I just discovered this rule set and I like it. Your vids help me get a good feel for the way the game flows. As to the aircraft, here is an alternate way to see when they show up, rather than if. Roll 1d6 on the players turn and add the results. When the total is 6 or more the air support arrives. Don't worry about a roll for anti-aircraft since the die rolls take into account the aircraft avoiding anti-air gunnery.

Really liked the small additions like aircraft, commanders to remove shock etc. it does seem to make the game more involved, thanks.

I too, like messing around with and customising OHW rules. But never ventured into aircraft. Do you have your rules for airstrikes anywhere handy on a file...Id really loooove to see these? :-)))

In fairness Stephen I simply added the aircraft on the fly, or “on the wing”. I think OHW means that rather than write a hard and fast rule I simply threw them into the game. As a result I might use aircraft next time with a guaranteed appearance in the third turn, for example. Appreciate your very positive feedback as always.

Ah excellent, yes yes you are of course right, OHW really is a tool kit, and lends itself to all sorts of quick and easy (on the fly ) modifications here and there where and when needed.. even mid game.(another beauty of solo gaming).

I just submitted my request to join your FB group. I really like the bare mechanics of OHW, but I also though some stuff was missing, like rallying. I am glad to see I am not the only one tinkering with the rules.

Hi and yes I think the idea is to add your own “tinkering” but keep the core. It’s about what’s best for all players.

To add a couple more rules you can, for instance, say that at 10+ hits tanks are immobilized, shooting at the tank’s side or rear is at +4, and whenever a unit with a junior or senior leader takes hits, on a roll of natural 6 the leader dies (to make it more dangerous to stick around). See, you really got me inspired! ;-)

Bought the book less than a month ago. Looking forward to having a go with my WW1 Germans vs French. Just wrapping up some terrain builds first. Not sure I'm fully on board with unit size selections yet, so some tips and pointers would be handy. Good games a fast game !!!
