One lap of Nordschleife, 10 different games, 1998-2017

The evolution of the legendary Nordschleife in video games.
For more than 20 years, we have been able to drive around the Nordscleife in games. And I thought, why not look back and see how the track has evolved over the years on our screens?

It is worth noting that the Grand Prix Legends used 1967' version of the track, without safety barriers on the sides of the road.
I do not have a capture card, so unfortunately there are a few games missing that I would like to see here. For the same reason, GT Sport is captured in 30 frames, instead of 60.

Amazing comparison! Incredible how good the Nordschleife looked in Gran Tursimo 4 on the Playstation 2. Then that switch to GT Sport-photo realistic. Wow. Wish we had a current or next gen game with the classic Nürburgring from the 1930s or 1950s.

Yeah it would be cool. Theres a mod on assetto corsa for the classic nurburgring it's pretty cool.

@@fredgoldstein It depends. Best all-rounder is PCARS2. Decent handling, decent simulation, great car list, great graphics, fantastic choice of weather\time_of_day\time_of_year, good usability (setup, settings, menus etc) Best sim - Assetto Corsa. Fantastic handling, fantastic simulation, very good car list, good graphics (great cars, ok track), limited choice of weather & time of day (no rain, no night racing) AND TERRIBLE USABILITY. If you don't play racing games often - best choice will be Forza Motorsport 7. Friendly handling (arcade-simcade), bottomless car list, great graphics, good choice of weather and time of day, great usability. No simple answer, unfortunately. If you want to ask something specific - feel free :) I'll try to answer if I can.

@@fenrirjackson2985 Thanks so much for taking the time, I am just going nuts trying to find a way to have the nurburgring track on my PC and have downloaded something free from steam that doesn't work. From Steam I don't think they have anything if you could point me somewhere to start again I need any game that I can download nurburgring on PC. Thanks a bunch. Fred

@@fredgoldstein Hm... I don't think I understand your problem. As far as I know, there are no free racing games on steam, where you can drive on Nordschleife. From time to time some games get "free weekend", but that's about it. But you can buy half of games from this video on steam, including PCARS2 store.steampowered.com/app/378860 and Assetto Corsa store.steampowered.com/app/244210 IMPORTANT!!! There is NO Nordschleife in standard game, you have to buy Dream Pack 1 DLC: store.steampowered.com/app/347990

Насколько мне известно - да. Была какая-то (сейчас уже не помню название, делал рисёрч когда видео готовил) игра до этого, но там совсем упрощённый визуал. Спрайтовый. Чтобы прям целиком и точно - первая это GP Legends.

Yep, i think so. AC is more realistic, you can feel every bump on the track, cars is much more real in terms of how they react to these legendary corners and different "driving situations". But game can be painfully hard to setup, especially if you using gamepad. Overall AC is not user friendly. PC2 is more friendly to players. And you can choose any time of day and night to race, any of four seasons and any weather you like. Sure, it's not so realistic in terms of handling, but real enough.

There are many games with Nordschleife that are not in this video. Some of them I'd really love to see here (GTR2\Evolution, fFactor, Forza Motorsport 2-4, iRacing) but I didn't have them on hands or couldn't capture them. As far as I'm aware, the Nordschleife track was added to Assoluto Racing in December 2019. And I was making this video in January 2019. So... no chance. But it would be great to make a followup video in the future. And having a mobile game on the list would be good for comparison.
