I have just discovered your channel, and I'm so excited to try my (dubiously artsy wanna-be) hand at spun cotton crafting, thanks to your wonderful presentation. Please don't change a thing, length of film or otherwise. I have subscribed OF COURSE, and am going to love exploring and learning from your other videos. Blessings from Canada😊

I love everything about this video from the secret mouse house to your first spun cotton animal. And I was so humbled and pleasantly surprised to see one of my mice when you shared a few followers spun cotton mice! I find the art of spun cotton making to be very therapeutic. But when I started, I definitely didn’t feel that way! Friend, Rosanna gives the best advice, PRACTICE, PRACTICE and more PRACTICE! My biggest lesson I learned with Rosanna was the glue water ratio that worked for me! If your cotton is sticking to your hands, add water until the cotton no longer sticks to your fingers. It does not take as much glue as you would think to secure the cotton to your figure. I have also found that in the beginning, I was better at creative figures and lil on the larger scale. For instance, my mouse shown by Rosanna was 3-1/4” tall. Thank You Rosanna for sharing your talents with us! You’re a fabulous teacher and your inspiration and encouragement is greatly appreciated! I’m enjoying our spun cotton journey! 🐭🥳👏🏻😍🤩

Awww, thank you, that's so sweet 🥰 I appreciate your comment ❤❤ and he is quite sweet and whimsical, I should maybe take a note from that and take more liberty with form sometimes, it's one of the pitfalls of gaining skill is you start to have more control and that can become boring!

Even the great masters of various art mediums practice, practice, practice to be better. Even when well known and their works were selling, they painted the same scenes over and over and over again. They started paintings, and when unsatisfied, they painted over the canvas and started again. They took a hammer to their sculpture and turned to a different block of marble. They tore up their sheet music and started again. The examples are endless. Part of being an artist/creative is failure, because we are human. Artificial intellignce will not destroy it's own work, because it lacks a heart and soul to satisfy.

I know what you mean about having the materials, but not actually getting started making. I’ve been watching lots of videos on a couple of processes and I’m ready, I think. I think this is just how some people work. You just have to make yourself start one day. Easy to say.
@lauralayton39963 ай бұрын
I would think that the washi tape would be a good choice. It feels thinner and easier to shape. I love your channel, and I want to make some mice for a diorama. The way that you construct them is very doable for most people. Please don't talk about the groundhog in front of him. He already looks like he might be a little depressed, so go easy on him. He kind of reminds me of a couch potato.

also, the reason the glue and cotton works better with the masking tape than the foil is because the masking tape has some texture to it, and it gives the cotton more grip on the surface and the glue also can adhere better to it bc it is a porous material, whereas the foil is not :D

hello! i have a question because i can't find the answer to this anywhere i've looked so far. are these figurines poseable? i was considering using this technique for an art doll but i'd want to be able to move the limbs. if not, would using a more elastic glue or a thinner glue mix work for that? its ok if it doesn't, i would just like to know before i get into it ^^
@Rosannamakes2 ай бұрын
The way i make them, they are only very slightly posable, a very small range of motion in the legs and tail. None in the neck. If you'd like them to pose, there are ways to do that with spun cotton but it will look different than this and you will probably need to leave the limbs longer. One way is to wrap pipe cleaner or wire with cotton, and you'll only use glue wash on the ends to secure the end of the cotton. You will have to wrap very tightly in order for that to hold. Or some people just make a pipe cleaner or wire armature and then a spun cotton head and hands and feet and then you "clothe" the armature with fabric clothes so underneath there won't be spun cotton to inhibit the movement. Hope that makes sense. There are people out there doing posable spun cotton but I'm not sure if they're making tutorials. Okay actually I just checked and Maria makes posable figures and I think she might have a class for that.. here's her Instagram instagram.com/spuncottongirl?igsh=c3Jndzd0cWlqM2Vz

I was wondering if you could use clay as a base instead of foil?
@RosannamakesАй бұрын
I haven't tried it yet but I'm pretty sure it works, I think some other spun cotton artists do that. I would just make something tiny to try it out, like a pumpkin or something and make sure the cotton sticks!
@debbienorton49512 ай бұрын
Yes, she did seem to be asking to be a white mouse. Curious isn’t it? I was wondering what foil could be used, other than the kind used in cooking, as that seems kind of stiff for this application. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials.❤

Would wrapping the wire armature in wool be possible instead of the foil?
@Rosannamakes8 күн бұрын
@debraparry3888 I've never tried it - I think the wool would wrap fine, the issue would be whether you can then sculpt smoother layers on top. I don't know if the glue mix will bind wool the same way it does cotton.. because of the lanolin?
