Before "Victim in Pain" (1984), "Age of Quarrel" (1986) and LONG before H2O's first recordings (1995), the early foundations for New York Hardcore were laid by bands such as Kraut, Adrenalain OD, Even Worse, The Mad, Cause for Alarm and Bad Brains.

My husband still has his ticket stub from Wallys in south Bethlehem pa, 1982 for MINOR THREAT. Its a framed stub and he has been offered $200 for it and he refused. 3 Years ago we took our then 13 year old son to see Bad Religion and we were talking to Brian Baker outside the club and he saw the black "X"s on our sons hands and he said "Are you Straight Edge". My son said "Yes". Brian said , "Its the way to be. Don't let ANYONE tell you different."

H20 has a strong presence in hardcore, but don't say they they laid an early foundation with the Cro-Mags and Agnostic Front. AF was doing it well over 10 years before H20 started. H20 is third generation pop hardcore.

Totally agree with you! H2O I love them to bits, but they are definitely more of a 3rd wave to me. with Agnostic Front, Regan Youth, Antidote in the first wave, then Sick of It All, Leeway, Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today etc in the 2nd wave then 3rd wave comes H2O and CIV maybe Quicksand all to name a few here and there.

I love that vice is trying to delve into hardcore culture and explain it for those who don't know about it but this is hardly even the tip of the iceberg you really have to just experience it

Most hardcore kids wouldn't be hardcore kids if they didn't spend awhile going through the entry level stuff. I wouldn't be where I am today if the Ramones were never recommended to me. Everyone starts somewhere, and Vice/Noisey does a pretty good job of making learning the basics about the culture and introducing a new listener to a wide range of bands easy and fun.

Fuck that guy. I was locked up on a heroin related charge in 2012. The whole time I was inside, I kept singing OLOC to myself in an effort to change my outlook on life. Sure, I stumbled, but heroin hasn't been a part of my life for almost 4 years now. Toby and his PMA are great

h20 are a pop-punk band fronting as HC because they play the same lineups. music wise it's tame as fuck
@mariosargiropoulos1715
@mariosargiropoulos1715 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say Toby is fronting. He came up in the hardcore scene and is cool with all the pioneers of the scene. His sound is more SoCal pop punk but a lot of people prefer that. Including me. I’ll take Bad Religion or Pennywise any day over Gorilla Biscuits or Madball. Having actual melody in your music doesn’t make it tame, IMO.
@localras9125

Nah I just saw em live and that show was far from "tame" they may be more melodic but those riffs rip! Similar to 7 seconds.

H2O are pretty weak and weren't hardcore pioneers. They only stood out in the mid 90s cuz they were signed to Epitaph back when there were very few popular hc bands who didn't play Victory Records metalcore. Fast raw DIY hardcore was ripping shit up back then but didn't get attention from bigger punk labels.

These 50 something year old foggie still believing and doing that silly thing call hardcore, man they need to grow up and move on. Hardcore is dead its been dead since the mid 80s.

If you think this was something that should be "grown out of" you never really understood it and definitely didn't belong in it. It's only dead to those that don't live it and likely never did. I suspect hardcore was only something you were into and not something you felt and lived. It obviously didn't shape you the way it did and does guys like these. The fact that you can't see value in that reaffirms my previous statement, you never understood it.
