watch Band". Something for you to check out.

This belongs in the "Who'd-a-thunk-it" file along with "Green Tambourine" and "Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)". Good show! Btw, the man lip-synching "Incense....." In the official video, is that Greg Mumford? Whoever it is looks like a male version of Tatum O'Neal, lol.
@the_guitar_trooper9 ай бұрын
No. Greg never performed with the group. The guy in the 1967 TV clip miming the lead vocal was drummer Randy Seol. And he really did sing lead for it when they played it live. At only 8 years of age, Randy was also briefly a part of a trio called the Goldtones that included Glen Campbell. At 14, he snagged a gig playing with Peter and Gordon. Quite a guy.

I WON'T LAST A DAY WITHOUT YOU. In a furniture store in 1974. I heard a version of that song without a lead guitar in between the verse and refrain lines am I insane? Reason I remember is because it's the first time I heard it and I never heard it without the guitar licks again. Do you know anything about this? Thanks. The comments on this channel are as good as the content. Thank you.
@the_guitar_trooper8 ай бұрын
There is a mix that includes a fuzz guitar fill during the refrain, I have heard it. I believe that you can find it on one of Richard’s later ‘greatest hits’ compilations, but that’s just a guess. Maybe someone else on the channel knows for sure.
@sludge85063 ай бұрын
The stereo separation on retail versions can often be confusing. Sometimes you only hear the left or right side due to the limitations of the store’s sound system, most likely the guy who set it up didn’t know what he was doing.
